A few years ago I made a video of Ann's 18th birthday party. Ann and her parents went throught some really though times during the last years. To celebrate that everything is going well again they threw another party. Ann and her friens might be handicapped but boy do they know how to party.
I photographed this party to thank those great kids and their supporting families for one of the best parties I've ever been to.
No well paid commercial job or drop dead gorgeous model shoot can compeed with this. This is what really counts.

I strongly (convince myself to) believe that professional photographers should take some time to play every now and then. We played around all the time when we where amateurs and that's what made us good enough to go pro anyway. So to become a better pro, I try to allow some time to play in my tight schedule.
A few months ago I got into a conversation between some like minded photographers and we decided to do some kind of fun shoot together. I actually didn't have the time but I went anyway. And I'm glad I did, because I came back with more energy and motivation.

Like almost every year for the past 10 years or so, my parents and our little family went for a ski holiday in Austria.
When I recentely borrowed an Ixus in Valencia because my gear was stolen, I realised I had to get a good compact camera myself, so I bought a Canon Ixus. It's far from as powerful as my DSLR's but because it fits in my pocket I can take it with me all the time. Great for some memories I wouldn't have captured otherwise.

Always fun to spend a day with a friend and fellow photographer. Jean brought his fantastic son Zoran and we all had great fun: indoor playground, go-carts, pancakes, Wii, ...

Noa turned 10 days, we've been married for 7 years and the family (on my mother's side) got together for a party. What I really liked is that so many members of the family got together. It's been several years since I saw some of them.

LIGHTING INFO:
A zoomed in SB24 behind the couple (camera left on the stairs), provided a little separation light. Triggered with PW's.

I have replaced my backup camera (that was stolen) with a 1Ds mkII. Because I never worked intensively with this camera befor, I took it on holliday to get used to it and play around.

As part of my workshop 'the Decisive Photographer', I did a one hour live shoot. I wanted to play it fair and didn't check the location or anything in advance. We just took a walk and stopped when we saw some good light, backgrounds, ... for portraits. Thanks to some of the people in the class for modelling.
This picture is part of the demonstration of my 'under cover' technique. This is based on the fact that the light usually gets a lot better when the subject stands under some cover . Here it was a garage and by having the subject stand about 1 meter in the garage, the light becomes more directional than in the open shade. So the open end of the garage becomes the main (natural) light.
To get some depth in the picture we've put a 580EXII flash behind the model on the wooden panel at very low power. This small ray of light gives some depth and a more natural look.

My son Kobe sometimes doesn't get the attention I'd like to give him. So once in while we take some time to do something fun with jus the guys
Kobe had been talking about fishing, so I asked one of my best friends Sven (aka Ponette) to take us fishing.
We spent the afternoon at a creek but didn't catch anything. But we took enough food for a nice bbq on the beach anyway. Sleeping in a tent on the beach was quite an adventure for Kobe. The three of us really enjoyed it.
Even more fun than the fishing was the fact that Sven took us on a heavy off-road track to the fishing spot in an old 4x4

2007 may 5, Zaventem (Belgium), School party
Every year this school (Zavo) organises a big party/show starring all the kids and teachers and staff. This year the theme was 'the wrong party', meaning that they used music, costumes etc. that you should like if you want to be in fashion.

Today I was inspired for my 27th image by the fact that in public places people are supposed to be wearing masks. When I went to pick up my 'click and collect' from Tesco I was amazed by people not doing so! I then thought there is not a record in my pictures of me wearing a mask. Now there is! And also this Version 2.
Today I'm using the Fujifilm Classic Chrome simulation.
I was inspired to do this challenge by #bertstephani in June 2020 I have again accepted the same challenge.

The incredibly fun wedding of Sara en Kristof
I used to shoot quite a lot of weddings but these days I limit myself to 10 weddings a year. I would be better off shooting a corporate or commercial assignment on those days but I just love shooting fun weddings too much to stop doing it.

We did this series of pictures in an old factory near Aalst. I'm not used to shooting strobist-style so this can hopefully get you over your fear to just try it & be amazed by the results you can get using only 1 off-camera flash.

Due to very busy schedules on both sides I couldn't do this engagement session until 3 days prior to the actual wedding. The couple were dealing with some organisational stuff so the session was cut short to less than an hour of actual shooting while the daylight was fading very quickly.
We still managed to pull some shots off and more importantly: we had fun and got to know each other a bit better.
