Our shadow from the chair lift. After weeks of clouds and fog the sun has been a very welcome change in weather.

A forest in winter

That's what I think of when I see these beautiful Sleigh horses on a snowy hill at the beautiful Big White Ski Resort in British Columbia. Canada.

Best day of 2009-2011 season, Big White.

The self-portrait was taken yesterday at Big White Ski Resort. The fifth time I went snowboarding. Last week I decided my knee was strong enough to snowboard only on groomed green runs.

All the sudden I was on Goats Kick (black diamond). I saw the most magical beam of light in the glades down below. Enchanted, I followed the light into the glades. I was feeling intense euphoria and fear simultaneously. After following some pillow lines in the trees, I had to stop myself. My knee has not fully recovered. I stopped. I needed to diverge my attention to sometime else.

Instead I took another self-portrait on top of the mountain. Self-portrait on top a ski resort is a tedious task. I had to collect my gear and costume. I grabbed my massive pink wedding dress into my black backpack. As well my broken tripod. T-bar to the top of the mountain. I looked around to see an appropriate spot. A place where people would not see me. In the distance, the mountain slopes up rather than down. Thereby making it undesirable to other riders on the mountain. I reached my desired location. I took my snowboard off my feet and stepped into the snow. The snow reaches my hip.

After hiking in the snow for ten minutes, I stopped. The light was quickly disappearing. I grabbed my camera, hooked it to my broken tripod. Attached my timer. Finding out the timer did not work. I had to utilize the ten-second timer on my camera. The struggle was real and cold. Paired with the technical difficulties was my abilities to be the subject my imagination.

I should have used an additional light source, but the extreme winter temperatures prevented me from doing so. I need to improve my photography skills to accommodate for the extreme winter weather!

A Ski Run at Big White Ski Resort shot in Sepia from the Snow Ghost Express.

The drive to the local ski hill is 4o min from our house. We have done it so many time that I know what markers we pass at what time in the journey. This cabin is the very first lodging that you see as you enter the resort. I know when I see this cute little green A Frame that we have arrived!

Almost at the top of Big White Mountain Ski Resort. We are looking at the cliff chair on the right, with Rhonda Lake at the bottom.

Big White Ski Resort. The camera tends to make everything look blue so I had to play with the white balance to get the most desirable look.

Over the last few years we have developed a love for skiing. My boys and I have seasons passes for the local ski resort and we head up as often as we can. I think I love skiing more for the spectacular views then the actual sport...lol Its so beautiful. A whole different world with only a 45 min drive. So blessed.

Took this beautiful portrait a few days ago at Big White Ski Resort with my good friend Celeste.

The longest chair lift at Big White Ski Resort. A blessing and curse depending on the weather. It's a long a beautiful ride when the skies are clear and the wind is calm. However, this chair has the worst weather and more wind closers than any other lift.

This one was tough for me. I don't have photoshop so I used the app Snapseed on my phone to layer these images. I watched many youtube videos trying to learn and I am still confused. However...I am impressed at what this app can do. These are all images taken at our local ski hill in the summer. The mountains behind are one, the trees are another and the bikers!

The centre piece of Big White Ski Resort. The clock tower

This is "Big White". We ski here in the winter. Recently they have opened up in the summer for hiking and soon biking. This is "The Cliff" a black diamond run, the top of the chair lift is on the top right. What a stunning view. Not one I ever plan to see in the winter!

I am always blown away at the beauty at the top of the mountain. The weather creates amazing views.

It was so worth while to look out the window this morning, you only see colours like this when your up in the mountains

Some vintage skis rocking the pastel shades!

I enjoyed a ski date with this lovely gentleman! My friend Denis!

The Village Centre, Big White Ski Resort, BC Canada.

A beautiful sight with plenty of snow up on the mountain. The village is the centre of the resort, with ski in ski out vantage points right across the whole mountain.

The village centre is where all the action happens, leading you to the monstrous terrains of this epic ski resort. Many drinking hours were spent at Snowshoe Sams Pub, one of the delights in this magic ski resort.

Warren and I went up to Big White Ski Resort for New Years. We had planned on night skiing, however as Warren went to go buy tickets we found out there was no night skiing on New Years Eve. So we were 9 hours early for the midnight fireworks. There was plenty of activities going on, and we found a great band playing at Happy Valley lodge. I think we both had a pretty great time considering our skiing plans hadn't worked out.

10-20mm

Saw this skiing while at Big White. It appeared there was some snow creating a mist and reflecting the light to give this cool rainbow. Its vertical and made of snow!

The first day of spring break and we headed for the hills. It was a bluebird day and as the temp warmed to plus 3 the snow softened and made for "spring skiing" conditions. On the way up talked about this possibly being the last day as the currant Pandemic is resulting in closures of every social gathering place. As we drove home we found out that Big White was shutting down for the remainder of the season due to the coronavirus. I'm glad we had this day. Hope everyone is keeping safe.

I don’t even have words for yesterday. What a mind blowing day! On my second lap I bumped into Sean who was on his last lap. But he sure as hell set the tempo for the rest of my runs! The powder was unreal, but so were the lineups. After my 4th Black Forest lap I didn’t feel like lining up yet again for 30min so I jumped in my truck and drove over to Gem Lake. When I pulled into the parking lot, there were maybe 10 cars in total. I suited up and walked up to the lift with a line up not even coming out of the barriers. The lift had been shut down all morning and so the entire side had fresh untouched pow from the night before. At first I tried to take my regular route but I kept getting stuck because it wasn’t steep enough, the pow was no joke. It’s like white cold quicksand. Quite infuriating at times. But man, once I found the steep sections . The sun also joined me for a big part of the day. Definitely my best day at the mountain to date!!

A weird day of weather at Big White. In the village in blowing snow, 15 minutes later at the top of the chair the sun came out and it was beautiful.

some of the party wasn't feeling up to the Cliff, but Dad knew I was looking for photos. thankfully, it only took one run to get the shots I was looking for, and then he could go back to some easier skiing for his first day of the season. thanks, Dad!

Iain and I have both been up already, though, so we spent all afternoon doing jump turns, popping out of skis (okay, so that was just once, and Iain retrieved it for me from 10 feet up the mountain) and just generally having a blast on the double-blacks. it was a lot easier without wearing a camera under my jacket.
