In the heart of the wild, where the rivers flow, Where the ancient forests whisper and the mountain peaks glow, Lives the mighty grizzly, with fur of tawny gold, A creature of legends, fierce and bold.

With a hump on its back, a symbol of might, It roams through the shadows, both day and night. In meadows it wanders, through the alpine air, A sovereign of wilderness, beyond compare.

It digs through the earth with powerful claws, For roots and for berries, and nature's laws. By the streams it stands, where the salmon leap, In the hush of the forest, secrets it keeps.

When winter winds howl, and the snow starts to fall, The grizzly retreats to its den, once and for all. In the quiet of slumber, it dreams of the spring, Of the green world reborn, and the songs it will sing.

But the grizzly is more than its strength and its might, It's a guardian of balance, from morning till night. Through its wild eyes, the spirit of earth, A reminder of nature's infinite worth.

So let us respect this grand bear of the wild, With a heart full of wonder, as pure as a child. For in the realm of the grizzly, we see A glimpse of our world's true majesty.

First year Grizzly cub stands up to greet us.

This third year cub in the Khutzeymateen Sanctuary, is on the lookout for any big males in the area.

This young male grizzly found a comfy bead of rockweed to nap. Taking a break from eating sedge grass.

Unfortunately they wouldn't let me out of the boat to remove the leaf from his back.

New grizzley cubs in the Khutzemateen

Beautiful momma grizzly bear named Raspberry with her sweet 2 year old cub named Jam. During a rain storm this amazing mother walked over later and laid down next to her sweet faced cub.

Meal interrupted as this grizzley, works in a good scratch between chews.

A good day fishing up at Bute Inlet, BC Coast. just gives you a grizzly smile…

This young Grizzly came for a drink of water. I was told by the Guides from the Khutzeymateen Lodge, that even though the estuary is salt water, the mountain runoff floats on top of the salt water, allowing a fresh drink.

“Sleepwalking Bear Cub”

One day, deep in the enchanted forest of Cades Cove lived Momma Bear and her three little cubs. The cubs frolicked and played hard all morning, biting each other’s ears, toppling over one another, and pinning them to the ground. They fought so hard they could “bearly” keep their eyes open.

They took a nap safely in a tree with Momma Bear below. Momma Bear also grew weary and slept on a mossy-covered log.

“Time to get up and play!” said one cub. The last cub barely made it out of the tree awake and fell deep asleep at the base of the tree. He sleepwalked until his brother toppled him to the ground, snapping him out of his slumber.

With a few days in hand before returning home I decided to head to Alaska - unfortunately their were a lot of wild fires towards Homer even Denali so I headed for Seward and stopped at the AWCC conservation site. Glad I did as this was the only chance I got to see a Grizzly in this short time - what a magnificent animal.

“A Momma’s Work Is Never Done!”

This summer was a magical time in Cades Cove. With a million cubs running around, it made for a great adventure.

The momma bears had a time trying to keep up with all their youngins—man were they growing up quickly and very active.

She must be on the lookout for their well-being constantly. By standing, she could better see over the tall grass to find each cub and be on alert for noises and activity around them.

A momma’s work is never done!

Grizzly bathing in Bute Inlet

Even Grizzlies got to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Bears journey long distances to Algard Creek and the Orford River to feast on the spawning salmon and their eggs.

A shot I took of a young scruffy Brown Bear in Whistler Blackcomb area in 2012.

Each bear really has its own trait and caricature.
