Like royalty on its throne, this Bald Eagle towered over its loyal subjects, the photographers who trudged through the snow and arctic temperatures to snap a shot in adoration of the noble bird.
*****
There were a pair of Bald Eagles atop a very tall, leafless tree at Belle Isle, a park in the Detroit River. Seeing them was a perfect ending to the outing, on a rare, sunny and cloudless day!

Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus axillaris) female
When I arrived at Sneydes Rd yesterday neither Belle nor Bronson were around, despite there being a partly built new nest. As I turned to leave I heard the familiar call and turned to see Belle arriving.

Belle and Bronson were both busy feeding the chicks . Bell took time to rest and preen.

Black-shouldered Kite (Elanus axillaris) female
David J www.flickr.com/photos/birdsaspoetry had recently tipped me off that Belle and Bronson had a nest on the go, at the other end of the disused section of Sneydes Rd. That was the main reason for my wander today. At first I couldn't locate them but heard the squawk of a juvenile so waited a while. Bronson had been out hunting and brought back a mouse for Belle. She then went to a tree near the nest site to dine. You can see she is holding the mouse here.

Both Belle and Bronson were around Sneydes Rd. today. I also heard one call of a juvenile but didn't see it.
Yes, I like kids movies. What can I say? I'm a kid at heart.
