The red-headed bullfinch (Pyrrhula erythrocephala) is a species of finch in the family Fringillidae, found all across the Himalayas and adjacent highlands. It is found in Bhutan, northern India, Nepal and adjacent southern Tibet. Its natural habitat is temperate forests.

The river lapwing is 29–32 cm long. It has a black crest, crown, face and central throat and grey-white neck sides and nape. It has a grey-brown breast band and white underparts with a black belly patch. The back is brown, the rump is white and the tail is black. This is a striking species in flight, with black primaries, white under wings and upper wing secondaries, and brown upper wing coverts.

The spurs on the wings is remarkable and hidden normally but visible in flight.

I took this photo at Mildura Sth Aust., it was a magical day (as you can see by the sky) the Sun was shining brightly above these birds and it gave them a glow effect....

 

I thought this was an appropriate photo for my poem below...although it was actually written (in part) about our 'Indian ring neck' bird, that flew to freedom.......the dog knocked the cage over while the bird was outside enjoying some Sun.

 

I love watching birds in flight and as much as I love birds for pets...I don't like to see them in cages...

precariously, amazingly balanced on the branch .. no nest

 

for me, its such a symbol of Hope that this egg has made it all these weeks ... especially in these precarious, suffering times on our Mother Earth..

 

the devoted parents are ever-so-carefully trading places as they take turns warming it ;)

they do this every morning, usually in the hour before dawn .. now, it is the only time they are all 3 together ~ as while one parent takes a turn for 24-hours, the other is at sea feeding through the day & night

tonight as a big storm just came in ~ with pounding rain and lightning .. ai-yi-yi ..

feel compelled to post this image where You can see the spirit birds' precious egg in the so-delicate hold-your-breath moment when they are changing places to warm it *

 

you can see how precarious the egg is .. as fairy terns do not make nests

and the thin branch sways with even a breeze... way up about 25 feet high in the tree

 

praying for them so much!

 

and hoping You will send out good protecting energies for them too ~~~

 

(thankful that there are heartlights all around them in this image.. even on his shoulder ;)

due to the timing, turns out that the day i first saw them up in the octopus tree (in picture below :)

must indeed be the day they laid their egg!

 

it was march 3rd ~~ and since fairy terns' gestation time is 33-41 days, their chick should hatch any day from now till next wednesday

if they can keep the egg safe through this storm.

 

they are so devoted ... am in awe of them *

hope to be able to return to Your streams as soon as i finish something i need to do for my mother.. which, because of its deadline, i've been working on day & night for weeks
