The most remarkable thing about the Castle is that for nine centuries, the building, the Berkeley family, the archives (which go back to 1117), the contents, the estate and the town have all survived together.
Its place in history is significant, not just because it is still intact, but because the Berkeley family and their home have played an important part in the power struggles of so many centuries
This garden in Berkeley on Claremont Avenue is such mix of unexpected things in one garden. I wish I knew who the garden designer for this is, I expect the garden is at least 20 years old now, and contains a large assortment of lesser seen accents plants in local gardens. The Butia capitata with the Japanese Maple in fall foliage color, the large Dasylrion quadrangulata, the massive trunks of the Queen palms, and that London phone booth. A really fun garden...
