San Francisco is known for it's cool, temperate, and even foggy climate most of the year. And that also depends which of the micro-climates you are in within the city. But the city actually experiences its warmer, sunnier weather in September through October. So if you plan to visit and don't want to be miserable, visit in the late summer/early fall.

Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, CA.
As I stayed at home, like we all had to, confined by the restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, my mind never stopped wandering to the great outdoors. While COVID-related news was grim, it would not stop me from dreaming of feeling the sun on my face and the wind in my hair as I explore nature's beauty.
The pandemic had forced us to adapt to a new way of life. We've had to find ways to entertain ourselves within the confines of our homes. But as much as we tried to make the best of it, there's no denying that we missed being outside.
I longed for the days when I could go for a hike in the mountains or take a leisurely stroll in a local park. The sights and sounds of nature have a calming effect that can't be replicated indoors.
When, eventually, restrictions were eased and I could venture outside once again, Yosemite National Park is what I treated myself to! Although I had been to Yosemite many times before (and even hiked up to Half Dome handful of times), I can't describe my joy when the dream of being outdoors did come true for me. Outdoors are even better to be in than they are in dreams!

Shot with an old 28mm Tokina lens on Nikon D700. To achieve the magnification seen here for this tiny subject, 12mm extension tube was attached between the lens and the camera. The front of the lens was no more than an inch away from the subject, a tiny part of folds in a scarf.
Colors/tones enhanced in Lightroom, then cropped and saved as JPG file in Photoshop.
No artificial light was used in the making of this image. Light coming in from the window was all that was needed.
I had picked up a used camera from a seller on Craigslist couple years back. It is in decent condition for a 10+ year-old camera and the price was right, $250 (with the lens used to make this image and the original box and cables and manuals, memory card, couple batteries, etc.) In my excitement about this 'new' camera, I forgot to change the image quality to RAW and ISO to the native low, 200. After shooting few images this morning, when I imported them into Lightroom, that's when I realized the mistakes I made in my excitement...shot in JPG with auto ISO. Yikes! Well, at least I set the time correctly!!!

Since keeping sidewalks clear/clean isn't an essential service or a priority, and rightfully so, in current situation we're in, weeds are thriving in my neighborhood. These tiny flowers reveal their beauty if we take a moment to get close to them on the ground and give them a look.
I prefer calling them wildflowers, instead of weeds. š
Experimenting with Sony 85mm lens, primarily used for making portraits, I found it quite good for closeups of little things as well. It can't get anywhere close to 1:1 magnification afforded by true macro lenses but I'm impressed with what it has captured from about 3ft away.

A street portrait from Tulip Day, or Flower Bulb Day, in San Francisco's Union Square last Saturday afternoon. The massively popular annual event attracts THOUSANDS of people, many who line up at sunrise, for the opportunity to pick their own tulips among a field of over 80,000 to take home.
Thank you for everyone who picked me out of the crowd for a quick portrait with your tulip haul! I am absolutely honored to help everyone capture memories from this special day! ā¤ļø
