T20 Cricket Big Bash action at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Sydney Thunder defeated the Sydney Sixers. 38,000 people watched. Here the golden hour catches the upper tiers of the Bradman and Noble stands.

Act 2

The Trolley Cometh

*******

Up on a hummock a large stone manor sits, dominating the landscape below.

A proper butler opens the Manor’s double doors and a stream of well gowned, ladies pour out. The many jewels they are wearing sparkling like some sort of jewel filled waterfall as they move heading down to where a quite ornate Trolley awaits them.

The whispering rustle of high end satin and the erupting glitter of colourfully flickering tiffany quality jewels, lighting up the dreary early morning as female members of the wedding party descend.

The bride is the last to come out into the early morning, stopping to survey the activity below , ever so a royal highness looking down on her subjects.

It was her idea to have her brides maids be driven out to her parents country estate before the dress rehearsal and have a photo grapher take shots of her party at various locations. Since the Groom and his Groomsmen were not allowed, by custom, to view the gowned bride before the ceremony, they were of course not invited. Nor was anyone else outside herself, the bridal party and the photo grapher. The rehearsal and dinner were to take place later that afternoon, and the bride and her party would be changing at the country estate. Towards that means they had already placed cases aboard the trolley containing their evening clothes and everyday jewelry that they would wear for the evenings festivities..

She preferred to be in control off all aspects of the situation. Needless to say, her wedding planner, waiting at the stone cathedral, had developed a migraine over the whole affair.

After a couple of group shots are arranged in front of the elegant trolley, the party is herded aboard by the tuxedoed trolley driver. He has their schedule to keep. He is helped by his pretty blonde wife, herself dressed shimmering, sparkling, as she expertly moves (herds?) the elegant ladies , escorting them cheerfully to their seats.

And with a lurch of the trolley on the old private road, the entire ultra-wealthy group set off on their pre nuptial adventure.

End Act 2

The connection between acts 1 & 2, for those who haven’t figured it out, will be revealed in act 3.

Big Bash League Cricket - Melbourne Stars vs Melbourne Renegades

1977 Moto Morini 3 ½ Sport.

In the early 1970s, Moto Morini launched their first 72° V-twin engined motorcycles, designed by Franco Lambertini, and created by Franco and Gino Marchesini.[9] The 350 Sport and Strada models displaced 344 cc and were complemented in 1977 by 500 cc Sport and Strada models. Equipment on the models was of high-spec and when released the Morini 3½ was around the same price as a Honda CB750.

Moto Morini 3½ GT (Strada).

The Morini 3½ still has a loyal following and a number of spare parts are available from specialist firms.

Moto Morini is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer founded by Alfonso Morini in Bologna, in 1937.

To some in Victoria, the MCG is the holiest of shrines. A cricket stadium through the summer and Australian Rules Football stadium through winter, with the occasional rock concert thrown in, it is never dull here. Membership of the Melbourne Cricket Club pretty much requires one to be registered at birth by another member. By the time the baby reaches adulthood, they should get their membership card.

It is a nice venue, we have seen a variety of matches there and I have even attended a dinner, which was very pleasant.

Over the last few years, whilst the camera quality has improved on the iPhones, I have never been particularly pleased with the colours. Recently I decided to play with the profiles in Adobe Lightroom and have set upon the Adobe colour profiles being more to my liking. I now reset the colour profile after import and edit to that.

The man they call G.O.A.T. (Australian off-spinner 'greatest of all time'), Nathan Lyon, prepares to deliver another turner to West Indies batsman, Darren Bravo, who has been the West Indies' best batsman this series. The other batsman, Kregg Brathwaite, scored 85 on Day 1 of the Sydney cricket test between the two nations.

Lyon took his 100th wicket in Australia, and now has 184 career wickets at 33.84, more wickets than previous Australian off spinners. The test also marked the debut of off-spinner Steve O'Keefe. In Australia leg-spinners do better - Clarrie Grimmett, Richie Benaud, and Shane Warne to name a few (and Warne took 708 test wickets at an average of 25.41).

The West Indies, crippled by a dysfunctional board, low player payments and dis-motivation have struggled to perform competitively this series. While comparisons with yesteryear may be unfair, Bravo's 247 runs for the series so far at an average of 49.40 contrast with Brian Lara's innings of 277 at the SCG in 1993. It was Lara's first century in his fifth test and Lara later named his first daughter 'Sydney'.

The popularity of T-20 cricket has outshined Tests this year, with the Big Bash, which has more 'stars', drawing 80,000 to a Melbourne game recently. But the SCG had a healthy crowd of 32,000 on a wet day, about three-quarters full. Ticket pricing is an issue. A sheltered seat at a test costs $165, but the same seat is $60 at Big Bash. The West Indies didn't bridge the gap this year, and their best known players are in the Big Bash and not the test side. However, the West Indies is a collection of some 16 countries and lack a cohesive national identity, making it easier for players to opt out.

Separately India's IPL, now in its ninth year, has become that country's main cricket event. Bollywood stars, broadcast coverage and players' fees which can reward moderate talent more highly than those representing their country attract players and marketing spend. Its international impact may be reined in slightly if the Lodha report's recommendations are supported, preventing the intrusion of the IPL season into the traditional cricket calendar (and the leaching of players from domestic competitions). However, international competition will not be helped by the money deal the International Cricket Council looks likely to endorse providing 62% of broadcast revenues to Australia, England and India with other Test-playing nations receiving 5% each. Unless there is a more equitable division of funds there will soon be fewer marketable teams to play against.

Funny to see Microsoft ads at the cricket, although the Surface 4 is rather good. One Surface ad took music from South Korean band, 2NE1 (I am the best): www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7_lSP8Vc3o

The batsmen chat while the spectators kiss at the cricket Big Bash 'local derby' Sydney Sixers vs. Sydney Thunder.

Thunder (in green) scored 202 for the loss of five wickets, more than 10 an over. This was too steep a run chase for the pink-clad Sixers. At 2-101 from nine overs they were in with a chance, but Brad Haddin was dismissed and then Nic Maddinson broke his bat on 68. He was caught off Fawed Ahmed soon after for 70 and the Sixers lost wickets from there, all out 156.

Thunder's Shane Watson (in foreground, he scored 66 runs off 41 balls for Thunder) and Michael Hussey (Mr Cricket scored 41 from 29) are in the picture, and errant West Indian Andre Russell (at left), batting for Thunder, hit four 6's in scoring 46 off 20. At the wicket are Sixers batsmen Maddinson and Jordan Silk. The loss cemented the Sixers at the bottom of the table while the Thunder are somewhere in the middle.

The game had been sold out for a week or two, and the crowd was 38,456, a NSW domestic cricket crowd record. A good time was had by all (15-20 minute food and beer queues in the Brewongle stand were a minus).

I missed the daytime women's game, which is catching on. The fifth year of Big Bash League, or BBL, is now one of the top 10 most watched sports leagues based on average sports crowds of 28,279 before this game. It's behind the NFL and English Premier League, but ahead of Japanese professional baseball (no small feat, as anyone trying to get a ticket to a Tokyo Yomiuri Giants game can attest).

Went to my first 20 20 "Big Bash" cricket match between the Sydney Sixers and the Perth Scorchers at the SCG. This is a traditional cheerleader celebration of a "sixer" ... the sort of hit from the batsman that an American would call a home run when the ball is hit out of the park!

Francis & Barnett Limited was an English motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1919 by Gordon Inglesby Francis and Arthur Barnett and based in Lower Ford Street, Coventry, England. Early motor cycles were affectionately known as ' Franny B'. Motorcycles were produced for enthusiasts and were reasonably affordable for citizens for use as general transport. The majority of the lighter motorcycles used Villiers and later Two-stroke engine and later Associated Motor Cycles AMC engines. During the 1930s the 250cc Cruiser model 250 cc (15 cu in) was developed with a faired engine that protected those riding from any oil or dirt – one of the first of its kind to do so. AMC took over Francis & Barnett Limited in 1947 combining this with the James motorcycle models in 1957. The combined company remained in business until 1966.

People may well bemoan the loss of the longer format county matches, superseded as they have been over the years by a schedule of one-day, twenty-twenty and hundred ball affairs. Many cite the changing habits of a nation, the economy and 'life-work' balance. I think though there was another reason. Those seats!

There were, I remember, professional spectators who turned up with wicker boxes with enough food and drink to have survived a three-week game, and a provisions list which would include cushions and blow-ups. A faithful retainer to assemble it all and drive them home afterwards. But for the average school-boy, propelled through the turnstiles from the 62 buses on the Bristol Road, comfort had to be balanced by practicality, and by what could be squeezed into one's hold all, A drink, some sandwiches, Playfair’s 'Cricket Monthly', a transistor radio (with earpiece), a pair of binoculars and a mac, left little room for anything else to deaden the pain. Ah, happy days.
