Birdwatching on Machias Seal Island.
Razorbill (Alca torda) is a colonial seabird that comes to land only to breed. This agile bird chooses one partner for life; females lay one egg per year. Razorbills nest along coastal cliffs in enclosed or slightly exposed crevices. [Wikipedia]
The image is taken on Machias Seal island and correctly geotagged. Flickr's map is confused. This is not Cutler, even though the trip did start there. Even saying this is United States is questionable. Machias Seal is disputed between the US and Canada. The island is home to the largest colony of puffins in the North-East, and also large colonies of razorbills and arctic terns. It is a great place for birdwatching. Note that there are only two boats that are allowed to land on the island (one from the US and one from Canada), so getting there requires a lot of planning ahead. I will admit that I did not plan ahead myself but joined a photo tour by John Slonina, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Taken at the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve, where is very close to the town centre. A great place to hang around when you want some wildlife experience but don't have a chance to go anywhere too far!
I believe this is a juvenile. I love these birds as they are fun to watch, not terribly shy, and sound just like a cat!
The bird chooses the tree on which he wants to rest, but the tree can not choose the bird.

And of course the birds.
The highlight of the day - never photographed him on this perch with a fish, sadly. Nonethless, my first try at birds from a hide, so a success as far as I am concerned
Colours not the cirrect blue - seems to be down to the light at the time
