Once upon a time, my grandmother and my grandfather, down at the waterline in Hamburg. These binoculars (Emil Busch, distributed by Georg Hechelmann Nachf., Hamburg) are a hundred years old and belonged to Captain John Henning, my grandfather. No coasters, tugs and freighters anymore. The binoculars rest in my study and, from time to time, they have a look at a garden in an English village.

The Binoculars Building
The "Binoculars Building" is on Main St. in Venice, CA & it is the Venice Campus (as they call it) of Google. This includes the two adjoining parts of the building on the right and left and the whole thing employs about 500 employees. The architect was Frank Gehry & the "Giant Binoculars" were designed by artists: Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen. It was opened as Google in 2011. You can walk or drive between the binocular lenses to enter the building.
