And beauty can be more permanent than the flying spark of pleasure, soon to extinguish. Something is beautiful when it is true and good: untruth can never be beautiful, and wickedness can never be beautiful.

A purple flower in the yard at our New Orleans cottage, to wish our friend, Jesse MANY Happy returns of his birthday!
The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 18th of September is “floral fantasy”. This requires a photo of flowers taken outside of their natural environment, artistically used in a bouquet, flower arrangement, still life, corsage or the like. It is also a requirement that it not be a macro shot, so that some context of its surroundings may be considered. Unfortunately, still being in a severe lockdown means that I am even having difficulty getting fresh flowers for my house, so I have delved into my archive this week’s theme, and chosen a photo from this time last year when I received a bouquet of beautiful flowers artfully arranged in a bowl as a birthday gift. I actually took this photo to remember the occasion and the gifts, but also to send to the friends who gave me the card and the flowers as a thank you. As my birthday this year will have taken place two days prior to the posting of this photo, I may have received another bunch of brightly coloured flowers to help celebrate my day! I will see. I do hope that you like my choice for the theme, and that it makes you smile.
What the Crusades could not do, burgeoning papal power did not accomplish, and the threat or promise of hell or heaven would never do, Francis and Clare accomplished with the help of the Holy Spirit. They transformed thousands, and then, over time, millions of lives with their way of life. To live in the spirit of Francis and Clare today is to model Christ in ways that will cause you to be dismissed as a fool, forgotten like the poor, reviled for your optimism, and yet, somehow, remain enormously attractive to the rest of the world who are seeking peace and meaning. Perhaps that is the sort of revolution we need today.

to Monica, www.flickr.com/photos/dancedaoc/3022902235/ one of my bestest friends here on flickr! I know your birthday isn't until Wednesday, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to get on tomorrow and I didn't want you to think I had forgotten. I hope you have a magical day and have lots and lots of yummy cake or whatever your heart desires.
Think of these as your candles on the cake! Blow them out and make your wish my friend.
Wishing you the best birthday ever! Hope your day is a fabulous one, just like you! Love you so very much... ti voglio tanto, tanto bene sempre, cara Mamma =)
A Problem in Design
what if
you like
to draw
big flowers,
but what
if some
sage has
told you
that
there is
nothing
more
beautiful
nothing
more
beautiful
then a
straight
line
?
what should
you draw:
big flowers?
straight lines?
I think
you should
draw
big flowers
big flowers
big flowers
big flowers
big flowers
big flowers
big flowers
big flowers
until
they become
a straight
line

Two days after my Birthday, it's Caren's Birthday :-)
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Caren
Happy Birthday to you
i thought i'd post this one as i might be on the road tomorrow and not find the time to greet two amazing friends who will be celebrating their birthday on the same day - November 11.
this is for one of my best friends, Tony , with whom i have gotten closer over the years in spite of the thousands of miles separating us. Tony, no whiskey for you this time, because i didn't have time to send you some - lol. don't worry, i'll make it up to you before Christmas.
this is also for Jack, whom i haven't met in person but has been more than a wonderful Flickr friend. Jack, i do hope you treat yourself to a 7D on your birthday.
P.S.
i believe you'll need a very sharp knife to split this M&M in half.
For the weekly/monthly challenge - Flat lay still life
29/100: 100 x challenge - Flowers
29/100: 100 Flowers 2020
It's strange, I love doing flat lays but when I have to do one for a challenge it suddenly becomes difficult.
This is a birthday card I made for a very dear friend, we don't see each other often but when we do it's like we saw each other the day before. I got the inspiration for the card from a flat lay I did a couple of weeks ago. So thought I would do another flat lay incorporating the card...it's come full circle. The flowers are from my flower delivery last week. They had to make an appearance for the flower challenges. There are also bits from my craft stash...and I wrote the greeting using my recently learned brush stroke lettering...I keep meaning to practise more.
When we stand in awe, our lips do not demand speech; we know that if we spoke, we would deprave ourselves. In such moments talk is an abomination. All we want is to pause, to be still, that the moment may last. It is like listening to great music; how it reaps the yield from the fertile soil of stillness; we are swept by it without being able to appraise it. The meaning of the things we revere is overwhelming and beyond the grasp of our understanding. We possess no categories for it and would distort it if we tried to appraise it by our standard of values; it essentially surpasses our criteria.

it's my birthday today...
been thinking about the future and setting goals for the year to come
1. find success in the photography world, whether it's through my own website and business, or finding a photography studio to work from
2. find more time to dedicate to my health & well being
3. be kinder and more compassionate, especially to the ones closest to me.
4. keep improving my photoshop skills and learning even more programs
5. continue my education whether its just adult school or possibly even college classes
6. work on my shyness and become the person i know i can be
7.. here's the biggie.. finally become debt free
anyway... for Me Again Monday Group... the theme "in the distance"

off to celebrate with my boys and back later tonight to comment!
A strong straight pillar is growing in my heart, I can almost feel it growing, and around it all the rest resolves; I myself, the world, everything. And the pillar is an earnest (symbol) of my inner security. How terribly important this is for me, being in touch with my inner self! I don’t go on losing my balance or tumbling from one world into the next … Something is being consolidated within me, I seem to be taking root instead of continuously drifting, but it is still no more than the fragile start of a new and more mature phase. You must keep watching your step, little one, but I am well pleased with you all the same, you’re pulling through, truly, you are pulling through … (ET 2002, 85)

My baby turned 9 yrs old today, I can hardly believe it.... This morning for breakfast I surprised him with a dish full a jellybeans instead of his usual bowl of cereal. The look of sheer delight was priceless.

When the helpless one awakens strong at the voice of mercy, it is as if Life his Sister, as if the Blessed Virgin, (his own flesh, his own sister), as if Nature made wise by God’s Art and Incarnation were to stand over him and invite him with unutterable sweetness to be awake and to live. This is what it means to recognize Hagia Sophia.

A birthday greeting for an American hero. Wishing you all the best. Happy Birthday!
(and is there ever a story to go with this shot....risked my life to get this ... well, maybe that's an exaggeration ... but there was tornado warning... and it did get dark, windy and rainy ... and I was stuck at the asylum ... and the road flooded and there were big branches down... and I did have to move about 20 doors (there are more doors piled in that place than there are doorways... I don't get it!) and 10 shutters and 2 windows... oh, and a toilet, to claim this setting.... did I mention that it was 90 degrees? And it took me 5 outings to two different locations to get this somewhat right ... and unfortunately, there were prop casualties. : ( And there were ticks, lots of ticks... and mosquitoes ... And I do still have poison ivy to look forward to from picking flowers on roadsides... and fortunately no one saw me pick the roses on the median in an apartment complex.... But.... I did get to buy a bag of cool little green Army men.... oh wait... they're Marines!! I know... you've heard enough... and you're not impressed.... sigh) Happy Birthday anyway, to the most patriotic American that I have ever met.
