A Bit Blurry...One Quick Shot And He Took Off...Uber Crop

Comments: HARMLESS (Non-Venomous), though they will readily bite to defend themselves. Racers are one of the snakes most likely to be seen by Floridians. It inhabits both rural and urban habitats and is frequently seen in residential areas during the daytime. Like other racers, it is fast moving and can climb and swim well. When discovered, the racer will usually flee for shelter, relying on its speed and agility to avoid capture. However, when cornered, its only defense is to strike. Its bite is harmless, but its needle-sharp teeth can cause bleeding. When annoyed, it may rapidly vibrate its tail in the leaf litter, producing a buzzing sound.

The Racer does not make a good pet because it never gets over its nervous disposition.

Racers are opportunistic predators whose diet is as varied as their choice of habitat. It feeds on frogs, lizards, snakes, rodents, and birds and their eggs. In Florida, frogs, lizards and small snakes make up the majority of the Racer's diet. Despite its scientific name, Coluber constrictor, the Racer is not a true constrictor and overpowers its prey by simply grabbing it in its jaws and pressing it against the ground until it stops struggling.

Breeding occurs from March through June, and 6-20 eggs are laid from May through August. Newborns are 6-9 inches (15-22 cm) in length.

I still have pieces to glaze and fire. I am making a stack-able totem for the garden. The pieces will be inter-changeable. I have five more pieces in the works plus a head-topper. I will thread them on a dowel.

Monday was a bit of a repeat tour, in part to see the effects of the changed seasons, and I saw a great many things worthy of pictures. As part of the seasonal rounds, I returned to Tompkins Square Park in Alphabet City (by way of St. Marks Street), and rediscovered something that ensured all those other sights would have to wait for another day.

On the northeast corner of the park at Avenue A and 10th Street, an impromptu memorial still stood exactly where it had last time I passed. Someone was evidently updating it, as the deathcount had risen horrifyingly since the last time. It's a modest setup, but that made it all the poignant to me, staring at the humble wooden nightstand with flowers, admonitory sign of black on white with little American flags trying vainly to billow in the meager breeze. People had taken to placing rocks on the white brick labeled only with the stark words "COVID-19." But most soul-searing of all was at its centre, a mirror with text written in a scrawling white hand: "WORLD DEAD 164,938 / NY DEAD 13,240 / FOR ALL THOSE WHO HAVE DIED DURING COVID-19 / U ARE NOT ALONE / WE ALL REFLECT YOUR SPIRITS"

Staring at my reflection in the mirror behind those words was, frankly, devastating. I don't know what to make of the white sculpture atop the mirror, but it has a sense of elevation, transcendence. I needed that. We all do, maybe. (14.75 km)

Bit of a mixture this evening... seem to have a lot of 'archives' from earlier in the year, so bit of a 'Local Patch' selection...

These were dogs that I photographed during Nikki and Jonathan's engagement shoot. I loved them!!!

The little black dog on the right was super afraid of the sound of a camera, so we had to trick her a little bit. :) This was one of the only shots where we had her looking at the camera and not trying to run away.

If you use my images for anything, please link back to my blog, website or flickr stream! And drop me a note as well!! I love seeing my work out there!

I had to wait a bit till the bridge emptied out- I was hoping and praying that nobody would come our way as there was barely enough room for one person to walk across, but they did. I had to hold on tight to the railing to let them pass. The chickened out like somewhat mid way and we had the bridge to ourselves all over again. We are headed to Lahic, a remote village deep in the mountains near Sheki. Of course, it is rather touristy now, but they have tried to retain it's historic appearance and have even maintained the road in an unsealed condition so that one can get a real idea about the remoteness of the territory. And then are other villages even more remote and which are accessible only by bridges like this running across the gorge. Of course we did not go right upto the village as it was quite a rough trek up to it. (Sheki, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017)

Snaffle bits with different types of rings.

The rings on the outer portion of a snaffle bit function to position the mouthpiece and allow attachment of the headstall and reins. Variations in ring diameter and shape influence the location and intensity of rein pressure.

A little bit later for our walk with Bonny this morning as we had a treat in store for her. We took her to our local river (the river Teme) and got her in for a swim. The river flows too fast for her to swim in (we think) and it is, apparently, the fastest flowing river in the UK. Another factoid is that this river, at this point, marks the boundary between the counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. As the river is low I managed to find some stones to hop over so that at this point I probably have a foot in each county. We get Bonny to swim in the pool above me to my right.

Later on I cleared out a couple of flower beds in readiness for some lupins I have grown from seed. I didn't get to plant out the lupins as it was suggested that the lawn should be cut. Guess what I did!

Two bits of keyring, on paper.

(HDR: both the single sheet of paper and that with the keyring on were processed using align_image_stack to generate an HDR image, tonemapped simply using Photoshop; both images blended in PS and then finished in Darktable.)

Yes, Space Gump's mech has buttocks to shoot at. Decided it would be too much for the action shot to try and fit that gag in as well but still wanted to show off these nice cheeks
