The Brexit referendum and the election of US President Donald Trump sparked widespread interest in the role of facts in political and policy debate, both among the behaviour of traditional political actors and the proliferation of information sources online.
But concern about unreality in politics and public life existed before 2016. So how big is the problem really? And is there anything to be done to turn back the tide?
To discuss this, the Institute for Government was pleased to welcome Evan Davis, BBC presenter, economist and author of Post-Truth: Why We Have Reached Peak Bullshit and What We Can Do About It.
Evan was joined by Will Moy, Director of Full Fact, which ran a Facebook and Google-backed fact-checking and verification campaign during the General Election.
The event was chaired by Jill Rutter, Programme Director at the Institute for Government.

Mandy is an idiot. Infact she’s a right nob, but she’s hilarious and adorable so that makes it ok. Sometimes horrible thing’s happen to the nobbiest of people. When faced with her own mortality, how does she cope? She laughs into the cleavage of cancer....because laughter really is the breast medicine.
Mandy debuted in stand-up back in 2014 at The Women in Comedy Festival and she has been making people spit their drinks out with laughter ever since. Now Mandy brings her debut solo show to MCR Fringe. Here are some lovely things the audience have said about her Twin Peaks....
"Buckle up for a journey through twin peaks- a rollercoaster of a show that is emotional, educational, entertaining and totally unmissable! Take tissues, wear Tena, prepare to laugh at the taboo but don't miss this amazing show"
"A fantastic debut show, from laughing to crying and laughing again it was hilarious, honest and very heartfelt. It was a privilege to be part of your audience this evening."
"An extremely witty, well written piece that touched me deeply"
WARNING: This show contains oversharing, inappropriate behaviour and references to breast cancer.
Some of the ticket sales will go to Macclesfield Cancer Resource Centre.

Good job I took a photo out of the kitchen window this morning otherwise I might not have had a photo for today. This scoundrel is burying lots of nuts in my plant pots.

DID TINTIN REALLY WANT TO GO TO THE MOON ? Some say he had second thoughts and didn't want to go. Apparently he didn't trust much professor Calculus' project and especially didn't trust the rocket. He didn't believe that such a contraption could bring him to the moon and back safely.

Stummbled on these 3 hares in a field and had a great couple of hours filming and photgraphing these guys.
The Gilly suit was on for this as I didn't know how tolerant they would be of me. ISO was between 500-800 and F stop 4 - 5.6 on AV
