Taken at the edge of a lake In Exeter. I was photographing the damsel which was eating a fly! It then got taken by the spider after flying into it's web! The damsel still has the meal in it's mouth too!
Had a beautifully cold day today, it has been more humid than normal which has created some rather gorgeous conditions!
Thank you my friends for the views and comments!

Mosquitoes bite you as if they are in some kind of love with you. Tonight I was bitten by the last mosquito of the year...it was determined to make it count too...

Skull of a carnivorous Marsupial Mouse I found that had been run over on the back road. The ears helped me identify it at the time.
"Small native carnivorous marsupial, greyish-brown above and paler below. Long pointed head with bulging eyes and four pairs of small sharp incisor teeth. Ears are large, thin and crinkly with a notch in the margin. Tail is the same length as the body or shorter and is sparsely haired. It weighs up 71 grams."

The adder is the only venomous snake native to Britain.
Adders have the most highly developed venom injecting mechanism of all snakes, but they are not aggressive animals. Adders will only use their venom as a last means of defence, usually if caught or trodden on.
No one has died from adder bite in Britain for over 20 years. With proper treatment, the worst effects are nausea and drowsiness, followed by severe swelling and bruising in the area of the bite. Most people who are bitten were handling the snake.
Like this one, Adders are shy non aggressive snakes and when they see you will turn and disappear into the undergrowth.

“It’s true, I think, as Kenko says in his Idleness,
That all beauty depends upon disappearance,
The bitten edges of things,
the gradual sliding away
Into tissue and memory,
the uncertainty
And dazzling impermanence of days we beg our meanings from,
And their frayed loveliness.”

St Andrew's Cross Spiders are named for their bright web decorations - zig-zag ribbons of bluish-white silk that form a full or partial cross through the centre of the orb web. Females have a silvery carapace and a silver, yellow, red and black banded upper abdomen with two longitudinal yellow stripes below. The spider sits with the legs in pairs. The brown and cream coloured males are smaller than females.
The prey of the St Andrew's Cross Spider includes flies, moths, butterflies, bugs and bees. These are usually secured by silk wrapping into a neat parcel before being bitten - although smaller prey may be bitten first. This spider will be having bee for tea tonight,
There is a saying in the english language that goes - "Once bitten twice shy" - which essentially means that if you do something and it turns out badly then the chances are you will shy away from doing the same thing again a second time. I should have heeded that advice!
So a few weeks ago I posted a street photo of a man in sunglasses which I took on a photowalk where the challenge was to shoot on a camera that cost less than £20. I chose a 60 year old Yashica Minister D camera that I purchased in an auction and while it looked great about half the photos I took with it that day had some kind of light leak issue going on. I sold the camera for £10 on eBay and thought that was the last of my Yashica adventures. Wouldn't you know it only a week or so later a member at my camera club gave me 2 analogue cameras, a Pentax SLR and another Yashica Minister, which I gratefully accepted (you can see where this is going can't you).
I am nothing if not stubborn and therefore a couple of days later I put a roll of film in my second Yashica of the summer and went into London to shoot it. I had high hopes for it as the camera appeared to be working well. Roll finished I sent it off to be developed. Well, the scans from that roll of film came back and the first 20 pictures on the roll were all double exposures. As Homer Simpson so succinctly put it... Doh!
The good news, if there is any, is that the last 15 or so were fine. Very odd but at least I was grateful for that. This was probably the best of the lot (I know, the bar was set pretty low) but what I liked was the punchy colours that this expired Kodak 200 film produced. If there is an analogue 'look' then I think this shot exemplifies it.
The moral of this story - no more Yashica Ministers, no matter how cheap (or free) they are. By the way, I've got one for sale if anyone is interested, at a very good price.

It's been a while since we've had a solar eclipse in Ireland and while it was only a partial eclipse, it was worth pulling out the camera and a Lee Filters 'Little Stopper' to capture it.
Nice little graphic of how it progressed here.
