getting bed bug bites from shorts fresh out of the dryer totally traumatized me. i think I'm afraid of clothing now. later this night some bites manifested and i flipped out that i had brought bed bugs into david's house. he woke up to find me naked in the hall outside his apartment door bagging my clothes. i burst into tears and downloaded adium just to find maciej and beg him for advice. maciej was traumatized by bugs a year ago and went on a rampage, even started an important resource, bedbugregistry.com. thank fracking god he told me bedbug bites can take up to 5 days to manifest and they were most likely bites from the LA house. i had only googled how to kill the horrible things, not about the bites. maciej calmed me down enough so i stopped freezing naked and being scared of the pillow. i went to bedbugger flickr set to see bite pix and ended up just crying while reading about people's horrible ordeals. i also discovered from that flickr set that the very block i moved to in SF is apparently grand central for bed bugs. my live-in manager there is a super star and it's spotless. cross my fingers they don't make it to my unit anytime soon.
update: if they do who cares. i'm out of there. you don't NEED anything in life but your ID, bank cards, and healthy unbitten skin.
update: reading up, it's entirely standard for bed bug victims to run naked out of the apartment every time they get a flea bite or find a speck of lint. i'm normal! ha ha.
Two weeks after moving into my apartment I woke up with over 200 bites on my left arm from the finger tips to my elbow. Many of the bites were on the joints of my fingers and it was more than 3 weeks before I could hold a pen. It would take 3 months before I'd get my drawing skills back.
After my apartment was sprayed I never had a problem again (moved out Jan 30 2011) but my former building is still notorious for bedbugs as this website I found shows:
