One needs to be cool and comfortable while working.
These are my Birkenstock clogs for the operating room.

I lost my old brick-shaped Nokia and am only just accepting the snazzy camera on the new phone. I liked the pixellated mystery of the old one.

Estragon’s boots
two of them
so similar
as to be considered
a pair
good for nothing
but the daily struggle
which hurts
almost as much
as leaving things be
hopeless together
useless apart
nothing to be done

This poem was inspired by the first line of the Beckett play, Waiting for Godot. Estragon, taking off his boots, says: Nothing to be done.
I commissioned a doll artist to create a soft sculpture Vladimir and Estragon as a gift for my husband who is a devout Beckett fan. Later I decided to sculpt a pair of boots for Gogo (Estragon) from a worn out pair of Birkenstock sandals. Cutting and shaping the leather and soles was a very tricky task. The pair of boots stand less than three inches tall and meet no particular doll scale.
The poem, inspired by these boots, is a metaphor for an old couple: Didi and Gogo, perhaps, or me and my husband.
