Smile on Saturday - What's in a name

Rather late in getting this taken and posted. We had a request for a little person to come and play at Nanny and Pops' house (garden) what could be better than to hang out with a two year old? I've achieved my steps goal 😂

I decided on August as it is the first of August today but it is also a First name. The following information is from WikiPedia:

August is both a given name and surname developed from the Latin, Augustus. Derived from the Latin word augere, meaning "to increase," Augustus had the meaning "esteemed" or "venerable" and was a title given to Roman emperors.

I have included a poppy and a couple of poppy seed head decorations as Gladiolus and Poppies are the birth flowers for the month of August. My gladioli haven't come up this year so I have used a poppy again...I think I would be pushing my luck if I used this for my 100 Flower challenges!

More practise with my brushstroke lettering.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

South Queensferry, Scotland

A five frame panorama of all three bridges crossing the Firth of Forth at Queensferry. The Queensferry Crossing (cable-stayed bridge), Forth Road Bridge (conventional suspension bridge) and the Forth Rail Bridge (cantilever). Not the best picture you'll see of these icon bridges but I've been playing with Photoshop CC and trying out some of the functions and techniques that are lacking in my Elements 12 version.... why didn't I upgrade sooner!

This dramatic post industrial landscape is an inheritance from when Japan ruled Taiwan. This is a derelict old copper refinery which was shuttered in 1981. In Chinese it is known as "The Thirteen Levels" after the thirteen level which each supported long sheds. All the sheds are gone now and all that is left is the terracing, but. when operational each level the ore was further refined and the minerals sorted.

I walked behind the building, it was quite eerie and foreboding!

4th September 2020:

I decided that having seen rather a lot of people who had made themselves Welsh Rabbit (or Welsh rarebit) for lunch yesterday that we really ought to have some too.

One slice for me and another one for Graham, he had a grilled tomato with his, but I can't eat them, so just had mine on its own. Although I would have loved some Worcester sauce on it, I gave that a miss too. But, it was still delicious.

I have always know it as Welsh Rabbit, but others may well call it Welsh rarebit.

Bow to the Procrastination Queen of Indecisiveness!!!

Oh yeah Fuggers.

Thursday Sept 25 was Actively Procrastinating Day for Flickr Group Roulette. Three shots in three rooms showcasing the stuff I am procrastinating. Better late than never.

So bad it could be considered avoidance. Maybe. :P

Perhaps even a stretch for Sat Theme story in 3 parts!

Of course I have to wear The Crown.

One: boxes and packaging for sending out jars of homemade peach & fig jam. YUM. Random stuff to return to Target, unfinished painting (bf's not mine), clothing waiting for mending. Off to side is closet with Oodles of crafts stuff waiting to be used.

Two: 4+ loads of laundry, clutter on dresser.

Three: Bags and piles of yarn, fabric, clothes for donation, and books needing to be used and organized. Only about 1/3 of books total between me and my guy. About 1/3 of the craft stuff too.

*Dang Flickr downsizes multi shots. The original is much Bigger!

Check out each individual shot now with added notes!

although I "knew" Kelly through other contacts, I just became her contact recently but I already love her-so here's a belated Happy Birthday to her from myself and this adorable baby!

Quite a bit of fresh snow fell local mountains of Vancouver last week!

It's neat that people can just park their car and throw a line into San Francisco Bay. Not a lot of fanfare. Of course, it can be dangerous on the rocks. For those not familiar with the scene, that's the famed Alcatraz Prison on the horizon. Using a Fuji Bleach recipe, I was able to get the sky color to somewhat match the water. #X100F

Just deleting some of my archives and came across this one from last year…

My birthday was earlier this month but it seems I'm still getting to celebrate - and I'm definitely not complaining.

What you're looking at is a homemade, as in made from scratch, freshly baked carrot cake a girlfriend of mine made. She's a wonderful baker and this tasted every bit as good as it looks.

We only get together a few times a year now, and she visited the other day so we could go on our yearly trip to go see the Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens, to celebrate our birthdays and exchange early Christmas gifts. Somehow I think I came out on the better end this time.

*** And of course this photo does not do this cake justice.

Black Lake in Wilmslow, Cheshire

i finally got around to photographing the bed...it isn't what i had planned but still makes me smile.

Off my first roll of 120 shot with a Hasselblad. The people who sold me the camera put some expired Portra in the box... four years past date, it looks alright to me.

However, the big problem is that the lens is filthy, and this is after it has been back to them once for cleaning. There are white dots of dust everywhere, and a few things that looks like strands of fibre. I'll have a go at getting some of it off with a soft lens brush, but beyond that i might have to pay to get it cleaned professional. Bah!

Despite all that, it's lovely to use. Not having a light meter is a little... challenging, but i didn't guess any so wrong that they didn't come out. Very forgiving!

Update: fought the good fight with Canon's scanning software, and managed to stop it trying to guess at the frame crop. The little cut-outs were throwing it off and making it cut-off on an angle...

I purchased this plant two years ago during the holiday season from a local hardware store. Within a few days, all the buds fell off. I then did what the salesperson told me, "pretty much ignore it, hardly water, and place where it gets filtered light. Two years later, in March 2015, the plant developed buds and today it bloomed! Better late than never!

- a leaf out of time...

Nearly forgot to take my 365 shot last night, too busy enjoying ourselves for my sons 13th Birthday Party....Great Day, Great Weather, Great Food (if I don't mind saying so myself...lol) and Great company.

Last year when we went to Vegas I too shot this Chihuly installation. I never uploaded it here and I don't know why. So, 14 months later, here you go.

You've gotta go big on this one.

I was so pleased and excited yesterday when Mrs Bully finally arrived with youngsters in tow! I only caught a quick glimpse of at least 2 youngsters because they were staying hidden amongst the leaves. The good thing is that she seems to be preferring the upstairs window feeder, as this enables her to keep the youngsters well hidden whilst she goes backwards and forwards to feed them. The only shot I got yesterday was of Mum in the tree with a beak full of food (taken through the window) but I'm really hoping I'll get the chance to photograph the youngsters once they get a bit more confident and come down for their own food...in the words of my dear friend and contact Mark (Radar) Eggleton Happy Days!

I apologise for my lack of comments lately and hope to catch up with you all soon : )

I was very lame, and did not finish this sweater in time for my niece's birthday. It caused me much sadness, but it is done now, and I am pleased with the way it turned out.

Using this as my 365 photo for 6th October... I picked the We're Here group that day, hats n wigs, and had a plan of what I was going to do but then Jack, my 7 year old decided, just for larks and fun, to headbutt a radiator at his friends house. He said his vision was blurred afterwards so off to A&E I went and no photo was taken! Luckily he hadn't done any damage and he's back to normal now.

I didn't want to miss my day though - but I changed my mind about what to do and just dug out my only wig instead. I need more photography props!
