The hike starts at Eigergletscher Station and ends 2 to 3 hours later at Alpiglen Station (or the other way round). The trail leads directly underneath the iconic north face of Eiger. A great experience. I can highly recommend this hike!

What a gorgeous day! The view of the wonderful panorama changed continuously with the fog. We enjoyed the peaceful silence and the feeling of freedom - such days should never end...

Staubbach Fall
" The Staubbach Fall (German: Staubbachfall (sing.), lit.: dust creek fall) is a waterfall in Switzerland, located just west above Lauterbrunnen in the Bernese Highlands. The waterfall drops 297 metres (974 ft) from a hanging valley that ends in overhanging cliffs above the Weisse Lütschine.
The stream, on reaching the verge of the rocky walls of the valley, forms a cascade so high that it is almost lost in spray before it reaches the level of the valley. After rain, and early in the season when fed by the melting snows, the Staubbach Fall is a very striking object. The force of the stream above the fall at such times is sufficient to carry the water clear of the precipice, and the whole mass descends in a condition of liquid dust, between spray and cloud, that sways to-and-fro with the gentlest breeze. In a dry summer, when the supply of water is much reduced, the effect is comparatively insignificant.
The falls were featured on the Swiss 3-centime postage stamp of the 1930s.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was inspired in 1779 on his second trip to Switzerland from Staubbachfall and wrote there his song of the spirits over the waters [2] :

On a beautiful day in March I made a snow hike from the First (above Grindelwald) to Bachalpsee, but of course the mountain lake was not visible. It was frozen and full of snowdrifts. But the view from there to the opposite Alps with the Finsteraarhorn was just fantastic!
An einem wunderschönen Tag im März machte ich eine Schneewanderung von der First (ob Grindelwald) zum Bachalpsee, wobei der Bergsee natürlich nicht sichtbar war. Der war zugefroren und vollen Schneeverwehungen. Doch die Sicht von dort auf die gegenüberliegenen Alpen mit dem Finsteraarhorn war einfach fantastisch!

Am Morgen der Abreise in die Ferien hätte ich eigentlich anderes vor als raus zu gehen und die Heimatumgebung zu fotografieren. Dann sowas! Reinste Provokation! Da musste ich wohl oder übel zwischen fertig Packen und Reisevorbereitung den Fotorucksack nochmal öffnen und leicht gestresst draussen herumhetzen.

Schon gegen Abend; der Nebel verzieht sich und hinterlässt angehauchte Tannenspitzen.
Wenn andere joggen gehen, trage ich mein Fotomaterial hierhin: 2-300 Höhenmeter in einer knappen halben Stunde und manchmal lohnt es sich dann auch, ein Bild zu schiessen. Und wenn nicht, macht es auch nichts.
