At the end of the day, The Mash is a festival. And what festival is complete without a soundtrack? Certainly not this one. That's why after a full week of feasting on good food, expanding our minds at panels and classes, and filling our bellies with delicious brews, we celebrate our last evening in town with a Bash; a Mash Bash. We're bringing a bevy of new school rockers with the charm and fuzzed out heartbreak of Speedy Ortiz, the intrepid prog-pop of Legs Like Tree Trunks, and the self-proclamied snot rock of The Lopez.
The show is free, so just bring your cash for the bar's special on Brooklyn cans, the foodtruck outside, and some swag.
“[Speedy Ortiz] do a lot of the loud-quiet-loud thing, and when it’s loud, it’s loud, with guitarist Matt Robidoux usually attacking his guitar or rubbing the fretboard against whatever he can find on stage. And from the little math rock tendencies they sometimes work in, it’s clear that they’re all great players too.” - Brooklyn Vegan
"Let’s start by declaring Legs Like Tree Trunks one of the best bands in Pittsburgh. Yeah I said it. I’ll avoid sappy congratulations and end with a message to the band: guys, don’t fuck this up…keep doing what you’re doing. This is excellent." - Draw Us Lines
"[The Lopez] is a duo who immerse us with loud, screeching, (and most importantly) FUN rock n’ roll. They’ve also baked cakes and hosted taco parties at their shows. [...] The new recording rocks like a full band wailing Stooges-like riffs, Riot Grrl grrrwls, and early punk grooves in a basement." - Draw Us Lines
At Battleship Memorial Park, near Mobile, Alabama, I visited the Battleship Alabama (BB 60), a South Dakota-class battleship, now a museum ship. This battleship was launched and commissioned in 1942 and served in World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. She has been at this location as a museum ship since 1964. The park includes many other historical exhibits.
