Although mainly nocturnal, the little owl can be spotted in the day hunting invertebrates (especially worms), small mammals, reptiles, amphibians and small birds. It is often seen perched a telegraph pole, an old parkland tree, along a hedgerow, or on a rock; from these positions, it quietly scans the ground for prey. When it spots something, it swoops down and catches its victim with either its claws or beak. Little owls breed between March and August, forming monogamous pairs and nesting in hollow trees.

The last wildlife images of the year. A white Ibis, mature and immature. A little mid-day stroll through Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge. Not the best tie of day to photograph a white bird. As beautiful as the place is, I was very disappointed by the amount of trash littered throughout the refuge.

Sattal is at 1250-1300m height ( KMVN sign board suggests 1219 m), located in Kumaun Region of Nainital district of Uttarakhand, just 80 mins drive from Kathgodam, connected via Shatabdi trains from the National capital, Delhi.
As the name suggests, it has seven lakes , namely,
1. Panna Tal or Garud Tal
2. Naldamyanti Tal
3. Hanuman Tal
4. Sita Tal
5. Ram Tal
6. Laxman Tal
7. Sukha Tal or Bharat Tal
Also this place is not just about birding, it has other activities like camping, boating, fishing, rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking.
So far as birding is concerned, it has three different areas to explore - studio, hide and trail.
Through my various posts, i will try to explain all the three aspects of birding. I will post the butterflies and mosses as well which I clicked during the hike within forest.
Set amongst the dense forests of oak and pine trees, Sattal is among the very few of the unspoiled biodiversity in northern India.
Sattal is unique for having 500 species of resident and migratory birds, 20 species of mammals, over 525 species of butterflies and over 11,000 species of moths, beetles, bugs and other insects.
There are some small hotels and resorts catering to tourists looking mainly for birding and enjoying the nature walk.

El alcaudón es una de las aves carnívoras más pequeñas. Fijaos en su tamaño, comparado con las hojas del olivo en el que se posa. Es un voraz depredador que se dedica a empalar a sus presas en plantas espinosas, antes de comérselas, y tener así lista una despensa. Insectos, lagartijas, topillos y ratones de campo, son sus principales víctimas.
El capsigrany és una dels ocells carnívors més xicotets. Fixeu-vos en la seua grandària, comparat amb les fulles de l'olivera en el qual es posa. És un voraç depredador que es dedica a empalar a les seues preses en plantes espinoses, abans de menjar-se-les, i tindre així llesta un rebost. Insectes, sargantanes, talps i ratolins de camp, són les seues principals víctimes.
The shrike is one of the smallest carnivorous birds. Note its size compared to the leaves of the olive tree on which it perches. It is a voracious predator, impaling its prey on thorny plants before eating them, so that it has a larder ready. Insects, lizards, voles and voles are its main victims.
