Los Angeles Zoo - Los Angeles, California - Indah (meaning "beautiful" in Indonesian) the Sumatran Tiger was born on 10/8/14 at Point Defiance Zoo in Tacoma, Washington to Jaya (Mom) and Malosi (Dad). She moved to the Los Angeles Zoo in July 2016.
She has two sisters/littermates, Dari and Kirana, who still reside at Point Defiance Zoo.
She also has two older siblings:
(1) Dumai, her brother, was born on 8/22/12 and continues to reside at Point Defiance Zoo.
(2) Kali, her sister, was born on 4/17/13 and continues to reside at Point Defiance Zoo.
Her mother, Jaya, passed away at Point Defiance Zoo on 4/28/16 from an aggressive bacterial infection.
Her father, Malosi, lives at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida.
It was good to see the Sumatran tiger exercising with enough cover to allow it to disappear while also giving some viewing. It was quite dark so I was pleased to get one shot fairly clearly.
Two of four cubs born in June, Kinza and Shendi had been receiving veterinary treatment for an illness for a few weeks. Kinza died on 1 November and Shendi died on 12 November. The siblings had been suffering from cowpox.
I have been in hibernation on flickr for the last two months because I was back home in Sri lanka and I didn't have my pc to process any of the photos I took. I am back in Melbourne now and just started processing my photos. I thought of starting off with one of my favourites.
As far as photo technicalities (& blur go), this photo is a failure (the light was really bad). But I really love the 'moment' in this.
The photo actually depicts a wildboar attacking a leopard in the wild (not the other way around!). To start off, we were lucky enough to see two large male leopards acting aggressively over a territorial dispute, but the best moment occured when both the leopards came across the path of herd of 6 adult wildboars. Surprisingly, the wildboars actually attacked the leopards aggressively without any provocation. One of the leopards sought refuge in a nearby scrub, while this one tried to defend before running away. Certainly one of my best sightings at Yala to date.

Here are two photos from this year of the 2 young Sumatran Tigers, Anala and Jeda, at Disney Animal Kingdom. Happy New Year!
A wild cheetah that I photographed on foot at Zimanga, South Africa. The giraffe was also quite interested in me.
