The filter of afterthought
eight minutes to
craves evening warmth
as we're given to
understanding, therein
a complete field of view
more than I ever knew
the helping-hand of quantum mobility
marks the fabric of Spring-built Summer houses
accommodating peace and tranquility
through the air this June breeze
the mind becomes free with Nature's agility
want is a list to be done 'yesterday'
never enough time, no never
pain is a standstill of time, face to face
with a quaint magic, has it ever?
forming a relative distance in grace
that prays skywards, onwards and forever...
now I hear the clout of 70s substitues
awaiting the renaissance of northern lights
through the trance of today's deep voices
can I possibly remix my life in such flights?
of fancy and wherever it takes my choices...
those of inner space reserved for all-natural soundbytes
it'll blow your mind, when you allow your heart to roam
below the Ash is the lumières lighting the fire
a soft and subtle motion of pictures past and present
such a supreme moment in which to aspire
the lost goals of earlier depressive lament
now sunkissed and reborn unto the evening ready to inspire.

Thanks be to my family, friends and all who have supported me through this darned illness.
what LEPROSY aka HANSEN's disease does to a human being.
1/4 million people worldwide suffer this deforming disease.
They are discriminated against more than they are helped.
Their children cannot attend normal schools even though they do not have the disease.
In fact 3 days of medication is all that is needed to make the victim of LEPROSY totally non contagious

The disease destroys the tendons in their fingers thus they are permanently abnormally flexed.
Victims are segregated from the general population and often live in their own communities aka 'leprosy colonies' many of which I have visited.

Many people with Leprosy
come for treatment too late
after their stigmata is already apparent.
Although there are compaigns against LEPROSY that offer victims of this horrendous disease food, shelter and some dignity, many people with the illness choose to beg and many depending on the severity of their deformities can earn quite alot, many more than the typical day laborer.

In Japan the length of pregnancy is said to be 10 months. This is because the Japanese measure pregnancy in terms of lunar months, or rather menstrual cycles, from the date of the last normal period to birth. There are ten missed cycles, so pregnancy is deemed as being ten months (or "monthlies") long.
Westerners on the other hand measure pregnancy in calendar months from the date of conception, which is 9 and a half menstrual cycles, or 38 weeks, or approximately 9 calendar months (depending on the months).
Aparently in Western prenatal clinics too, gestation is measured from the first day of the last menstrual cycle, which is also the first day of menstruation.
What I am not clear about is what marks the beginning of gestation, or the menstrual cycle. Cycles do not have beginnings and ends, since they are circlular.
I guess that one reason is clarity - there is menstrual blood on this day and so the event can be timed and days can be counted. But that seems like an arbitary length of time for both Japanese and Western medics to deem the beginning of gestation.
Is there a medical basis, perhaps in the fact that this is the day that the mother's temperature drops, and stays low until ovulation, or in the level of hormones, the justify the assertion that gestation is medically, 40 weeks long?
Yasuko suggested that the current system, is based upon the transmogrification of the soul: when one egg is thrown out, the soul moves to next egg, so the life of the next egg starts at the death of the previous one.
This may be one cultural explanation. But medically, I am not sure why gestation should be deemed to start at the death and evacuation of the previous egg. Or why the menstrual cycle should be said to "start" at menstruation, instead of at the end of the "previous" mensturation, or at ovulation - the day that the egg leaves the ovum.
One might argue that gestation is the time that the egg is in preparation but, in a sense the egg has been in preparation since the mother was born, or even before that. One could arge that pregnancy is almost infinite!
Upon investigation, measuring gestation from the time of the "last normal period" does seem to be arbitary - based upon a time that can be measured (when conception / ovulation are often more difficult to ascertain).
All the same, I guess that is more natural to say that pregnancy is precisely 10 womens-months since when we are talking about the cycles, periods, time span of a woman's body. If one uses calendar months then there is going to be error in estimating the babies developement depending on the length of the month.
To overcome the miscalculations introduced by the various lengths of Gregorian months, I am told that when Western prenatal clinics characterise the development of the foetus, they also use 4 week months but in order to make pregnancy fit the common conception of 9 months of the Gregorian calendar, the first and last months are considered to be 6 weeks long.
In any event, it seems that the length of pregnancy in Japan is measured in a more natural, female oriented way, from the time of mother's last mensturation in menstrual cycles. Since it is women that do pregnancy, and it is their bodies, this seems like a very sensible way of measuring things.
In the West pregnancy is measured in a more male-oriented fashion, as the number of Gergorian calendar months from the time of conception - when the guy gets involved. Some might argue that the Western system is more child orientated, but there is nothing child orientated about the months of the year. The child is completely unaware of the months of the calendar.
The fact that some Japanese misconcieve the length of pregnancy to be ten calendar months is discussed here. As I mention on that forum, I think that Westerner's characterisation of pregnancy as being nine calendar months involves a misconception too. No pun intended.
Addendum
The Japanese also have a different way of counting age. Children are considered to be one year old at birth, two years old at their first New Years Day, and then they gain a year at each New Year's day, rather than at birthdays. This is influenced perhaps by
1) Less of an emphasis on individualism - hence everyone becomes older on the same day rather than on individual birthdays.
2) The child is considered to have been alive (for 10 calendar months) at birth, so is considered to be one year old (rather than zero years old) at birth. This again may be influenced from view age from the mother's point of view. To a father, a new born baby may be new, and zero years old, but to the mother, the baby is someone with whom she has had almost a year long relationship.

"... By reducing sleeping hours I hope to be able to do more everyday. I know that some people need only 4h sleep and they are full of energy. I wish I could do so but I usually need 8.5 hours. I would like to know how many hours you guys sleep and if you have some tips to reduce sleep time. Do you think we are "born" with a needed amount of sleep or can we change it? ..."
Sleeping 4 hours a day and feeling refreshed! Fatigued more like it. I certainly don't believe it. I've had stretches of months with only 4 hours sleep per day. I functioned but only at a base level. I didn't feel refreshed staying up 76hrs at a time. [0] For me and (we are all individuals) I need a good 8Hrs. If I don't, I'm one sorry mess to work with. Communication is by grunt. With rest, bit of exercise, food I work far better and do tasks far better.
You need sleep. If you don't get enough sleep there is enough studies [1] to suggest performance at a lot of levels is severely reduced. Sleep deprivation is also form of mental torture. I don't know why anyone would want to have less sleep and as a result do things worse than they can.
Trying to avoid sleep is a symptom. What is the real problem? Are you trying to do more with the time you have? Is it a time management issue? Is it an issue of living far from your work and travelling? Do you work in a job that "demands" so much it requires you to miss something so basic as sleep? Is your boss torturing you?
Re-define the problem. Is it sleep you need to miss out on or is it something else?

[0] 3 days doesn't sound like much bit it is. An interesting experiment was to find ways to keep me awake. Funny but some Yoga & breathing worked a charm. Another thing is I learnt how cat-nap. Fall asleep, deep sleep at a moments notice. Day or night.

If you decide to become a patient of a CBP doctor, there are four important steps we ask you to go through:
History of Injury and Examination,
Postural Analysis (some doctors utilize computerized methods such as the PosturePrint system)
Spinal X-rays (analyzed either by hand or with use of computer aided systems such as PostureRay),
Report of Findings - Where the doctor will explain your problems and if he/she can help through application of chiropractic services and the unique recommended plan for your case.
History of Injury and Examination
Our History of Injury is designed to determine whether your condition is within the realm of our care. Based upon the results, one of the doctors will make appropriate recommendations regarding an examination or referral to another doctor if your presenting problem is not a chiropractic condition. Most often, your condition will be treatable by our care.
A thorough spinal and musculo-skeletal examination will be performed in order to identify which structures of your body are injured and most likely causing your problem.
Computerized Postural Analysis
It has been known for years that body posture is like a “Window into the Shape of the Spinal Column”. Figure 1 shows that Abnormal Posture is always associated with an abnormal spine. Body Postural problems aid the doctor of chiropractic in identifying a variety of dysfunctions in the spinal column. Abnormal Postures can cause or relate to a number of health problems. Abnormal Posture causes increased force and pressure on the muscles, ligaments, and bones of your spinal column. These abnormal forces (caused by abnormal posture) lead to a break down of body tissues causing pain and damage.
Figure 2: Postural Decay as we age.
Posture Digitization: Postural photographs of you the patient can be obtained, in which a sophisticated computer program known as PosturePrint will objectively measure your postural distortions. These photographs enable the doctor to detect and measure abnormal positions of the human skull, shoulders, ribcage, pelvis, knees, and feet. In other words, he or she can show you how far out of alignment your posture is. This helps explain why you may be hurting as well as aid the doctor in prescribing corrective postural-based exercises unique to CBP rehabilitative methods.
(Click Here to download sample PosturePrint Report of Findings - This PosturePrint Examination is part of your initial patient workup)
Spinal X-rays
Many patients often ask if a chiropractor should take x-rays of their spines. The answer is simple. Properly taken spinal x-rays are like a blue print of your spine. With x-rays, the chiropractor can see how an individual spine deviates from normal alignment and we can clearly decide on appropriate treatment. Without an x-ray they would only be guessing. Would you want a mechanic to work on your car engine without looking under the hood?
For example, the figure below is a sample of common abnormal neck alignment subluxations (viewed from the side) with an estimate on average time needed to rehab such problems. It is clearly evident the further your neck is from the normal, then the longer you will need to perform rehabilitative measures. Please note that these are only generic estimates, as many factors dictate how fast a patient responds such as age, the length of time the problem has been there, amount spinal degeneration, etc.
Another important finding that properly taken x-rays will identify is spinal arthritis. Many people are not even aware that spinal disc disease and bone arthritis are developing in their spines. For many people this is a “time bomb” waiting to explode. Figure 6 below shows an abnormal neck (viewed from the side) with arthritis in the mid neck.
Figure 6: Side view showing arthritis in the Neck
Report of Findings
The report of findings is a very important part of communication in a CBP chiropractor's office. Before they decide if Chiropractic care is right for you, they will sit down with you (the patient) and explain the findings of the examination, posture analysis, and spinal x-rays. Many times patients tell the CBP chiropractor that other doctors never have shown them their spinal x-rays. This never happens at at a CBP practioner's office. We are confident that you will find that CBP trained chiropractors are very thorough in the search, identification and explanation of your spinal problem.
Once they have identified your particular spinal problem, the doctor will recommend an appropriate treatment plan specific to your condition.
