Leslie has been heading East (or West depending on your perspective) ever since leaving her home in South Dakota, USA. A graduate from the University of South Dakota 2000 (BA in History and Political Science) and Princeton University 2004 (Master in Public Affairs), she has spent the previous twelve years working as a School Bus Driver (her most difficult job to date) in rural South Dakota; a program assistant with the US Department of Agriculture and then as a Civics teacher in Washington DC; an ESL teacher in rural Vietnam; and as the Director of Programs and Asia Operations for Princeton in Asia, a century old not-for-profit based in the USA that places recent college graduates in service-oriented fellowships throughout Asia. In her role with PiA, she also established PiA’s first field office in Asia in Singapore. After six years with PiA, she took a vacation to Bali and met one of the incredible moms in the Green School network, who introduced her to the GS administration and the rest of the history is to be written. In Asia, she has lived in Vietnam, Singapore, India, China, and now Indonesia. Leslie joined GS in November 2011 to help develop the High School programs, advocate for students’ needs, and implement the foundational piece of our program; a system of Individualized Learning Plans (ILP) with the ultimate goal of teaching students how to set and achieve their own goals and aspirations and to grow into their role as a citizen of the world community.

Ben moved to Bali and Green School in January 2008, but his experience with international education began much earlier, when he was born in London to an Anglo-Irish father and an American mother. He grew up primarily in Washington D.C., but a year in Japan with his family at the age of nine began a life-long passion for Asia. Ben majored in Chinese Studies at the University of Michigan and spent terms in Beijing and Shanghai before receiving his Masters of Science in Teaching at the New School for Social Research in New York City. He has spent his career as a classroom teacher, an experiential educator, and in admissions, but he considers his small role in the development of Green School to be his proudest professional accomplishment. Prior to his role at Green School, Ben’s biggest claim to fame was as a three-time champion on the American television quiz show, “Jeopardy!”.

Oskee Wow-Wow, WA's beloved mascot, visited buildings around campus this morning to deliver Teacher Appreciation Certificates. The certificates, awarded at the request of seniors, honor those faculty members and staff who have made a difference in student lives. The seniors earned the certificates after making their first gifts to the Annual Fund. Colin is from South Africa, holds a Sports Science degree and teaching degree in Physical Education. He was PE teacher/Aquatics director for 5 years at an international School in Manila, Philippines prior to moving to Bali. Colin is currently the PE teacher and Sports co-ordinator at Green School and also director of ISSC(International Schools Surf Camp) where he also works closely with Green Camp. He has competed at swimming at national level and international level at surfing and surf lifesaving.

Alan Wagstaff’s Green School roots go all the way back to the beginning: his “Three Springs” document, in which he described a school-centered community with various cultural, entrepreneurial and environmental projects running through it was one of John and Cynthia’s inspirations to create the project, and Alan created the original Green School curriculum. (Three Springs)
Alan has had forty years experience as a primary and secondary school teacher, a special education teacher, a school principal, and for the last decade, as an independent consultant, mentor and school developer. He has worked at and advised schools in the U.K., New Zealand, Canada, Indonesia, and Australia. Over the last several years, Alan was contracted to Silkwood Education Services – an advisory arm of Silkwood School in Nerang, Queensland Australia – as the Director of Education and Development. Most recently he has also served as Learning Manager at Silkwood School itself.
Alan brings extensive experience in virtually every aspect of growing a healthy and vibrant school– a partial list includes the development of student-centered, holistic perspectives with policy formation, curriculum innovation in all key learning areas, parent education and liaison, behavior management, co-operative learning, student assessment, learning support, values education, literacy, numeracy, and all other academic subjects, health and physical education,teacher development, mentoring, appraisal, and lesson preparation, and facilitative school management.

Jan’s passion for traditional and contemporary Shona music began in 1982 as a student of the late ethnomusicologist Dr. Abraham Dumisani Maraire. Dividing her time between the role of a Seattle art director and an African music performer, she was able to tour extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada. She was the original founding member of Zimfest in 1991 which has become the largest annual gathering in North America of students, teachers, performers and fans of Zimbabwean music. Jan later based herself in Zanzibar, Tanzania for over 10 years where she spent five years working on the development of ZIFF: Zanzibar International Film Festival, East Africa’s premiere film and music festival. A woodworker at heart, Jan built the marimba ‘orchestral’ instruments we use at Green School. She is also a Green School parent of Isami and Eddy.
