Fledgeling Great Spotted Woodpecker [Dendrocopos major]

This little beauty is about 23/24 days old. He (?) fledged yesterday so his parents will be feeding him for the next ten days, then he’s on his own.

Here, he was squawking to be fed, as his father came and went with tasty morsels for him.

I think there are two nests near The Pixies, (where I feed the birds: a mile down the hill from my house, in the woods, next to the stream), as I’ve seen two different females. So far, I’ve seen three fledgelings, only one of which has been feeding himself, intermittently, while the parents take turns at feeding all of them, whilst still tending the others in their nests.

A great joy to watch these beautiful young birds.

I'm just a beginner when it comes to watching and photographing birds. So it was a pleasure to see and photograph my first Bluethroat in the nature reserve close to my home, where I come so often. It was early morning, the sunlight was quite strong. And as often with reed birds, they don't always sit in the perfect position for the picture. But that's allright, they have to straighten their priorities ;) Anyhow, strong sunlight on the left side of the bird and a lot of shadow (which I took away a bit with LRC) on the right side. A classic, the Bluethroat sitting on a reed plume.

Nothing we can't shake

Though we're absolute beginners

We've nothing much at stake

As long as you're still smiling

There's nothing more I need

I absolutely love you

But we're absolute beginners

Well if my love is your love

We're certain to succeed..."

The SNCB/NMBS/B-Logistics Alstom HLE 13 is one of my favourite locs and this is my first photo of it. With the luck of a beginner, I was gifted with a spotless clean 1333 and from the elevated spot, I could see the red roof and white pantographs - very much like when the loc has left the factory. The freight train has been routed via the famous spot place in Hennuyeres by exception on this Saturday afternoon.

from suzuki roshi: "in the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few." i'm trying to view the world with beginner's mind.

sometimes in life we have to wait. for texts, people, moments or just summer. sometimes these things need quite a short time to happen, sometimes they take more time. and sometimes these things will probably never happen.

Shoshin is a concept from Zen Buddhism meaning beginner's mind. It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying, even at an advanced level, just as a beginner would

An introduction to using Slow Shutter Speeds

You'll learn to use slower shutter speeds such as 1 sec or lower. You can use Neutral Density filters if you wish but they aren't necessary. As we can explore small apertures, all levels of knowledge welcome from beginners to more advanced.

This part of the Seafront has lots to offer, with Sea defences, cliffs and Rock formations. Plus at low tides an abundance of rock pools. The time of the workshop tide times start at low tide and will end with a high tide giving us plenty of time to explore.

There is a cafe nearby for us to stop for lunch, we can then share and discuss our images.

My finger mistakenly touched the shutter when I checked the monitor. It's clear I still have a lot to learn about using my new camera, there are so many buttons and functions that I don't even know exist.

I had an incredible first visit to this falls on the Sonoma Coast. High flow, huge crashing waves, and an epic stormy #escaype forecasted sunset.

My one gripe with this amazing scene is that most comps I'd seen felt a bit right-heavy. I initially posted a comp with a sunstar and light on the left side, and here is one with the falls centered and the colors a bit more subdued. Probably not everyone's cup of tea in a world dictated by epic, but I wanted to share it regardless.

Greetings from Norway -- we have a little less than one more week out here and then I'll be back in the Bay. Keep rockin' it with epic snow and storm shots!
