"Steinway Tower, aka, 111 West 57th St. NYC - A newest billionaire condo.
111 West 57th Street, also known as Steinway Tower, is a supertall residential skyscraper in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. Developed by JDS Development Group and Property Markets Group, it is situated along Billionaires' Row on the north side of 57th Street near Sixth Avenue. The main portion of the skyscraper is an 84-story, 1,428-foot (435-meter) tower designed by SHoP Architects and erected in the 2010s. Preserved at the skyscraper's base is the 16-story Steinway Building (also Steinway Hall), a former Steinway & Sons store designed in the 1920s by Warren and Wetmore, which originally carried the address 111 West 57th Street.
The top of the tower includes an 800-short-ton (710-long-ton; 730 t) tuned mass damper to provide stability against high winds or earthquakes".

Well, these building may not be the first to catch the eye along Billionaire Row just south of Central Park but I couldn't resist the composition. I thought it interesting to find window A/C units and an old school water tank in real estate that runs way into the millions if not billions. A lot was being prepared for another skyscraper.
Technical Note: The perspective of this image drove me crazy, I couldn't figure out why the bottom of the center-right plane of the building looked a bit off (pulled in) even though the vertical lines are pretty straight. I thought it might have something to do with straightening the perspective or perhaps some lens distortion going on. What I concluded after plenty of study is it's a bit of an optical illusion with the four rows of lower windows having a different horizontal spacing than the top four rows! The result is that they tend to "pull" the image to the right a bit, IMO. Anyway, it was fun trying to figure this out and I was relieved that I didn't have to blame my 24-70. I shot this at 55mm which is a focal length I don't use too often for buildings. That being said, I'll have to run a few field tests next time I'm around tall buildings to confirm my hypothesis.

Blower Bentley number 4 owned by billionaire Ralph Lauren, and an example of a philosophy that looked good on paper......take a proven 4 1/2 liter four cylinder (winning Le Mans in 1928) engine putting out 110 hp and strap on a supercharger and voila! 240 hp. This was done over WO Bentley's strong objections, who felt that messing with the finished engine in that way would add problems more than speed. He felt if you needed more HP, you added cylinders, thus the LeMans winning Bentley in '29 was a speed 6, and the winner in 1930 was a straight 8.......but, in the age of focus on long distance racing, testing the reliability of components, the more glamorous blower Bentleys NEVER won a race......though they remain far more desirable and expensive.

In an ever increasing drive to provide housing for the ultra wealthy, developers in New York City on narrower plots of land are building very tall but narrower luxury condos. Some members of the local press have dubbed these structures "Billionaire needles." By the way this building on E22nd Street you can get a studio for only four million and the top apartment is a four bedroom three bath that goes for the modet price of fourteen million dollars. To add insult to injury many of these luxury condos are brought up by drug cartels, corrupt foreign oligarchs and other unsavory types for the purpose of money laundering or hiding assets. Meanwhile there are many people paying $1400 a month to live in a chopped (Usually a two or three bedroom apartment that has been divided into two smaller apartments for higher profit.) one bedroom apartment in bad parts of the Bronx. Oh yes want a similar apartment in a safer predominantly white neighborhood in the outer boroughs better be ready to pay another grand. Want a similar apartment in Manhattan better be ready to another one to two grand more over the outer borough price. New York City has gone out of it's way drive the middle class out of the city and decades of corrupt politicians capitulating to greedy realtors has left a disappearing middle class that's never coming back and numerous and ever growing vacant storefronts scattered throughout the city.

Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko's famed most expensive submarine-luxury yacht in the world named "A" paid a visit to Iceland and it kept following us around Iceland, which is ever so funny. First time we cought a glimpse of it when arriving at Akureyri in the North, where these images are taken, but then his fun dinghy showed up again in the waters in front of Hellissandur, Snaefellsnes peninsula in West Iceland. All the time we saw a helicopter landing and departing, boats leaving the yacht and we believe having seen a mini submarine coming out of the side of the yacht. Hollidays for billionaires even ... I think we had just as much joy exploring Iceland in our little mobile home :p :D

I want to spend whole nights drinking tea and

Watching a Kaurismäki film with a favorite feline on my lap or Reading a Bae Suah novel in the bathtub.
I can amuse myself.
Make my own fun.
I don't need the "help" of egomaniac politicians to make it interesting.
So, I wish they would all just leave us artists alone.
