A tree climbing lion in the Ishasha sector of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Lions in the region display the uncharacteristic habit of climbing the large fig trees throughout the park. According to local guides, during the colonial period poacher would place meat in trees to lure lions into the open for capture. The lions have since continued the habit.

White Rhino. White and Black Rhino are both the same color. The names are misnomers. There are two species of rhinos. One species are grazers that eat grasses and ground plants. The other are browsers that eat leaves from trees and bushes. The grazers have a broad face with a wide mouth to take in as much grass as possible. The browsers have a narrow pointed face in order to reach between the branches of bushes to get to the leaves. The name given to the grazers, White Rhino, is actually a corruption of the Dutch word for "wide." To distinguish the two, the browser species became known as Black Rhinos.
It is the end of a sunny hot day in Ndutu, part of Ngorongoro conservation area. Late day rains have passed through the area and the air is cooler now. Lion cubs from this pride frolic in the cool air. They have remained relatively sedentary during the course of the hot day. Like all children they don't care much about getting dirty in the mud. Three siblings (one male and two females) stand together staring at their sister. Hakuna matata! There will be difficult days ahead but for now life is good and innocence is bliss. #BigCats #Bringit

On September 07th I had the honor and the chance incredible to see Boxernose, King of the Massai Mara.
He was a legend of the Savanna.
He was already really skinny.
On September 27th I read in Stampa the article which announced the death of Boxernose.
Died following a fight against two other males, died honorably.
I contacted Massimo Vallarin, Honorary Warden of KWS, I sent him my photos and he confirmed to me there were pictures of Boxernose.
I felt a big sadness.
For those who wish it here is the translation of the article of Stampa of 27/09/2018
« Boxernose died during a fight , the oldest lion of the Massai Mara.
He died in lion. Not pierced by a lance, affected by a firearm or poisoned by a cruel hand. Boxernose died by fighting with two other males and, seriously wounded, dragged himself until his strengths allow it him. Boxernose was the oldest lion of the Massai Mara, the wildlife reserve situated in the southwest part of Kenya. Those who left for safari on this vast territory hoped to meet him. Live the shiver to be a few meters away from his beauty, to see his pride in his eyes, to feel the power of his howling.
On the forums of the sector Last January, Jasper Thind (Mara Lions project) declared: "we recently discovered the old male lion Boxernose in Mara Naboisho's reserve and he did not seem to be fine. He is very thin and cannot go hunting probably very well. He had a pair of spines of porcupine in his body. We think that he lost the fight with other males, separating him from the other lion without ears (Earness). We tried to know what had arrived at the young people, but we were not able to reach the zone because of the floods. Later, we met him again and he ate a carcass of zebra. The veterinarian decided to calm him to look after his wounds. He had profound tears in the back further to fights with other males. He also has a hernia probably caused by the conflict with buffaloes. We cannot make much for him and it is now better to leave alone him. It is an old lion and carried out the duty by reproducing and by propagating its genes.
For a long time, nobody had heard about him and many people thought that he had died. Then, last August, Massimo Vallarin, one of the Italian guides the most experimented in the region, Honorary Warden of KWS, photographed him apparently exhausted.
Now, Massimo Vallarin announced: king died. But he fought and lost honorably, according to the rules of the nature of which he was king.
In these hours, while the media have not given the information yet, a tom-tom of tourists and defenders of the environment spreads messages of memory and a big respect … ".
You can still see some pink on his snout from a recent meal, this head of the family was lounging in the morning with a full belly.
Lions in the crater switch behavioral roles with hyenas; mostly scavenging while hyenas are the primary hunters. After all, the crater isn't really big enough for their prey to get very far...why bother.
There's not really any editing here. If pros want to make some suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them! This is shot, a bit noisy on the high, for my camera ISO (because this really is at dawn) and with my old four-thirds telephoto + 1.7 x tele-extender. I wish it were 100% sharp, but I think this is the best I could do with the high iso...if a better one comes up, I'll post it also.
Oh, also? It's not hard to see wild animals on safari! Not hard at all.
