The main feature of this part of the park is undoubtedly the famous Haleakala Crater. It is huge: 6.99 miles (11.25 km) across, 2.0 mi (3.2 km) wide, and some 2,600 ft (790 m) deep. The interior of the crater is dotted by numerous volcanic features, including large cinder cones. Two main trails lead into the crater from the summit area: the Halemau'u and Sliding Sands trails.

Each morning, visitors come to the summit of the volcano to watch the spectacular sunrise. More visitors come each afternoon to watch the equally amazing sunset. In either case conditions can be extremely cold.(Wikipedia)

Bergen is a city on Norway’s southwestern coast. It's surrounded by mountains and fjords, including Sognefjord, the country’s longest and deepest. Bryggen features colorful wooden houses on the old wharf, once a center of the Hanseatic League's trading empire. (Wikipedia)

A completely frozen house just before sunset somewhere in northern wintry Sweden. These conditions makes you feel like you are in a fairytale,

Martha's Vineyard

Out to the most western point, are these colored sand/clay cliffs. The surf and wind had been so high, that much of the red and orange color had been washed into the water. One of the beauiful, clear sunny days of the trip.

I would obviously spend hours here if on my own.....

I have not read this book yet. It is heavy material and I have to be in the right mood to read something like this. I have dealt with people in my past that have had addictions and have attended Al-Anon meetings, so I know what it is like to go through an ordeal like this.

Here is what the inside of the cover said, author is David Sheff:

"When Nic was growing up, I thought I would be content with whatever choices he made in his life... Now I live with the knowledge that, never mind the most modest definition of a normal or healthy life, my son may not make it to twenty-one."

What had happened to my beauiful boy? To our family? What did I do wrong? Those are the wrenching questions that haunted every moment of David Sheff's harrowing journey through his son Nic's addiction to drugs and tentative steps toward recovery. Beautiful Boy is a fiercely candid memoir that brings immediacy to the emotional rollercoaster of loving a child who seems beyond help. Before Nic Sheff became addicted t crystal meth, he was a charming boy, joyous and funny, a varsity athlete and honor student adored by his two younger siblings. After meth, he was a trembling wraith who lied repeatedly, stole money from his eight-year-old brother, and lived on the streets. David Sheff traces the first subtle warning signs: the denial, the three A.M. phone calls (is it Nic? the police? the hospital?), the rehabs. His preoccupation with Nic became an addiction in itself, and the obsessive worry and stress took a tremendous toll. But as a journalist, he instinctively researched every avenue of treatment that might save his son and refused to give up on Nic. Beautiful Boy grew out of an article in the New York Times Magazine that drew an overwhelming response from readers grateful that Sheff had finally given voice to the devestating experience they shared. As the psychologist Mary Pipher, author of Reviving Ophelia, said in praise of Beautiful Boy, "When one of us tells the truth, he makes it easier for all of us to open our hearts to our pain and that of others."

iceberg ahoy! An iceberg or ice mountain is a large piece of freshwater ice that has broken off a glacier or an ice shelf and is floating freely in open water. It may subsequently become frozen into pack ice (one form of sea ice). As it drifts into shallower waters, it may come into contact with the seabed, a process referred to as seabed gouging by ice. the top of an iceberg is called an isotope.

Because the density of pure ice is about 920 kg/m³, and that of seawater about 1025 kg/m³, typically only one-tenth of the volume of an iceberg is above water (due to Archimedes's Principle). The shape of the underwater portion can be difficult to judge by looking at the portion above the surface. This has led to the expression "tip of the iceberg", for a problem or difficulty that is only a small manifestation of a larger problem.

Icebergs generally range from 1 to 75 metres (3 to 246 ft) above sea level and weigh 100,000 to 200,000 metric tons (110,000 to 220,000 short tons). The largest known iceberg in the North Atlantic was 168 metres (551 ft) above sea level, reported by the USCG icebreaker East Wind in 1958, making it the height of a 55-story building. These icebergs originate from the glaciers of western Greenland and may have an interior temperature of −15 to −20 °C (5 to −4 °F).

Model/designer: Fern Blevins

Back in the very first days of my love for photography, Fern asked me if I would be up for collaborating with her and photograhing this beauiful Edwardian dress she had designed and made herself. Of course, I said yes, but as busy schedules, university and other things crept up on us, the shoot ended up never happening.. until now!

Asia calls Jr. (baby brother) which sounds so awesome coming out of her mouth. He loves when she is talking she has his total attention which is what she likes anyways. They're are so awesome, I love them so much. Who would've thought in a million years that me (Yane') would have both a daugther & a son. The feelings are different yet they are exactly the same.
