Had a beautifully cold day today, it has been more humid than normal which has created some rather gorgeous conditions!

Skull of a carnivorous Marsupial Mouse I found that had been run over on the back road. The ears helped me identify it at the time.

"Small native carnivorous marsupial, greyish-brown above and paler below. Long pointed head with bulging eyes and four pairs of small sharp incisor teeth. Ears are large, thin and crinkly with a notch in the margin. Tail is the same length as the body or shorter and is sparsely haired. It weighs up 71 grams."

Don't be fooled by this cute face, even if it is covered in sand! The fur seal pups were left alone after their parents went out to sea. Like most youngsters that are left alone, they were a little naughty. We were told to "watch our back" because they could be a little aggressive and would come after us and bite. Even some of the crew have been bitten. They said just to point the end of the walking stick at them and they retreated, which worked. Taken on Salisbury Plain in South Georgia.

Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.

The smell of toast and fresh fruit lured her towards the kitchen. She spotted the lynx preparing sandwiches and grinned. Before he could blink, nine tails brushed against him as she stole one and took a bite.

His ears curled to the side in loops while he raised his brows at her above his glasses in retort. She smiled innocently and leaned over the counter extending the bitten sandwich towards him, "Ahhh!" she exclaimed, trying to hide laughter.

He sighed in the midst of emptying the peanut butter jar on a piece of toast and paused to take a bite. Not like he had any choice in the matter. :p

P.S. The start of something I always wanted to do but was taking my time. My furry series! When I first joined Second Life in 2009, I was a furry cat and I really enjoyed that side of the grid a lot. Of course along the way things changed but years later it feels nice to return to what was once a comfort zone. Thank you Dice Starlight for letting me borrow you for this idea! Such a patient lynx! Also thanks to the beautiful pbj set by Dust Bunny that was so adorable.

There is a saying in the english language that goes - "Once bitten twice shy" - which essentially means that if you do something and it turns out badly then the chances are you will shy away from doing the same thing again a second time. I should have heeded that advice!

So a few weeks ago I posted a street photo of a man in sunglasses which I took on a photowalk where the challenge was to shoot on a camera that cost less than £20. I chose a 60 year old Yashica Minister D camera that I purchased in an auction and while it looked great about half the photos I took with it that day had some kind of light leak issue going on. I sold the camera for £10 on eBay and thought that was the last of my Yashica adventures. Wouldn't you know it only a week or so later a member at my camera club gave me 2 analogue cameras, a Pentax SLR and another Yashica Minister, which I gratefully accepted (you can see where this is going can't you).

I am nothing if not stubborn and therefore a couple of days later I put a roll of film in my second Yashica of the summer and went into London to shoot it. I had high hopes for it as the camera appeared to be working well. Roll finished I sent it off to be developed. Well, the scans from that roll of film came back and the first 20 pictures on the roll were all double exposures. As Homer Simpson so succinctly put it... Doh!

The good news, if there is any, is that the last 15 or so were fine. Very odd but at least I was grateful for that. This was probably the best of the lot (I know, the bar was set pretty low) but what I liked was the punchy colours that this expired Kodak 200 film produced. If there is an analogue 'look' then I think this shot exemplifies it.

The moral of this story - no more Yashica Ministers, no matter how cheap (or free) they are. By the way, I've got one for sale if anyone is interested, at a very good price.

Today is officially known as Alaska Day! Our visit to Alaska a few months ago marked our 10th year visiting Alaska. It's safe to say tat we have been bitten by the "Alaska bug" and absolutely adore it. It's my absolute favorite place to visit and embark upon any of the amazing adventures that Alaska offers.

When I wanted to celebrate Alaska Day, I though about what is iconic for Alaska. What image can be shared leaving the viewer no doubt as to where it is? I chose the stunning image from the park road within Denali National Park. Along the shuttle bus into the interior of the park, there are several places to witness Denali ... I'm talking about the mountain itself ... the highest point in North America. No view is more striking or spectacular than when you take the turn around Stony Overlook and you see this ... Wow! That solitary road meandering its way towards the very distant mountain really puts the size of both the mountain and the park itself into perspective. Only 30% of all visitors actually will see the "high one" like this ... so far we've been quite fortunate in seeing it 10 out of 10 years. I call that being blessed. <3

Happy Alaska Day to all!

Solar Eclipse, 10 June 2021.

It's been a while since we've had a solar eclipse in Ireland and while it was only a partial eclipse, it was worth pulling out the camera and a Lee Filters 'Little Stopper' to capture it.

Nice little graphic of how it progressed here.

Take a bit out of me. The tower of Salisbury cathedral in the fangs of its own cloisters. Wasn't worth a second look until the notion of a square crop came to mind. Like the bold unorthodox framing as counterpoint to the intense decoration of the tower.

This is a painting-with-light shot of the Chinese Ponds (well, one of them!) on the hill above Castle Toward in Argyll, Scotland..

.

I think that I bit off more than I could chew with this project for a number of reasons:.

.

1. It was taken too close to the summer solstace so it didn't get dark enough to begin until about midnight..

2. There was too much wind which made it difficult to construct this image without too much blurring..

3. It was midge season and despite the wind and the midge repellent I still got quite bitten..

.

However it was a dry night (always a bonus!) and I was surrounded by the sound of owls. I also got to watch the bats hunt so all this considered it was a good night :).

.

Unfortunately I twisted my ankle on the way down the hill which made the remaining walk back to my car difficult, but it didn't ruin an enjoyable evening :).

.

The Chinese Ponds were built to supply water to the Castle Toward stately home at the base of the hill and is one of the many architectural gems on the estate..

Cinnamon Bitten (Ixobrychus cinnamomeus) is a common resident in Thailand, Captured at Asia Pacific International University premises, Muaklek, Thailand

While waiting for the male hawker to zip past me for the millionth time without me getting my camera on him (never mind even an out-of-focus shot!), I spotted these midges dancing in a stream of sunlight. Using a shallow dof, from across the pond, I was able to bokehfy them :D
