This whole area was once quarry - five separate gulches dug for limestone. The spoil was tipped down the hillside by tramway into heaps - banks as they were known. Beyond them lay the Taff Vale Railway coal yards - officially the Williams Sidings. The Bowery kids clambered the banks, the Billy Banks. All swept away when the flats were developed. And soon the flats themselves.

Beyond the capitalism

"The population of Africa was a gigantic, matted, crisscrossing web, spanning the entire continent and in constant motion, endlessly undulating, bunching up in one place and spreading out in another, a rich fabric, a colorfull arras". What defines Africans is a compulsory mobility. For thousands and thousands years, Africa walked. Just the new generations knows the motorised mobility. Thus, Africa keeps on moving farer, faster.

1. I've always been a creative person and am glad that at this point in my life I have decided to spend more time and effort on being creative...and wherever that may take me.

2. I've lived lots of different places in the world...but always in an old house...it just feels right...and my present house is over 100 years old!

3. I have many acquaintances and casual friends but my inner circle is small and tight.

4. My sister is my best friend and it pains me that she is suffering from a chronic disease.

5. My partner is one of my strongest supporters and he lets me be me.

6. The perfect end to the day is a glass of red wine.

7. I am obsessed with rusty metal, peeling paint, letters and numbers.

8. Though I love the outdoors and cherish a beautiful garden, I have a black thumb...and really no desire to ever have it be green.

9. Blogging has been more enjoyable than I ever thought it would be...it has opened up a whole new creative vein for me.

10. If someone would have told me 10 years ago that I would be enchanted with photography and participating in a year long photography course, I would have thought they were crazy!

I would've loved some separation light, but my SB-26's batteries died. Ugh...

The shortest route to heaven is by the Straight Path. The shortest route to hell is by the Crooked Path. But where we are going is beyond heaven & hell.

It has now become a bit of a tradition - every few years, I head to Scotland, grab a rental car, and then cut northwest. This year I flew straight in to Inverness, then wound out toward Skye before looping up towards Durness and then back down to Inverness. The route, partially made popular by the "North Coast 500" is bringing a bit more traffic to the area, but with a bit of creative exploration there are still lots of great untouched areas and quiet back roads to wander.

Wesleyan alumni gathered in Brooklyn on March 5 to join President Michael Roth, author of Beyond the University: Why Liberal Education Matters, for a lively discussion about the threats facing higher education today. The evening was hosted by Betsey Schmidt ’89, Benno Schmidt ’93, Benno C. Schmidt P’89 P’93, Sid Ray ’88, Stacey Matthias ’92, Rachel Hines ’82 P’18, and Elizabeth Hazan & Steve Hicks P’18.

For this project I set up my Nikon D70s on a tripod and I held up my LED reading lamp in the space between me and my camera. I decided that I wasn't going to smile to emphasis that both sides are significant parts of me and one side doesn't over power the other. The idea behind this picture is that some people know me as girly and some people know me as the athlete. The question is do you know the real me?
