Hier an dieser Stelle soll ein Moor entstehen. Das Wasser ist Grundwasser und wurde extra dafür angestaut. Viele neue Pflanzen und Tiere bekommen einen neuen Lebensraum. Moor bindet Kohlenstoff. Obwohl Moore weltweit lediglich drei Prozent der globalen Landfläche einnehmen, binden sie ein Drittel des terrestrischen Kohlenstoffes – doppelt so viel wie alle Wälder dieser Erde zusammen. In einem Hektar Moor mit einer 15 Zentimeter dicken Torfschicht findet sich in etwa so viel Kohlenstoff wie in einem hundertjährigen Wald auf gleicher Fläche.

Here at this point a moor is to be created. The water is groundwater and was specially dammed for it. Many new plants and animals get a new habitat. Moor binds carbon. Although peatlands take up only three percent of the global land area, they bind a third of the terrestrial carbon - twice as much as all forests on earth put together. In one hectare of bog with a 15 centimeter thick layer of peat there is about as much carbon as in a hundred-year-old forest on the same area.

Die Falter erreichen eine Flügelspannweite von 32 bis 45 Millimetern, die Weibchen sind häufig etwas größer als die Männchen. Sie besitzen braune bis dunkelbraune Flügel mit kleinen hell gelblich gerandeten, schwarzen und weiß gekernten Augenflecken. Die Flecken zeichnen sich bei den Weibchen deutlicher ab als bei den Männchen. Am Vorderflügel befindet sich nahe der Spitze ein solcher Fleck, der von mehreren, bindenartig angeordneten weißen Flecken flankiert wird. Auf den Hinterflügeln sitzen drei bis vier Augenflecken nebeneinander. Der Außenrand aller Flügel ist dünn, unterbrochen weiß gefärbt. Die Unterseite der Vorderflügel ist braun mit zahlreichen weißen Flecken und dem gleichen Augenfleck wie auf der Oberseite. Auf der Unterseite der Hinterflügel sind anstelle der Augenflecken dunkelbraune, stark verwaschene und hell gekernte Flecken erkennbar. Die Grundfärbung der Hinterflügelunterseiten ist ockerfarben und leicht braun marmoriert, am Außenrand ist ein violetter Schimmer gezeichnet. Auf den Hinterflügeln befinden sich auch zwei dünne, dunkelbraune, gewellte Binden.

Die Raupen werden etwa 27 Millimeter groß. Ihr Körper ist gelblichgrün und hat einen weißgerandeten, dunkelgrünen Rückenstreifen. An den Seiten haben sie helle und dunkle Linien. Die Schwanzgabel ist weißlich, der Kopf bläulichgrün.i

The moths reach a wingspan of 32 to 45 millimeters, the females are often slightly larger than the males. They have brown to dark brown wings with small eyespots with light yellow edges, black and white cores. The spots are more prominent in females than in males. There is one such spot near the tip of the forewing, which is flanked by several white spots arranged like bands. There are three to four eyespots next to each other on the hindwings. The outer edge of all wings is thin, intermittently colored white. The undersides of the forewings are brown with numerous white spots and the same eyespot as the upperside. On the underside of the hind wings, instead of the eyespots, dark brown, very faded spots with light cores can be seen. The basic coloring of the undersides of the hind wings is ocher and slightly mottled brown, with a violet shimmer on the outer edge. There are also two thin, dark brown, wavy bands on the hind wings.

The caterpillars are about 27 millimeters in size. Its body is yellowish green and has a white-edged, dark green dorsal stripe. On the sides they have light and dark lines. The tail fork is whitish, the head bluish green.

After a few nights of good frost we could skate on February 11, 2021 in Waterland. In Broek in Waterland, Zuiderwoude and at the Gouwsea. Waterland in the winter is a real skater’s paradise. As temperatures plunge across Europe, many are cursing the cold. But not in the Netherlands. Many are hoping for further frigid conditions. Today I skate in Zuiderwoude and from Uitdam to Marken and back, such a beautiful sea of ice to enjoy. An infinitely beautiful sight on this icy sea in 2021. It was a pleasure. The meadows here are white, the Gouwzee completely frozen and the breath comes out of my mouth in small gray puffs. Put your hands behind your back. Breathe calmly. I enjoy the sound of the irons over the ice and the beautiful view of the snowy landscape . The ice surface is great here. I stop for a moment to take a photo. Many skaters enjoy the beautiful ice until sunset. It provides a beautiful picture.

Thus the chance for our Dutch to be wild adventurers on their own land comes only every few years. We glide across solidified, frosted lakes with fish frozen into the ice. As temperatures plunge across Europe, many are cursing the cold. But not in the Netherlands. Many are hoping for further frigid conditions. Today my daughter Samantha and friend Casper are joying me skating. A historical moment since crossing the Gouwsea by skates is such a rare occurrence. Today we skate 12km from Uitdam, de Nes to Marken and back, such a beautiful sea of ice to enjoy. An infinitely beautiful sight on this icy sea in 2021. It was a pleasure. The meadows here are white, the Gouwzee completely frozen and the breath comes out of my mouth in small gray puffs. Put your hands behind your back. Breathe calmly. I enjoy the sound of the irons over the ice and the beautiful view of the snowy landscape . The ice surface is great here. Besides ice skating Dutch also love Ice yachting. This is the sport of sailing and racing iceboats and is very popular in the Netherlands. Ice boats are racing at a speed of 100 km an hour over the ice of the Gouwsea. The centre of ice yachting is in Monnickendam.

Thus the chance for our Dutch to be wild adventurers on their own land comes only every few years. We glide across solidified, frosted lakes with fish frozen into the ice. The Gouwsea in the winter are a real skater’s paradise. In Monnickendam the ice is only suitable for ice yachting. From here the ice yachtings are crossing the Gouwzee to Marken. We visit Monnickendam. From Monnickendam to Marken island is about 4km of disctance. It is not often that the Gouwsea is completely frozen.

De Gouwzee is een paradijs voor schaatsers uit het westen van Nederland, omdat het meestal het eerste grootschalige gebied is waar men goed kan schaatsen op natuurijs. Maar het blijft een historische gebeurtenis. Vele schaatsenrijders zoeken vandaag de bevroren oppervlakte van de Gouwzee op voor een schaatsrit langs de dijk van Uitdam, De Nes naar Marken. Een mooie rit van zo'n 12km. Een oneindig mooi gezicht op deze ijszee anno 2021. Het was genieten. De weilanden zijn hier wit, de Gouwzee totaal bevroren en de adem komt in kleine grijze pufjes uit mijn mond. Handen op de rug. Rustig ademen. Ik geniet van het geluid van de ijzers over het ijs en het prachtige uitzicht over de besneeuwde landschap. Het ijs is geweldig hier. De ijszeilers hebben hun plek in Monnickendam. Hier is het ijs te slecht om te schaatsen, maar voor de ijszeilers geen probleem. Vanaf hier steken ze de Gouwzee over naar Marken. Een oneindig mooi gezicht op deze ijszee anno 2021. Het was genieten. Jong en oud staan op het ijs, zelfs koek en zopie is present bij de zeilclub van Monnickendam. Met spectaculaire snelheden van wel 80 tot 100 kilometer per uur razen de ijszeilers over bevroren meren en plassen: ijszeilers hebben deze dagen de tijd van hun leven. Vanaf Monnickendam naar Marken is ongeveer een afstand van 4 km. Het komt niet vaak voor dat de Gouwzee helemaal bevroren is.

The long awaited cold frost has finally begun, On 2th of March 2018 we could skate. This time we enjoyed the natural ice at the National Park Weerribben-Wieden. The ice near the Weerribben-Wieden is just perfect for skating. Approximately 8 cm thick. The ice is hard and smooth and the wind of the last few days did blow the snow away. It's beautiful natural ice in the pretty surroundings of the National Park Weerribben-Wieden. A swamp, with vast frozen lakes, grasslands and an unprecedented wild bird wealth. Our tour was from Kalenberg and back to our starting point at Ossenzijl. In spite of the cold wind it was wonderful to skate on this sunny day. With its many waterways and ditches, the nature reserve is just like a fairytale. We are glad we went to the Weerribben-Wieden, it was fantastic.

Today 2th of March 2018 we got the opportunity to go ice skating on real ice instead of going to an ice rink. Inspite of the extreme wind chill warning and Real-Feel temperatures expected to around -12C, we decided to go skating at the National Park Weerribben-Wieden. These waterways in the winter are a real skater’s paradise.

Na een paar nachten matige vorst konden we op 2 maart 2018 schaatsen op de waterwegen van de Weerribben. Op een sloot in Ossenzijl, aan de rand van de Weerribben, ligt 8 centimeter ijs. Net genoeg voor schaatsliefhebbers om de ijzers onder te binden ondanks waarschuwingen dat het ijs nog niet overal betrouwbaar is. Er kan heerlijk kilometers geschaats worden tussen de gemaaide rietlanden. Nationaal Park Weerribben-Wieden is het grootste laagveenmoeras van West-Europa. Het ijs is redelijk goed en glad en door de wind van de afgelopen dagen ligt er geen sneeuw meer op. Het is genieten op het natuurijs in de prachtige omgeving. Een moerasbos, met uitgestrekte bevroren plassen, woeste graslanden en een ongekende vogelrijkdom. Onze rondtocht ging van Ossenzijl tot Kalenberg. We zijn blij dat wij geweest waren, het was fantastisch. Met zijn vele vaartjes, trekgaten en sloten is het natuurgebied in deze tijd net een sprookje. Ook staan er verscheidene koek-en-zopie kraampjes aan de routes die het heel gezellig maken.

It will be k-k-cold this weekend. The temperature can drop to -8 degrees and that means of course only one thing: skating! After a few nights of good frost we could skate on March 3, 2018 at the Loosdrechtse Plassen. Every effort was made to ensure that we could skate. Plassenschap Loosdrecht has issued a sailing ban for the Loosdrechtse Plassen. After an extra night of frost, the ice is perfect. Beautiful black smooth ice without weak spots. Finally perfect ice to tie up the irons for skating enthusiasts. There can be wonderful kilometers of skating between the peat area and vast frozen lakes. You experience nature in places where you normally can not come. The northwestern part of the Loenderveense Plas is also referred to as Terra Nova. In this part of the Loenderveense Plas, experiments have been carried out in recent years to improve water quality by removing the bream fish. This fish accumulates the sludge layer that is formed at the bottom of the ponds by over-fertilization. Only a few plants and animals can live in this muddy water. Thus the chance for our Dutch to be wild adventurers on their own land comes only every few years. We glide across solidified, frosted lakes with fish frozen into the ice. The Loosdrechtseplassen in the winter are a real skater’s paradise. The skaters enjoying the wide and smooth ice surface but also Ice yachting. This sport of sailing and racing iceboats is very popular in the Netherlands.

Na een paar nachten goede vorst konden we op 3 maart 2018 schaatsen op de Loosdrechtseplassen. Er werd alles aan gedaan om te zorgen dat we konden schaatsen. Plassenschap Loosdrecht heeft een vaarverbod afgegeven voor de Loosdrechtse Plassen. Na een extra nacht van vorst ligt het ijs er perfect bij. Prachtig zwart glad ijs en nergens wakken. Eindelijk weer heerlijk ijs om voor schaatsliefhebbers de ijzers onder te binden. Er kan heerlijk kilometers geschaats worden tussen het veengebied. Je beleeft de natuur op plekken waar je normaal niet kan komen.

De Loosdrechtseplassen zijn afgegraven veengebieden, gelegen in het Gooi. Het noordwestelijke deel van de Loenderveense Plas wordt ook wel aangeduid als Terra Nova. Terra Nova is een aan de Vecht gelegen landgoed en natuurgebied met veenplassen. In dit deel van de Loenderveense Plas is de afgelopen jaren geëxperimenteerd met het verbeteren van de waterkwaliteit door het wegvangen van brasem. Deze vis woelt de sliblaag op die op de bodem van de plassen is ontstaan door overbemesting. In dit troebele water kunnen slechts weinig planten en dieren leven waardoor de soortenrijkdom van de plassen sterk is teruggelopen. Hoewel nu al aansprekende resultaten te zien zijn van het wegvangen van de brasem – het hele meer is omgeklapt van troebel naar helder water wat ook weer betekend dat het water eerder bevriesd dan andere plassen. Het veengebied is een paradijs voor schaatsers uit het westen van Nederland, omdat het meestal het eerste grootschalige gebied is waar men goed kan schaatsen op natuurijs. De schaatsers genieten van de ruimte en mooie schaatsijs van de Loosdrechtseplassen. Ook zijn er weer ijszeilers te zien. Met spectaculaire snelheden van wel 80 tot 100 kilometer per uur razen ze over bevroren meren en plassen.

1999 war das Auskehr-Jahr des Jahrtausends.

Eine aufwendige Aktion "nebenbei" war, jeden Tag einen passenden kleinen Besen zu binden, also von Winter-Besen, Frühlingsblüten-Besen, Sommer- und Herbstblätter-Besen, bis wieder Winter-Besen das Jahr beendeten.

In a pitch-black hall of mirrors (ISO 25600), artist Julian Charrière presents the

Panchronic Garden -

specially developed for the museum, a seemingly endless greenhouse full of plants, living ferns that glow jet black when bathed in infrared light. This installation evokes the history of coal mining in North Rhine-Westphalia and the huge primeval forests of the Carboniferous that grew there 300 million years ago.

The basic material of coal is mainly of plant origin.

Typical coal formation takes its beginning in extensive swamp forests of lowlands. The trees and ferns bind carbon dioxide, CO2 from the air by means of photosynthesis and convert it into the carbohydrate cellulose and other organic compounds.

After individual trees die, they sink into the swamp and are thus removed from the normal aerobic decomposition process - peat is initially formed.

Coal is formed from the peat when subsidence occurs over geological periods of time, i.e. many tens of millions of years, and overburden.

In this process, with increasing depth of subsidence, both the ambient pressure and the ambient temperature rise to well above 1000°. This causes the so-called incarburization of the peaty sediments.

Initially, lignite is formed. As the depth of injection increases, the coalification process intensifies. Lignite becomes hard coal and finally anthracite. For this reason, the quality of coal is often better the deeper it lies in the earth and the older it is.

Similar processes occur in the formation of oil and gas. The artist wants to make clear to us the time span of our waste and the corresponding climate and earth damage in proportion to the formation time of the fossil energy sources ...

Panchronischen Garten

vor – ein scheinbar endloses Gewächshaus voller Pflanzen, lebendige Farne, die in Infrarotlicht getaucht, tiefschwarz leuchten. Diese Installation erinnert an die Geschichte des Kohleabbaus in Nordrhein-Westfalen und an die

riesigen Urwälder des Karbons, die dort vor 300 Millionen Jahren wuchsen.

Werk, welche unvorstellbar langen Zeiträume die Erdge-

schichte im Vergleich zu menschlichen Massstäben

kennzeichnen.

Sein Ausstellungstitel - Controlled Burn ...

Das Ausgangsmaterial von Kohle ist hauptsächlich pflanzlichen Ursprungs.

Typische Kohlebildung nimmt ihren Anfang in ausgedehnten Sumpfwäldern von Tiefebenen. Die Bäume und Farne binden mittels Photosynthese Kohlendioxid, CO2 aus der Luft und wandeln es in das Kohlenhydrat Zellulose und andere organische Verbindungen um.

Nach dem Absterben einzelner Bäume versinken diese im Sumpf und werden so dem normalen aeroben Zersetzungsprozess entzogen – es entsteht zunächst Torf.

Aus dem Torf entsteht Kohle, wenn es zu Absenkung über geologische Zeiträume hinweg, also viele dutzend Millionen Jahre kommt und zu Überdeckungen.

Dabei steigen mit zunehmender Versenkungstiefe sowohl der Umgebungsdruck als auch die Umgebungstemperatur bis weit über 1000°. Dies verursacht die sogenannte Inkohlung der torfigen Sedimente.

Dabei entsteht zunächst Braunkohle. Mit zunehmender Versenkung intensiviert sich die Inkohlung. Aus Braunkohle wird Steinkohle und schließlich Anthrazit. Deshalb ist die Qualität von Kohle oft umso besser, je tiefer sie in der Erde liegt und je älter sie ist.

Ähnliche Prozesse laufen bei der Entstehung von Öl und Gas ab. Der Künstler möchte uns die Zeitspanne unserer Verschwendung und der entsprechenden Klima- und Erdschädigung in der Proportion zur Entstehungszeit der fossilen Energieträger verdeutlichen ...

Den Admiral erkennt man an seinen roten Binden auf den Vorder- und Hinterflügeln. Er ist ein „Wandervogel“ unter den Schmetterlingen, denn er fliegt jedes Jahr im Frühling über die Alpen zu uns nach Deutschland. Er ist häufig in Gärten, Wiesen und an Waldrändern anzutreffen.

After a few nights of good frost we could skate on February 12, 2021 at the Gouwsea. Waterland in the winter is a real skater’s paradise. As temperatures plunge across Europe, many are cursing the cold. But not in the Netherlands. Many are hoping for further frigid conditions. Today my daughter Samantha and friend Casper are joying me skating. A historical moment since crossing the Gouwsea by skates is such a rare occurrence. Today we skate 12km from Uitdam, de Nes to Marken and back, such a beautiful sea of ice to enjoy. An infinitely beautiful sight on this icy sea in 2021. It was a pleasure. The meadows here are white, the Gouwzee completely frozen and the breath comes out of my mouth in small gray puffs. Put your hands behind your back. Breathe calmly. I enjoy the sound of the irons over the ice and the beautiful view of the snowy landscape . The ice surface is great here. Besides ice skating Dutch also love Ice yachting. This is the sport of sailing and racing iceboats and is very popular in the Netherlands. Ice boats are racing at a speed of 100 km an hour over the ice of the Gouwsea. The centre of ice yachting is in Monnickendam.

Sailing with a boat over an ice plain, or ice sailing, is a Dutch invention from around 1600. The ice barge turned out to be attractive not only for recreational use but also as a means of transport. Nowadays ice sailing is mainly practiced by people with a passion for speed, cold and wind. Monnickendam, located on the Gouwsea, is considered the Dutch center. In Monnickendam the ice is only suitable for ice yachting. From here the ice yachtings are crossing the Gouwzee to Marken. We visit Monnickendam. From Monnickendam to Marken island is about 4km of disctance. It is not often that the Gouwsea is completely frozen. It is a nice gathering of ice sailors here in Monnickendam on the coldest days of 2021.

Maar het blijft een historische gebeurtenis. Vele schaatsenrijders zoeken vandaag de bevroren oppervlakte van de Gouwzee op voor een schaatsrit langs de dijk van Uitdam, De Nes naar Marken. Een mooie rit van zo'n 12km. Een oneindig mooi gezicht op deze ijszee anno 2021. Het was genieten. De weilanden zijn hier wit, de Gouwzee totaal bevroren en de adem komt in kleine grijze pufjes uit mijn mond. Handen op de rug. Rustig ademen. Ik geniet van het geluid van de ijzers over het ijs en het prachtige uitzicht over de besneeuwde landschap. Het ijs is geweldig hier. De ijszeilers hebben hun plek in Monnickendam. Hier is het ijs te slecht om te schaatsen, maar voor de ijszeilers geen probleem. Vanaf hier steken ze de Gouwzee over naar Marken. Een oneindig mooi gezicht op deze ijszee anno 2021. Het was genieten. Jong en oud staan op het ijs, zelfs koek en zopie is present bij de zeilclub van Monnickendam. Met spectaculaire snelheden van wel 80 tot 100 kilometer per uur razen de ijszeilers over bevroren meren en plassen: ijszeilers hebben deze dagen de tijd van hun leven. Vanaf Monnickendam naar Marken is ongeveer een afstand van 4 km. Het komt niet vaak voor dat de Gouwzee helemaal bevroren is. Het is een leuke bijeenkomst van ijszeilers hier in Monnickendam op de koudste dagen van 2021.
