WIth a new hot box detector in front of them, we were worried that it was going to ruin the famous shot at Bernal. That was fortunately not the case, and after making their stop at Las Vegas, the Amtrak Southwest Chief splits the blades at Bernal as they head for their next stop at Lamy and meet their eastbound counterpart.

After changing crews in Las Vegas (New Mexico) Amtrak #3 continues its journey toward Los Angeles as it splits the Semaphores at Bernal. Personally, I like this style of semaphore a lot more. The white painted strip on the blade is a lot more fitting than a blank piece of wood.
