Most anthropologists were considerably older than Dick and Jane, but none were better. Their insights into human origins--often made during recess--revolutionized the field. Look--they've just finished nap time, and they appear to be on the verge of another breakthrough.

more info about this bunker

after the Second World War this bunker was blown up.

This bunker Type was designed by the Kriegsmarine for 'German Navy'.

This bunker Type is part of the Regelbau program in the second world war.

how is a Regelbau

Before and during World War II, the Wehrmacht built several standardised bunkers and weapon positions in Germany and German-occupied countries. These buildings were called Regelbau, i.e. standardised buildings.

The Regelbau (German for "standard design") were a series of standardised bunker designs built in large numbers by the Germans in the Siegfried Line (German: Westwall) and the Atlantic Wall as part of their defensive fortifications prior to and during the Second World War.

Following the occupation of German territories west of the Rhine, fortress engineers began the construction of the Siegfried Line in 1936. In doing so they were able to benefit from their earlier experience of bunker construction. In compliance with the Versailles Treaty, they had already built the Wetterau-Main-Tauber position and Neckar-Enz position before 1936. When, in 1936, construction started on the Siegfried Line itself, they were able at the outset to utilize designs from the two earlier fortifications. From these existing plans, fortress pioneers rapidly developed improved bunkers that were built from 1937. This building phase was named the Engineer Construction Programme and was characterized by bunkers built to B1 standard thicknesses (see above). Since the thickness of these structures was soon considered to be too weak and because there was a large number Regelbau designs (and hence confusion), new types were developed and implemented from 1938. These new designs were achieved largely by simplifying and reducing the number of Regelbau types. This new building phase was called the Limes Programme.

Development of Regelbau designs from 1936 to 1940

The fortress engineers were no longer in charge of construction; instead Organization Todt (OT) took over, promising Hitler it would deliver the number of structures he wanted. Plans for the Limes Programme did not envisage the inclusion of the cities of Aachen and Saarbrücken and they therefore ended up in front of the planned line of fortifications. That changed in 1939 with the Aachen-Saar Programme. From 1939, yet more new Regelbau bunkers were designed for the construction programme that saw increases in the construction thicknesses. From then on, only bunkers that met the in "B new" and "A" standards were to be built. With the outbreak of the Second World War on 1 September 1939, priorities for the construction of the Siegfried Line changed. The renewed shortage of raw materials led to the development of a new series of Regelbau designs, the so-called wartime standard designs or Kriegsregelbauten. After the "lavish" Regelbauten of the Aachen-Saar Programme, the final construction phase was dominated by massive financial constraints. For example, observation cupolas and flank firing positions were no longer provided and the rooms were smaller.

November 28, 2007 | A threadless shirt Be Square Designed by Justin White

I was invited by Dunny to take some photos of Tyler for this weeks $10 t-shirt sale at threadless.

There is a lot of detail in each face. Tyler was kinda worried about the square at the top with only one eye.

This is meant to be used as anatomy reference or use in art. Please see my profile for usage rules!

Name: Charulata

Species: Eastern Coyote/Coywolf

Sex: Female

Location from: Upper US (possibly Canada)

Other: Eastern coyotes (AKA Northeastern coyote) are descendants from coywolves. Due to the wolf genes in their system, they tend to be bigger in size with more robust features- not quite as burly and square as their wolf grandparents, but not as slender and dainty as the rest of their coyote family.

These hybrids and hybrid descendants are most prevalent in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Maryland, New York, New England, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. These hybrids were caused by low wolf population numbers in Canada (Canadian Gray Wolf numbers have since become healthy again), where wolves became desperate and started mating with coyotes. Normally, wolves are not tolerant of coyotes in the least and will usually harass or kill them outright.

Even in places where all seems to be lost and salvation is but a shadowy and elusive dream, hope still exists. And people exist who believe in a better reality.

Take the recent transformations that occured in Columbia and Singapore - two countries that were completely abandoned and seemingly destined to fail suddenly rose up out of the ashes and are thriving now. Columbia went from having some of the most dangerous neighborhoods (due to drug wars and gun violence) is now a thriving place filled with hopeful individuals.

Never give up hope. There is always light at the end of the tunnel, and more often than not, it's just a bend away.

Now it is time to start with cleaning the kitchen from top to bottom. Don't worry if the floors look clean enough because it's still best to clean them again to be sure they are clean enough for your family when they come home.

Well, it's time for a break. Make yourself a light lunch of salad, no dressing, no sugar at all and an apple. Don't want to loose the figure you had the day you got married. You know, when you were 18 years old, 3 less kids, one less husband and 20 less years!

While you are eating you can be darning the socks of the whole family or creating lovely clothes by hand or polishing all the stainless steel you own. Never let the grass grow under your pretty high heels! Be productive while relaxing.

Government Street seems to be providing me with lots of shots recently. I spend a lot time driving up and down Government which probably explains why I notice things to photograph there so often. That aside, it is one of the more interesting parts of town. There is a great mix of reused buildings and old neighborhoods. In the original plan for my neighborhood, Beauregard Town, Government street was conceived as the main thoroughfare for the whole city. It was to be a grand boulevard with gardens and parade grounds. Its present condition may not be so grand but it still seems to attract a lot of interesting folks. It is a bit of a photographic cliche but I just can't resist a string of Christmas lights. These happen to be particularly nice Christmas lights, but I can admit that images of them may be a bit overdone. If you live in Baton Rouge you might want to check out Gallery Bohemia. They have great hats and lots of local art as well as interesting, redone pieces of mid-century furniture. That's all for now. I had to write a piece for the food blog over at Country Roads magazine about Béarnaise sauce this morning and now I am off to help my mother get the garden at Magnolia Mound ready for a horticultural tour in April.

Check out more at my blog, Lemons and Beans, for lots of photos, recipes, travel writing and other ramblings. I appreciate any feedback but, please do not post graphic awards or invitations in your comments.

Blue Devil students, staff, and families have poured themselves into plenty of activities this fall. Even the most diehard athletes and boosters would be hard-pressed, however, to match the intensity and staying power of the fund-raising efforts backing Holmes Desmelik and Amber Rhodes.

Visit Brevard High School any day of the week to observe "Holmes Team" and "Amber's Angels" fervently chasing their goals on behalf of these fellow students.

Both Amber and Holmes suffer from cancers which cannot be fully eradicated (if at all) through surgery.

In honor of both students, Blue Devils purchased headbands for a dollar apiece, then gathered on October 9th for a star-shaped photo to honor the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. In the end, that first wave raised over $1,200 for the teams (see our album).

Graphics teacher Katrina Ronneburger (BHS) said, "I wanted to help my students come up with a way they could show support for Amber Rhodes - a senior from BHS - and Holmes - whose mother Clare teaches Spanish at BHS. Both of these families have a child that's been diagnosed with a brain tumor. We came up with 'Headbands 4 Hope,' and my students jumped all over it!

"The campaign was run through my club (BHS Graphics Club)

We sold almost 100 the 1st day without any promotion. My students made posters to put all over school - and it went crazy from there.

"Several students made generous donations and only expected one headband, others bought $20 worth to pass out to friends. We did have several anonymous donations to raise our final total to $1200.00. We donated $600 to the Desmelik family and $600 to 'Make-A-Wish' for Amber's Team."

Clare Desmelik added, "Thanks for showing support for our families. Holmes was diagnosed with a tumor in his thalamus, which most doctors consider inoperable. Right now his tumor is stable and Holmes is enjoying kindergarten. He is a great little guy with a heart of gold. One of his goals for this year is to make a green stamp for good behavior every single day at school and not to have to get a warning from his teachers.

"There has been an incredible amount of love and support pouring in from the community. Our friends and Holmes' friends, many churches and small businesses have all been so generous. I am so blessed to work in such a wonderful school system. The folks at TCS have overwhelmed us with support. Faculty from all of the schools have reached out, as well as the good people at the Central Office. BHS had our back from the very first day that our world changed with his diagnosis. The faculty, the students and their families have boosted our spirits and helped in so many ways. The staff at BES has made Holmes feel so welcomed and Holmes sure knows his way around the high school as well! Students and staff alike make Holmes feel like the star he is!

"The pie challenge on October 17th is something we called 'Whipping Childhood Cancer' in order to raise awareness and send love to Amber and the Rhodes Family, as well as raise money for Make a Wish, one of Amber's favorite charities.

"Amber's brother Garrett challenged us with this earlier this year and we of course accepted and paid it forward to 7 others, helping to raise money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. We were ready for more pies and excitement...Holmes was especially looking forward to it!"

To follow up, a group of BHS teachers have organized "Rent-a- Student" to help raise money for Holmes Team to cover mounting medical bills. The registration page is located at bit.ly/rent-a-student-2014.

Holmes also has a facebook page that many in our county are already following that keeps people up to date on how things are going and of events planned. www.facebook.com/groups/holmesteam

Honestly, we have been humbled by the love, and he Holmes Team motto is "Love Heals."

Inspired by Kitty's 'October Goals' journalling, I've recorded my New Year's resolutions. I hope I'll be able to achieve these in 2011 and beyond :)

Very fortunate to be studying the home range and habitat use of these magnificent birds this year at Deakin University.

Today I was testing out the new Panasonic 100-400mm f4-6.3 with some local birds that are in my study. This is a fantastic lens... and 800mm equivalent on the mirrorless system is rather incredible. All in a package less than 1kg in weight. Photographed with a tripod given the dull conditions.

The road to Applecross is something that has to be seen to be believed, if you've ever driven through the highlands or islands of Scotland you will already be used to driving on the little single track roads that link up the small villages dotted throughout the vast countryside, but getting to Applecross is something that little bit special, as are the views when you're at the top of the hill and about to start heading back down the other side.

As soon as you arrive at the road which will take you up and over the range of hills to Applecross you're greeted with a sign saying it's not a road for inexperienced drivers, and it's no understatement. At some stages of the single track road you find yourself looking over the edge of a vast cliff face knowing that one wrong move and you could be hurtling down the hill sideways instead of staying glued to the road.

It gets even more interesting when you have to deal with traffic coming the other direction, yes there are passing places but when we're in the big V8 Monaro and there's a 4x4 jeep coming the other way then the passing places are being pushed to the limit with both parties holding their breath during the seconds the cars pass by one another, then a quick sigh and we're on our way again.

We shot a video from the camera mount in the Monaro of us coming back down the hill, once I finish working through the rest of the pics from the trip I'll sort out the video too just to show how awesome this place is.

Clifford, from our Valentines Day Photo Shoot last weekend at Animal Network Las Vegas Adoption Event.

"This friendly little guy was rescued off of the streets with another little dog and no owner was located. They were very dirty and thirsty from an obvious extended time outside on the streets. Clifford is a calm Chi Mix that is very comfortable with people and other dogs".

Thank you to flickr member be cheery of the Lollipop Workshop!! I just got this 'cheery little snow fella' in the mail. I'm so excited to have him. Thank you be cheery for your cute little creations!

I always believed that I could be a good paparazzi, but I failed my first task while vocationing in France. Madonna was standing not far from me, but I completely missed her. I found out that she was there 10 minutes after I left the scene. I checked my SD card and there she was the "Material Girl".

Madonna was starring and directing a movie about Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson filmed over here in the French Riviera. This was reported on French TV: click here. I also shoot a footage of the scene. My video is here.
