Gratitude Day 10/30
I'm grateful for another day....to love, to live, to smile, to laugh...to act like a fool.
Spotted this photo op as I was looking down into the dregs of my breakfast OJ this morning.
Macro-Takumar 50mm f4 Macro
In celebration of man's modern achievement. During Earth Hour 2009, I turned on every light in my house. Both of my cars are idle. A ball of 6 strains of 100 professional outdoor Christmas lights hooked together with 6 balls of 100 lights each surrounding it. To top it off, a 600 watt halogen light pointing at the front door.
Sorry, it isn't as good as I want. I should have exposed another .5 or 1 stop.
It burnnnnnnnnzzzz! Yup, I do it for money and my friends. "I'm here all week, try the veal".
Part of the "Things I Put On My Head" series.
Enjoying an early spring afternoon at Sizewell , Waiting for the posssible explosion of the 500kg wartime bomb at felixstowe , But apparently delayed until 23/04/08
I don't worry about me. but I think the neighbors might (a little anyway.)
Strobist: Subject lit with ambient light. 1 Bare strobe on the background to blow it out and provide some edge light, triggered wirelessly.
ETA There was a shot in the series that captured a wasp traversing the frame. It was a purely random thing. I didn't even know it until I sat down to review the images on the computer. I comped it into this shot as it appeared in the original frame.
Something else comes to mind on this shot. Normally I attempt to aim for technical perfection. However, something Chase Jarvis said recently -- regarding post production -- altered my thinking:
Iβm far less concerned with having a technically perfect image (boring) and way more concerned with raw visual impact. Itβs nice to have the knowledge of what a βtechnically correctβ image is, but resist falling into the trap of that being the βrightβ way. There is no right way. Raw impact wins over technical specification every day of the week. ~ Jarvis
I think thatβs pretty cool.
16.) Facet: aspect: a distinct feature or element in a problem: a smooth surface.
She had a thousand facets to pride herself in, yet she chose to dwell on the one that shamed her. For if she turned a little to the left, if the light fell the right way, and if you dared to look her in the eyes you could see exactly what she never wanted to reveal, all of her secrets, desires, and tales of cunning deceit.
I'm starting to take pictures regularly again and it still feels good even when they don't come out the way I'd imagined.
Hello my flickr friends.
I am now officially at college. I moved in this afternoon, after slowly, sadly saying goodbye to my family for the entire morning, and I had no idea I would be able to fit so much stuff into my dorm. I wanted to make a few announcements though for you guys, before you wonder what happened to me in the coming days.
1. I am putting my 365 project on hold for a while. *Cue depressing music* Yes, this is sad and completely terrible for me because I really wanted to complete this project in a year. However, if I am trying to be completely reasonable and living in reality, I know there is no way I will be able to take a self-portrait a day, or even any picture a day, for that matter. There is just no way around it. So I am sorry if I have disappointed anyone. Hopefully I will take lots of pictures on my breaks to make up for it, but until then, do not expect to see a daily upload from me. At least for a while.
2. Along with that, I will not be on Flickr as much as I would like to be. Since there is wireless on campus, I will still try to keep up on your streams and comment and fave as much as I can, but Iβm not going to promise anything. So please, please donβt think I am neglecting any of your streams, because I am not. I still love you all just the same as I did before. :)
3. Lastly, I want to say how much I love you all. You beautiful, talented people mean absolutely more than you can imagine to me. I feel that I have grown so much since I began photography at the beginning of this year, and I believe many of you have played a major role in that. Some of you have said things to me that are the nicest things anyone has ever said to me before, and it absolutely touched my heart. Every kind, caring comment you have left on a picture of mine, every flickrmail you have sent me, and every picture that has been inspired by me has not gone unnoticed. I love, love, love everything to death and feel I do not deserve it; not in the least. So I want to thank you. Thank you all so much.
Please donβt forget me. LOVE
4. I am listening to this song right now. I don't know what I like so much about it, all I know is that I do. It's beautiful.
I apologise for the sorry state of my nails - but they were glittery black and I didn't think it was all that suitable for this photo hah.

This is the Campbellford Salvation Army Thrift Store. It resides in an old (Baptist)church. Taken from across the river(Trent River),in Campbellford, Ontario. The snow's overexposed, but i still like the shot.

This is the last shot of the vigil series, my mother passed away yesterday. These are my sisters looking over my mom knowing her time was very short. She passed away a few hours later. Without getting into all the details, we knew she had only a few days left and I didn't have the heart to disclose that in my postings, waiting for the inevitable moment to do so.
I want to sincerely thank everyone who offered words of encouragements and best wishes, even though I know most of you only through Flickr, they do help. This was my first vigil and I must say that it was a very strong experience. Not only did she know we were there in her last days as we accompanied her on her final journey, but it was very fulfilling for my sisters and me. Very tiring, stressful, but it created a bond and a sense of purpose I have not felt in a very long time. We were there until the end, I'm we are very grateful for that.
A difficult way to start the 365 challenge, and I almost decided not to take part or quit after a few days, but one of the things my mom thought me (us), was never, never quit something you start. Being personal in nature, I tried to keep my vigil theme tasteful and discreet. I will continue and look forward to the next 360 and hope to find some inspiration.

A little store on the border of Grapevine and Flowermound, TX that operated from 1943 to 2014. RIP, Griffis, you will always be a fond childhood memory. Time to make room for that 16 story high rise being built across the street. At least it's not a Wal-mart!
If you see this on black you get to press an extra button! Oh yeah...and it looks awesomer =D
Urghh school tomorrow, and of course the leaves start falling like crazy today =P
So I spent most of my day writing, taking pictures, and climbing trees. I'll say it's been a pretty good day so far =]
I don't have much else to say except the title is from Good Riddance by Greenday and Happy Sunday everybody!
I was actually trying to get a low perspective on this Daffodil, when i
noticed the spider trying to stay out of sight. It was remarkably sunny.

I had several visits on this shoot: the first one from the property owner where I had parked my vehicle in the drive of an abandoned house. He was sweet as could be and said he saw my car and thought I might have broken down. After receiving his blessing for being there, it wasn't a couple minutes later, a guy in a tow truck and another man in a pickup pull up next to my car. As it turns out, the tow truck guy was the neighbor on the other side of this property and was not quite as sweet as the owner (evidently, the other guy was his backup in case I was more than he could handle). By the time I took this shot, it was completely dark (to the human eye), and I had a hard time convincing him that there was anything of value to photograph here. He seemed to think I could be a part of a string of burglaries that had been taking place in the area recently. I didn't think my Camry Hybrid or myself presented with such a malicious vibe, but I'm pretty intimidating when paired with my long black jacket and tripod. Sometimes I forget that (totally joking, btw). Anyways, even after telling him I had the blessing of the owner, it still took some persuading before his demeanor softened a bit and he begrudgingly gave me the green light to continue. I left in about five or ten minutes, however, seeing the obvious unease I had instilled in these two men. It is their home, after all. I can respect that and understand his trepidation to a degree (and I know how to pick my battles - this wasn't one of them). This, and the fact that that same gentleman was parked in his driveway with his lights on in his car after our conversation, watching me the entire time. Something about that can be a bit unnerving, but he probably knew that. I found the two, completely opposite responses of these two men (the owner and the latter) very interesting. I guess it's my background in Psychology that makes me contemplate these things. The first man's instinct was along the lines of, "what can I do to help this unknown person that is possibly in need," versus the second gentleman's, "what threat could this person pose to me or my land," reaction. And while I do understand the my last visitors concern, I hope that I tend to lean toward the assumptions of the property owner. It seems more optimistic overall and a much more positive way to look at life in general. After all, it is the people who's first reaction is to serve others (and assume "goodness" before "badness" of the human condition) that are generally the ones that are most satisfied with their life as a whole.
This was the last shot I took right after that conversation (unedited). It was right around the end of nautical dusk (around 45 min. to an hour after sunset), in between Gainesville and Sanger, Texas immediately west of Interstate 35. Natural light and light from the streetlamp behind me. I like the way the residual dusk and streetlights played into the photo, although I don't think it's my very favorite one in the whole set (but it had the most interesting story to go with it). I offered to show a few shots to the guy that seemed so unsettled, thinking it might allay his fears about my intentions, but he declined my offer.

Ring-Billed Gull with a Yellow Perch that it just caught. 400mm h/h-MF..no crop. Tough shot for me @ 400mm and manually focusing...i'm pretty pleased with the result though.

. . . There are words inside her, waiting to be born.
She feels them growing, forming, becoming thoughts that might later work themselves into sentences to be spoken aloud.
Now, they are nothing but jagged letters with sharp edged corners poking at her, making her uncomfortable. She canβt seem to put them together in any way that softens them.
She soon realizes they will always be hard and sharp. They will always be hard to get out.
It might be easier to keep them inside, let them remain a struggling mess of letters and sounds that will hurt no one but her.
The atoms are crushed open and all of their most secret secrets are strewn across the lawn until the wind carries them off and all of the hope in their hearts is carried with them until they are gone. The rhythm of the soul beats as one with the rhythm of the heart but when the soul dies in the dark the lyrics are lost. Thus, the mind is forced to break away from its orbit and gently fall apart. *This description is completely unrelated to the photo it is dedicated to. Just some free association writing and I chose to publish it here. Why? Because I can.*

She could sense its vacuum from a distance far beyond the hollow air that rushed in to fill the void across this canyon...
A chasm spanning ten million miles wide, its bowels cut wide open, deeper than the most distant molecule in space...
She could see a distant, almost transparent apparition standing very still and watching her with no expression.., she stood precisely where the sun would set.
All the while, knowing that this far-off stranger was not a stranger at all.
I was She and She was Me, and despite our fate to spend eternity alone, We shared a finite moment within an infinite expanse.
(They became We - She & Me).
