Fog is a common weather phenomenon in San Francisco to the point that they had to give it a name: Karl the Fog. This is shot from the upper deck of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Brdige.

Happy New Year, 2017! I got out there tonight with Ryan L. to shoot the San Francisco fireworks show from Strawberry, near Tiburon, CA. The conditions were good for a long telephoto shot up until just before midnight when the wind began whipping around our position along the waterfront. At one point my camera was getting slapped by flailing tree branches. Regardless, a good time was had.

The Ferry Building is just visible in the center of the left half of the waterfront, which is 8 miles away. I wasn't sure how the weather might dictate our location, so I left the 645 at home and shot with my APS-C body. The extra telephoto compression was favorable in this case.

Lens is the D FA150-450mm on the K3II. The camera's integral GPS has embedded the precise location into the EXIF.

Thanks for looking.

Wow! Mother nature granted me with one spectacular view today! A nice follow up to the lunar eclipse :P

I've never seen a rainbow end to end like this. Such an amazing sight with the sun behind me and the shadows of the buildings reflecting in the water.

I got a request from my wife to have a print made from this location, and the day I went to get the shot conditions were perfect. At blue hour the tide was high and a lot of clouds were rolling through. This was a single 2 minute exposure and I used a 4 stop Rev GRD ND filter to balance the bright lights of the bridge with the rest of the scene.

The lights are back on the Bay Bridge! Right time to show the charm of San Francisco to the guests of Super Bowl 50.

The new eastern span of the Bay Bridge is eye catching at night; the lighting is even, at least above the deck. Good vantage points remain scarce.

Security is tighter on Yerba Buena Island these days. We were walking on Macalla Road when we told by a private security patrol (something I haven't seen before) to get back to public space. Maybe it's because the redevelopment of the island is theoretically breaking ground in 2014?
