I'm taking time out of the Norfolk set to show the photos I took during a visit to Chatsworth House Gardens to see this year's "Beyond Limits" set of sculptures. It is well worth a visit and if you're rich and fancy one then contact Sotheby's.

We go every year - some great large-scale sculpture on display. It runs until late October - check the chatsworth website for details.

The Chatsworth gardens are currently home to a selection of outdoor sculpture that Sotherbys are selling.
The one is by Richard Hudson, a giant shiny polished steel thing that looks like a tuba gone wrong. Brings back memories of the Skygate sculpture in chicago, tho not quite as smoothly finished.

This is a silhouette of Barry Flanagan's 'Large Left-Handed Drummer'. Flanagan, who died recently, often used hares in his sculptures and often appears at Beyond Limits.

The Rockery at Chatsworth Gardens.
This was one of the most ambitious rock gardens of its time and is entirely artificial. In 1838 the 6th Duke invited Paxton to join him on a Grand Tour of Europe and Paxton built the Rockery as a reminder of their journey through the Alps. He invented a steam-powered machine to lift the locally quarried gritstone rocks into position.

This is a detail shot of the sculpture House of Knowledge by the artist Jaume Plensa.
I saw this fantastic object at the No Limits exhibition at Chatsworth House in the fall of 2008 and was completely bowled over by it. (There are lots more piccies of this my photostream).
Some follow up research on the internet indicated that the artist was also involved in the Channel 4 Big Art Project and a large public work entitled Dream was to be shortly installed on the reclaimed and landscaped spoil heap from a former coal mine in Sutton Manor on the outskirts of St Helens.
This is a 5 minute drive from my house and something that I've been eagerly watching out for as I pass this site almost everyday!!
And it's being installed right now! And it is stunning!

News of this sculpture being on display at Chatsworth House back in the fall of 2008 was enough to get me out of my bed very early one Saturday morning to go and see the full exhibition in the gardens and grounds of this Country Estate and the trip was well worth it because I also discovered the incredible work of Jaume Plensa on the same trip.
But, without doubt, Planet stole the show and it is a regret that the only camera I owned at the time to record this was a Kyocera P&S.
Because of this and my lack of processing skills at the time I have regularly revisited these images to try and tease out a little more from them in an attempt to convey the sheer wonder and spectacle of a giant baby that appeared to be floating effortlessly above the ground.
This is my latest iteration.
