I went to London this weekend for the Bike Shed MC 2019 show at Tobacco Docks. I seem to develop obsessions that run deep very quickly (photography being one) ad most recently my obsession has been motorbikes (so I bought a cruiser)!

The Bike Shed was a cool place and I met up with my good friend, Arnab G (fellow 100 Stranger photographer) and we hung out drank beer, ate loads of food and made a few portraits.

For this image, I wanted to experiment with off camera flash. We setup a Good AD200 with a grinding a gridded reflector and hand held it to camera right.

I loved Alex's style so asked him to be in the picture. Weirdly I realised later I had taken a candid of him earlier so it was no surprise to me when I was looking for a portrait he stood out! He has the cafe racer, custom bike vibe channeled in a hipster way! It turned out that Alex was from Munich and flew over to London for the show.

In addition to shooting with off camera lighting, I added to my learning curve with this shot by making it my first image edited in Capture One. I have wanted to try this for a while and have loved seeing Arnab becoming proficient in it's use so I bought it today and used it to edit this as my first photo.

Bike Shed, London, 2016

Having bought my first motorbike in the last few weeks I have basically been falling in love with the whole scene and community. I've spent hours and hours watching You Tube channels about bikes, visiting motorcycle stores and chatting to bikers. It's such a brilliant community, even from the lessons I was taking since October last year. It's so not Sons of Anarchy and actually is a really great crowd of people.

I met Luanne at the bar when I was in London at the Bike Shed MC custom bike event and immediately asked her if I could take her portrait for the project. She was with two other girls at the bar but when approached about making a portrait she just tuned round and walked out totally engaged with the idea which was super! We headed out to a spot with some lovely light fall off outside that Arnab and I had spotted earlier and made a few images. She was super cool to talk to about the bike scene and was telling me the she passed her test a few months ago however had been riding for a few years on a 125cc although she now has an SV650 which she uses to commute to work. Luanne was telling me about a all girls motorbike camp she was heading out on called VC London that sounded pretty amazing.

It was a total pleasure meeting her and I hope the she likes this portrait.
