Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the British Isles. Standing at 1,345 metres (4,411 ft) above sea level, it is at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands, close to the town of Fort William.
The mountain is a popular destination, attracting an estimated 100,000 ascents a year, around three-quarters of which use the Pony Track from Glen Nevis. The 700-metre (2,300 ft) cliffs of the north face are among the highest in Scotland, providing classic scrambles and rock climbs of all difficulties for climbers and mountaineers. They are also the principal locations in Scotland for ice climbing.
The summit, which is the collapsed dome of an ancient volcano, features the ruins of an observatory which was continuously staffed between 1883 and 1904. The meteorological data collected during this period are still important for understanding Scottish mountain weather. C. T. R. Wilson was inspired to invent the cloud chamber after a period spent working at the observatory.

Composite of a street shot, this guy was walking through Glasgow green a few years back so I’ve decided now was the time to edit. Since posting he’s now been in touch Ben Hamilton of Glasgow.
We were on a bike trail down in the river valley. No people around so we let them loose for a bit. Sam is crazy fast and the light was just incredible. My focus was good on this one. Pretty much straight out of camera with a small crop. (I am grateful a biker did not come around the corner.)

Ben Rinnes is the dominating summit of Moray and is a very popular hillwalk. The views, as might be expected, are extremely extensive, taking in much of northeast Scotland.
We arrived in Callander this afternoon but were itching to get up high. Well we didn't have too long so Ben A'an fit the bill perfectly. It took us around 45 minutes to get up to the top from the car park and we withstood very heavy winds with rain and then sleet thrashing us until we couldn't take it anymore. Fortunately we managed to shoot this one and it turned out okay.
Just before the sun would begin to slip below the mountains, Westbound van train 21J swings around a curve and under the Pennsy signal bridge at PC6.6 in Ben Avon, Pennsylvania as the train's crew works the final few miles of their run to Conway. There, the train will change crews for its nighttime run west to Toledo and eventually Chicago. This fan favorite signal bridge is one of only a handful left on the Pennsy's mainline between Conway and Harrisburg and will unfortunately fall to progress on Sunday.
Ben lost his Dad when he was 10, this was just over a year later on a trip to a trout farm. So difficult to appreciate how a huge loss at that early age feels like.
Ben Hope with early morning cloud streaming away on a westerly wind, as seen from Moine House.
Ben Hope is the most northerly of the Munros - Scottish Mountains over 3000 feet (914.4 Metres) high - and is not far from the northerly coast of Sutherland. On this day a westerly wind was carrying moist air from the sea, and this condensed as it hit the slopes of the mountain causing the cloud stream.
The Moine is a vast area of heather moor and peat bog which from ancient times has been a barrier to transport and trade. The first good road across The Moine was built in 1830, and Moine House was built as a half-way stop. The house was abandoned some 60 or 70 years later.

This is what we came home to.
Ben loves the cooler weather and the first snow.
Us, not so much, at first.
Happy Thanksgiving !

Ben More, Crianlarich, Scotland
Ben More (Scottish Gaelic: A' Bheinn Mhòr, meaning "the great mountain") is a mountain in the southern Highlands of Scotland, near Crianlarich. It is the highest of the so-called Crianlarich Hills to the south-east of the village, and there is no higher land in the British Isles south of Ben More. It is separated from Stob Binnein by the Bealach-eadar-dha Beinn, meaning "col between two hills".
The simplest ascent starts from Benmore Farm on the A85. Initially one should follow the path leading up Benmore Burn, before leaving this path and heading up the northwest ridge of Ben More. The ridge is unrelentingly steep, rising 1,000 metres (3,281 ft) in about 2.5 miles (4.0 km). The north-east ridge may prove a preferable alternative, being craggier and less steep. To reach this the walker should follow the burn of Allt Coire Chaorach, before striking for the ridge of Sròn nam Fòirsairean once clear of the forestry that cloaks the lower slopes of this side of Ben More. This route is around 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) long.
Ben More is often climbed in conjunction with Stob Binnein by descending to the Bealach-eadar-dha Beinn and then on to the second peak. Descent may be made from the col direct to Benmore Burn.
Ben More's north side contains a long-lasting snow patch, which – uniquely in the Southern Highlands – is named on a 1:25000 Ordnance Survey map, and is called the Cuidhe Chrom (crooked wreath), on account of the shape it forms in late spring/early summer. This patch frequently lasts until well into June and sometimes July. The similar name Cuidhe Cròm appears as a summit near Lochnagar.

we've been pulling in the timber Rob coppiced a few years ago this last week, as its ready to log. And the pups have been free in the yard. They love scratching around in the heat of the now mountainous wood chip pile.

Ben More on the Isle of Mull. This is the view we see every day from the cottage we have rented, admittedly the weather hasn't always been like this but for our first week it was.
Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London, and often extended to refer to the clock and the clock tower. The tower is officially known as Elizabeth Tower, renamed as such to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II. The tower holds the second largest four-faced chiming clock in the world. The tower was completed in 1858 and had its 150th anniversary on 31 May 2009, during which celebratory events took place. The tower has become one of the most prominent symbols of the United Kingdom and is often in the establishing shot of films set in London.
