"Did you see that Kane? He's so dreamy! I'd facehug him in a heartbeat!"

Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Worked on the remaining frame work for the wall panels. Finished both yesterday and began adding detailing....which is going to take some time. Using a mix of styrene, Epoxy and various misc items (greeblies) to build out the details. I've decided to begin building back into the shuttles main entrance first before moving into the pilot stations...for the exception of the wall panel with all the piping rolling around. I really want to do that wall! HA! So the storage compartments will be separate sections and the airlock will be a separate section..the only way I can build this will be to keep it modular. ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎narcissus‬ ‪#‎shuttle‬ ‪#‎diorama‬ ‪#‎stowaway‬ ‪#‎bigchap‬ ‪#‎luckystar‬ ‪#‎scratchbuilding‬ ‪#‎modelbuilding‬

Paint progress on "The Beast" - ALIEN 79 -1:18 scale. Closed mouth "lipped" version - Group shots containing the transparent dome. I painted the dome as it would be a living part of the organism, not just a cool see through cover...looking organic, not just transparent. It's living material so you'd think it would have veining, textures, and various waves of color throughout the fleshy dome. Used swirls of clear gloss mixed with earth toned colors inside the dome to give some dimension to the vacuum formed piece. Pretty cool effects when the light moves through it. The rest of the head sculpt used an oily black as a base and additional earth tones and grays- this will play through the rest of the body and the rest of the head sculpts. ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎bigchap‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎alien79‬ ‪#‎painting‬ ‪#‎giger‬

Kind of a silly nickname for the ultimate lifeform, right? It's actually archaic slang for someone's child... and the Alien was indeed a crew member's "child."

For this weeks Macro Monday which was a redux, we were suppose to go back and pick our favorite theme from the year and use that for this weeks theme. I didn't do the theme from December 9: Member's Choice: Repetitive/Repetition so that's what I chose for this week.

Polyester caps should NEVER be used as a safety helmet.

The Beast - ALIEN 1979 - 1:18 scale. Some of the final images you will see of the unpainted beast before being painted. Worked on expanding the tail....just because. I like the longer tail as an alternate. #alien #bigchap #nostromo #sith_fire30

Fans of both know that ALIEN's Veronica Cartwright and LOST IN SPACE's Angela Cartwright are real life sisters! Of course, Penny Robinson would be in no danger from The Alien...everybody (and everyTHING) loves Penny.

If anyone is curious whether or not I've painted any of the Alien figures I've been building over the past several weeks, here is a teaser image of the complete pieces....Just trying to get some additional work done before I sit back and take some final photography. Much more to come! ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎giger‬ ‪#‎bigchap‬ ‪#‎alienisolation‬

I've been inspired by @easkirkland 's fantastic brush pen work so I finally decided to try and use the one I've had laying around. Not as clean or confident as Elizabeth's work, but I think it's pretty good for having no under sketch and no reference. I wasn't planning on drawing the body, but when the head didn't make me hate myself, I kept going. I'm sure I'll hate it a bit more with fresh eyes. Unfortunately his pose makes him look like he's waiting to buy stamps at the post office. Based on #bigchap , my favorite alien version from the first movie.

The long tail of the beast - Alien: Isolation - :18 scale. Assembling and sculpting the alien from the Creative Assembly game. The tail is twice as long as the 79 beastie - just took the original tail and doubled the length. Currently it is hard plastic...hope to make a bendy tail from it soon. Ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, torso, hips, knees etc.....similar to the 79 Alien I'm finishing up. Sculpting the new lower legs that are similar to the runner (dog) alien in Alien3 so it's a good introduction to what awaits me when I continue to build that particular beast. As always, I take more image than is needed - just love working with this fellow lol! ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎alienisolation‬ ‪#‎creativeassembly‬ ‪#‎bigchap‬ ‪#‎giger‬ ‪#‎xenomorph‬ ‪#‎sith_fire30‬ ‪#‎nostromo

The Beast - ALIEN 1979 - 1:18 scale. Another shot of the tail. Along with making the creature more menacing (in my opinion) it also offers more stability in the stance of the figure. A bendy tail is in the works but these static tails do the trick. Cast and manipulated into shape by a heat gun. Held to the body by a ball joint. #alien #nostromo #bigchap #sith_fire30

Shooting Mcfarlane's facehuggers and egg set with my Nikon D7100, Lensbaby 2.0 on PK-13 extension tube and a Aputure Halo ring flash.

A bit obvious that I was in need of a diffuser for my ring flash but I was happy that my setup was enough to set the dark mood.

Kept some noise and rendered with a bit of tint in hopes of capturing the cinematic mood of Ridley Scott's Alien.

Build update on the second alt posed version of "The Beast" - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Cast and shaped the tail as well as lowered the neck post a little bit...still may lower a little more. Will complete the assembly of the upper torso tonight then begin sculpting over some of the gaps and seams left from the build. ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎aliens‬ ‪#‎giger‬ ‪#‎bigchap‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬

Inner peace, or inner DEATH?

This is why I like using the Lensbaby 2.0... it brings a bit more drama to an otherwise ordinary shot. Played with the multiple exposure function as well in my D7100.

Kept all the noise and rendered with a bit of tint to try to capture the cinematic mood of Ridley Scott's Alien.

Paint progress on "The Beast" - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale.Close mouthed "lipped" version - Dome removed. Old bone when dry, is mostly white...living bone has a more aged white, richness to it. So the skull is more off white this time around with darker hues surrounding it. Still have some detailing to add. ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎nodome‬ ‪#‎bigchap‬ ‪#‎painting‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎giger‬

Working on the version of the beast from ALIEN: Isolation. The big adjustment will be the legs. Other adjustments will need to be made but I will be installing some of my own preferences as well starting with the exposed teeth of the creature in the game - for the sculpt it will have the same mouth structure as my Big Chap figure. #alien #alienisolation #bigchap #sith_fire30 #Sevastopol

"Some assembly required" - Build update on the second alt posed version of "The Beast" - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Okay, more like A LOT of assembly is required HA! I began assembling the semi-articulated version of the "squatting" alien yesterday. Hollowed out the upper and lower halves of the torso so the pieces, when merged, will bend with the use of a heat gun. Did the same for the upper/lower legs and ankles.

It's tricky - too hot, the resin crumbles. Not enough heat, the resin cracks under the stress. Just right, the resin folds like cloth...for just a few seconds! HA! Gotta be quick.

I was worried about the balance of the figure in this squatting position - so far, so good. It's able to stand on it's own.

Added ball joints to the shoulders and will articulate the elbows and wrists tonight. The neck contains a ball joint as well and the head has a wide range of movement.

So, progress has been made smile emoticon This series of three may be "fixed" posed pieces for the most part but I think they'll look very good when complete. More to come! ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎aliens‬ ‪#‎bigchap‬ ‪#‎actionfigure‬ ‪#‎custom‬ ‪#‎art‬ ‪#‎resin‬ ‪#‎smoothon‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬
