“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.” – Brené Brown
This is another shot from my time in Big Bend National Park in Texas. This is sunset at one of the many rock formations in the park along the scenic drive down to Santa Elena Canyon. I believe the light grey hills are actually ancient volcanic ash. The dark colored rocks scattered about the hills really made for some interesting contrast at this location.
Nikon Z 7 with NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8 lens and FTZ adapter @ 14mm, ISO 64, f/11, various shutter speeds. I focus stacked 4 images for depth of field, and 1 of those and another shot were for dynamic range in the sky, for a total of 5 exposures. Three shots at 1 second, one shot at .4 second, and another at 1/6th second.

Commissioned quilt, designed by the customer. We made the quilt without the red, then sliced the quilt top to insert the red. No rulers used in the making of this quilt. FUN!
Bend in Collins Creek as it makes it way downstream to the Little Red River...
Collins Creek, near Greers Ferry Lake and Heber Springs, Arkansas.
Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park. This was taken in September 2009 just after I left :(
Thanks Jeff for taking it... beautiful :)
An alternate view of Horseshoe Bend from Lookout Point near Page, Arizona. It's a 1,000 foot drop from here to the Colorado River below.
To find this place on the outskirts of Page, Arizona, head south for a bit and park on the right next to the 20 tour buses. Then foot it westward for 1/2 mile and mind your step when you reach the really big drop off.
After several visits here over several years, this is the only time the sky placed nice.
Moving sculpture by Janet Echelman on the Pier in Saint Petersburg, Florida. The site of this installation marks the place where local citizens began to peacefully challenge racial barriers, leading to the 1957 Supreme Court case ruling which upheld the rights of all citizens to enjoy the use of the municipal beach and swimming pool without discrimination. The title, "Bending Arc" refers to the words of Martin Luther King, "...the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
Deceptive for those not so familiar with the game of poker...

My son John is in the yellow hat.
John found the sport of rowing after many years of soccer. He fell in love with the sport. It was one of the best sports he could have chosen for building himself and his self confidence. The initiative and drive resulted in his excelling in athletics as well as academics and receiving a full ride scholarship to East Tennessee State University where he is completing his second year in Pre-Med. I would highly recommend rowing to anyone who has access to water and a team.

Shot with an A7Rii on a recent trip to the US South West, Horseshoe Bend never fails to impress. This was shot mid morning in order to get good light on the canyon walls. Sitting within a foot of a 1000 Foot drop was a little bit nerve wracking. I waited for boat traffic to enter the bend on the Colorado river below. You can just see the small canoes at the bottom of the image which adds the Human scale to the overall picture. Thanks for looking.
A path through Eola Bend, a county park attached to Minto Brown Island Park. Taken with a Vivitar 28mm f/2.0 Close Focus (by Komine).
Auch wenn der Aussichtspunkt mit Blick auf den Horseshoe Bend unglaublich überlaufen ist, lohnt sich der kleine Abstecher im Rahmen einer größeren Tagestour aufgrund des spektakulären Ausblicks!

Even though the Horseshoe Bend viewpoint is incredibly crowded, the short detour as part of a longer day trip is worth it because of the spectacular view!
My second image for today is Horse Shoe Bend, Just outside of Page, Arizona. This is a spectacular location easily accessible with a short hike from U.S route 89. It takes its name from the horse shoe shaped bend in the Colorado river, the same river that carved the Grand Canyon. You can stand right at the edge with a 1000 foot drop. If you are planing to photograph this location, make sure to bring a very wide angle lens.

Beautiful sunset clouds over the famous Horseshoe Bend, a meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. It is located 5 miles (8.0 km) downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Page.
Heavy on the fisheye...guilty! Sorry, I knew going into DC that I would lean towards the fisheye a lot. I just so badly want to shoot something that's original. I don't want just another snapshot of something that gets shot so much.
I am new to a round fisheye. I had a full frame before, but I wanted to try the serious distortion of an 8mm. I did not think I would ever post an actual round image. I usually crop them to just use the middle, but in this case, I could not help myself. I know I have a few more form this trip too that I will want to post round. I tried to crop in on this one and it just lost so much of the interesting detail. I just could not do it.
This is taken on the front of the Supreme Court in DC. See the Capitol in the the distance there? Yes, its small, but this is an 8mm, it doesn't exactly compress the image. I had this image in mind all along, those tall ionic columns, (or are they Doric columns?) just scream for it.
Now I try to keep the photo stream as high quality as I can, and I am still not sure if round images are 'pro' enough. Please let me know what you think. I need to gauge how many more of these suckers to post.

Behind the scenes portrait shoot. My cohort was shooting tethered. I thought it made for a great BTS shot.

Whelp, we have returned home after a successful epic adventure! So much processing to do, but I want to get right back on the ball of at-least-daily photo posting. We briefly visited the Hoover Dam at the beginning of our trip (July 5), and this is from the Memorial Bridge, overlooking the dam and the bendy road.
