Beeswax is a physiological product of the honeybee produced by glands under the abdomen. When gorged with honey and without comb to receive it, the workers cluster closely together, raising the temperature to the region of 90F. Within twenty-four hours wax scales begin to form.

raw beeswax. the smell is incredible, much more fragrant and sweet than the filtered wax that's normally found in the markets. it's the only beeswax i'll use from now on.

I entered a swap where entrants had to list their preferred 10 themes or styles, which the sender could choose from. On Krazychef's list was mermaids.

I used beeswax to attach the netting (fruit bag painted with green acrylic), shells and seed beads.

The merriam-webster dictionary defines head scratching as pondering or puzzling over something difficult to understand. This was and still is an empty catch box. I was away for a week, came home and found this. No bees just new white honeycomb had been built on the underside of the cover.

They are siblings and are 9 years old. WHERE has the time gone? We just love these handsome boys.

A sizeable bracket fungus attached to a tree base which we saw as we walked around the Hannah Peschar sculpture garden.

Once part of a large estate laid out c1915, it was later split into lots, leaving the C15th Grade II listed Black and White Cottage with 10 acres of land, a large water feature and rock garden. It fell into decline after it was sold, but has now been redesigned and replanted c1985, thanks to Hannah Peschar the then owner. She opened it up as a sculpture garden exhibiting up to 200 sculptures annually. Although she has since died, the garden remains.

The aim of the garden has always been to show the relationship between art and nature. "Neither one outshines the other: every piece is placed in harmony with its surroundings to create an amazing synergy within the environment".

in its purest form :-)

Honey bees are flying insects known for their role in pollination and for producing honey and beeswax. There are nearly 20,000 known species of bees. They are found on every continent except Antarctica, and in every habitat on the planet that contains insect-pollinated flowering plants.

Honey bees collect pollen to provide provisions for their young. Their hind legs bear pollen baskets, flattened sections with incurving hairs to secure the collected pollen, which you can clearly see in this photograph.

I may have a go at making candles.

this is from the wax cappings left over from the approx. 250 lbs (approx. 115kg) of honey that I have extracted this year.

it has just been melted over water so hasnt been filtered to clean it.

This is an original painting 18" x 24" done in beeswax encaustic.

Beeswax makes pretty patterns as it solidifies after cleaning.
