The sign and the scene seemed a great frame so I just stood there leaning against a wall with my TLR and waiting. This came out very well with the girl removing her face-mask I think. I find this style of photography quite creepy to honest, that's reflected a little bit with this photo not being as sharp as it might be with me being uncomfortable.

When I was planning for my third trip to Saskatchewan, I had my eyes in some of the Ukrainian churches. Most of them are located north and around the Saskatoon and Regina area.

This is "The Church of St. John The Baptist". One of two Ukrainian churches in Smuts.

This church was built in 1905. It was destroyed by fire in 1925; in 1926 the second church was constructed on the same site which was reduced to ten acres as five acres were released by the parishioners for the construction of a Ukrainian Greek Orthodox church. In 1954, for practical reasons, the church was relocated on a half acre site in westerly Smuts.

Photo of the other church coming later.

This photo was taken with my Mamiya 7ii and Bergger Pancro. As you probarbly have noticed already, this photo is overexposed (like WAAAAAY overexposed). When I first saw it, I thought "yuk!!". Did not think much of it untill I revisited it (the photo), a couple of weeks later.

Here's was happened. I shoot a roll with Ferrania at ISO50 (prior to this roll), and forgot the change the ISO in my camera. Shoot a few photos before noticing. I know this look might be a huge turnoff for many..... but I totally love this look, for this photo. Also credit for my beloved Bergger for not blowing those highlights to "pieces".

This abandoned car in the ghost town of Neidpath has been photographed a lot over the years. Neidpath is a "must visit". Think I "blew" 5 rolls of film while I was here. I was stunned by how quit and peaceful it was.

The community flourished in the 1920s with a peak population of around 100 in 1928. The decline startet in the late 1930's.

Today, the hamlet retains remnants of its past, with a handful of empty houses, crumbling foundations, a small church, and two old grain elevators standing as witnesses to its history.

I went back to Neidpath to shot some extra photos for my upcoming book, "My Saskatchewan"

..... wow, wow, woow, hold on there mate!! A book you said? Yeah? What on earth makes you believe someone wants to even touch that sh**t (the book)? Or, even buy it!?!!

First of, its gonna be free. Did you think I would charge someone for this!?! It won't raise any eyebrows, that for sure. In the end, it might turn out to be the most expensive toiletpaper. But I'm gonna do it anyway.

I will visit Saskatchewan again (for the third time) in august, to finish my book and project. Cheers Jonny

Horizon is one of the most visited ghost towns in the province. During the summer the train comes here. The hamlet of Horizon was formed in 1912. This little village ones had 57 residents (1917).

Shoot this with Bergger Pancro and my Mamiya 7ii. The light was so flat, it looked liked it was rolled over by a steamroller. But I kinda like it anyway. Will be traveling to Saskatchewan again later this week. Maybe I will have another visit. Cheers, Jonny

Yeah, I shoot about 300 rolls with my Mamiya 7ii since it was gifted to me by imaginary santa nearly 3 years ago. The gift also included the 135 mm adapter kit and the 43mm and the 150mm lenses. On christmas eve I opened the package. There she was, my Isabella (aka the Mamiya 7ii).

So, what do I think about the Mamiya... after 300 rolls with film?

I can summarize my experience with two words; WAAAAY OVERRATED!!!!

I really thought this camera would make me a better photographer. But the fact is; I have only about 1-3% "success" rate or "keepers" since I've starting making photos with it. That is about one good photo or keeper for every 3 rolls I shoot. I have no problem to admit I'm not worthy of a Mamiya 7.

It's like giving a formula one car to a blind guy.

A couple of months after I got the camera, I went to Venice. I remember the first night. I was out taking night photos. A couple of german dudes came up to me asking if I was shooting with the Mamiya 7? I proudly said; yeeees! One of them followed up by asking how long I been doing analog photography. I politely replied I've been doing film for about a year. They both rolled their eyes in disbelief. And, went off without sayin one more word.

The few photos I even think is "good", peoples have questioned. A while ago I posted a night photo (long exposure) from Venice. I REALLY thought this was my moment to shine on Flickr. The photo started well after I posted it. Then, a russian guy commented the photo. Saying that my exposure was way of, that the highlights was blown away and poorly executed. After that comment, the photo "died" faster than the speed of light.

Not even one more like. Flickr users sure read the comments, and thats a good thing. The day after I went to my archives,

to check the negative. Scanned the photo numerous times. I found nothing wrong with it. The negative was perfect. It was developed with stand development. So I even had more latitude to work with. I deleted the comment. The guy commenting has over 8000 followers, so he was probarbly right. I indeed think my photos is actually better than they actually are, so I use the hastag #shittyphotograper on ocations just to remind myself.

Note; I posted the photo in the comment section. I really like to know what is wrong with this photo. So I can learn from my mistakes, and avoid this in my future work/posts. Used a diffusion filter (not a fan of sunstars in my photos). Also, shot this at f/11 to retain as much shadow details as possible. Maybe that's why this might look overexposed, overdeveloped etc.) I don't know....

The lenses;

Like I said, I was gifted this camera with the 80, 43 & 150mm lenses. I read a lot of reviews sayin' these lenses has exellent micro-contrast. I have no idea what that is, so I'm not going to bother you with those details. Some complain with focus issues with the 150mm lens. I have no problem with mine.

My Isabella deserves better, no doubt about that. But we are slowly getting along. The goal for 2026 is a 4-5% keepers or "hit-rate". Maybe I'm reaching for the sky here.

Despite my serious "lack of bangers for likes" issues with my Mamiya 7ii, it feels like I scored the hottest "chick" at the prom, every time I load her (the camera) with film (howdy Bergger Pancro).

Thanks for reading this "not so in-depth review" of the Mamiya 7ii.

Cheers, Jonny

I dropped off my car at the airport in the afternoon. The dude from the rental company checked my car.... said, "hey, you drove 4000 kilometers in ten days!!!". I replied... "yeah, a man cant just sit around".

Took a taxi to a hotel close to the airport. Pretty "gaxed", but in a good mood. Think I shoot around 60 rolls of film.

From the hotel room I saw the Winnipeg skyline, thinking, wow, that could be fun. Did not have clue about where to go, but a quick google search recommended The Exchange District for photos in Winnipeg. And oh boy did I NOT regret shooting a couple of more films.

Crazy cool district with loads of possibilities for "city bangers". I was not feeling very creative, but managed to squeeze out a couple of good ones (personal opinion), before I went back home the morning after.
