A number of waterbirds have odd shaped bills. The bills of the ibis and the curlew are long and downcurved, while that of the avocet is curved upwards. One of the oddest is that of the spoonbill. It’s the shape of the bill that has given the bird its name. This bill is widened at the tip, and is actually more spatula-shaped than spoon-shaped, because its tip is not dished. The birds feed with their sensitive bills open a few centimetres. They sweep them from side to side through shallow water in search of small aquatic creatures such as water beetles and small yabbies. The inside of the “spoon” is equipped with “vibration detectors”.
This special feature enables the birds to feel for their food rather than look for it.

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a pink or purple day at Color my World Daily but I’m skipping it since we have a very awesome theme at Smile on Saturday: sphere on black background.
Don’t you have a feeling lately, that there is someone, some invisible but powerful hand, playing with our planet like if it was a ball ? This picture is the result of another alcohol induced vision… or maybe it was induced by watching the news while drinking too much. We will never know, I guess. I just hope that you will like it.
Mucho, mucho amor for you all !! Have a beautiful day !
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!!

The fruit bearing clusters of palm trees are called drupes. This is a close-up of one cluster of drupes from a Pygmy Date Palm from my yard. (I also have another variety of palm that produces huge drupes of orange, fiberous fruit, each drupe cluster weighing about 20 pounds or 9 kilos.)
The drupes emerge from a protective pod (also pictured) that hardens into wood after opening. The little balls on the stalks are flower buds which will turn into tiny yellow flower clusters before going to seed.

The Green Heron sits a foot or two over the water on a branch and waits for the prey to come by much like a Night Heron. When they see their prey they get ready to spring. A split second later this fellow was darting at the fish below.
Looping n'est plus, elle était tellement gentille, attentive, et affectueuse. Que de ballades ensemble, elle laisse un grand vide. Nous sommes très tristes.
Looping is not anymore

It is a former estate garden featuring annuals, roses and wildflowers and an extensive rockery. It is located on Wilket Creek, one of the tributaries of the Don River West Branch. The estate's title was once held by Alexander Milne, a Scottish weaver who settled here after the War of 1812 and left in 1832. The land and the woolen/saw mills was obtained by Rupert E. Edwards in 1944 and created his country home. Edwards home was left in neglect and was purchased by the Municipality of Metro Toronto in 1955 and became Edwards Gardens in 1956.
