115 Pictures in 2015-81. Feel the Heat
Forgive the artificial flower but we had none at home & the garden is dead
WIT - It's a miserable dull day. Put wineglass in front of fireplace & took picture. In PS. duplicated layer & used soft blend mode to bring out the blacks & shadows. I washed that glass before. but forgot about fingerprints when handling it! duh!
A break from country houses and back to Goodwood which appears to be my default setting on Flickr :)
The #FlickrFriday #BePositive challenge
Beekeepers have been reporting declines in bee numbers since the 1990s. That should be a concern in itself but even taking a selfish homo-centric view, Greenpeace observes pollinating insects are vital to our agriculture providing services which are estimated to be worth around £300 billion per year. Put another way, one third of our global food production depends on pollinating insects. If they didn't pollinate, we'd have to.
This goes beyond bees. The National Geographic reported German research demonstrating a 75% drop in insect biomass in 63 protected sites over 27 years. If those sites are protected one wonders how there can be any insects left at all in non protected ones.
So, what's the cause? It's the usual suspect of course. Us. Friends of The Earth note that since 1945 the UK has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows where pollinators used to forage. These have often been replaced by miles and miles of moncculture with hedgerows ripped out to make even more room for us, and fewer nesting and refuge sites for all sorts of creatures. Climate change appears to be disrupting breeding by, for example, promoting flower (ie nectar and pollen) growth earlier in the year before the bees are ready. The use of insecticides continue to impact on pollinators and indeed many other insects. Even sub lethal levels may affect behaviour, for example bees' abilities in navigation. Resistance to disease may also be reduced. All this and more impacts on the wider animal kingdom. For example the UK's swifts, swallows and house martins have also declined in recent years. They live mainly on the wing and nest in inaccessible places so the oft blamed domestic cat can have no impact on their numbers whatsoever. These birds are solely insectivores. Go figure.
So what can we do? We can either do nothing (bee negative) or we can bee positive. This photo shows a white tailed bumble bee on raspberry flowers on a bush planted in a small raised bed directly outside our home. The bees like it and it provides us with a splash of colour in early spring. Alternatively, wildflower seeds are easily available, as are various herbs and attractive plants; our experience indicates that lavender is popular. Nesting sites are easy to create and take up little room. Indeed a relaxed approach to gardening (gardens don't have to be too tidy and mine certainly isn't!) can be rewarded with a greater diversity of all sorts of insects (and animals and birds which may prey upon them) with more leisure time to observe them. Taken together the area of the UK's private gardens exceeds that of our nature reserves.
The photo was taken as shown using a 20mm extension tube to allow me to get in close. The white background is my window frame.
Day 70 - March 11, 2010
Words are sometimes not enough to describe one's thoughts and emotions. That's why I am thankful that I can turn to photography as my outlet.
Today, amidst a sea of emotions, instead of trying to make sense of each one, I've decided to focus my energies on trying to stay positive.
PHOTO NOTES: Special thanks to my sister Dorothy for creating this plus-shaped bokeh filter for me. Taped the filter to my lens then shot this from my "bokeh balcony". Exposure set to 1.6 seconds, camera panned from left to right.
The cornoa virus has caused chaos and suffering to so many and hopefully things will get better soon. For me it's meant no trips to Asia this year and an increase in video calling. The one side benefit is I'm able to spend more time at home (yay!) and more time doing day trips to visit clients here in Europe.
While day trips are fun, the one thing that is always, always, always brutal is the morning trip to the airport. Bad sleep, alarm, shower, stagger, taxi, airport, breakfast, flight, taxi, visit, meet, talk, be positive, taxi, airport, food, plane, squashed into a seat next to some gi-nourmous fella, listen to music, watch the sky, land, train, walk, front door, home, greetings, wine.
Today I'll try something different.
I'm going to upload, what is my take on something many people have a hard time talking about.
The elephant in the room, in a world of perfection if you will.
This is my take, on a visual depression and Anxiety.
Depression and Anxiety comes with many faces, and can be hard to spot.
Many people dares to go far, before they realise, help is needed.
And sometimes too far.
I write this because I've seen it up close.
I know how hard it can be as a relative but i can't imagine how hard it is for the one in the middle struggling.
Help is something that can be difficult to ask for, especially if it's hard needed,
so this is my call out to the world.
We can't do everything perfectly, and removing anxiety or depression isn't a possibility BUT. . .
The one thing we all can do better, is to be more positive, be kind to each other, help out when needed,
and maybe even before asked.
Let people in your life know, that you love them, that you are there for them
and they matter. !
A positive act, spreads like a virus, but a good one
- the same goes for a negative one,
so which one do you choose. ?
Let's do some random positive acts of kindness.
Thank you so much, for those who read this, act on this and help spread the word.
Feel free to spread the word,
or let it inspire you to make you own,
like I was inspired to do this.
I wish you all a wonderful and lovely Christmas

288/365 Be positive.
In early June I decided to be more positive, I thought look at the good side of things, to change what I didn't like in my life and above all, stop being negative. and I got it. Now enjoy more each time, when I have a problem always look at the advantages and how can solve it. And I'm much more happy. Have a good day/night.

Chika was a good leader to her school idol group because she stayed positive and focused on her goal.

The Pen. Does not need to be plugged into the mains to get it to work, does not need an app to function, just needs to be picked up... and used. Make more use of the pen... and Be Positive about it.

Used this picture for my exam painting, it became a very personal picture with a lot symbolism.
