The 1950’s woman could be described by using one word: perfection. Women in the 1950’s were expected to keep a flawless appearance while maintaining a home and a job. Fashion was very prominent and Paris became one of the largest fashion capitals during this time. World War II was over, and women began to become homemakers, although they did not altogether desert their new strength in the workforce. Women began to have a much more influential role in society. The ideal woman of the 1950’s would wear a beautiful dress, high heels, red lipstick, perfectly combed hair, and a smile on her face as she worked, cleaned, and cooked for her husband. It was a common trend for women to match their lipstick color to the color of their nail polish. A new trend in make-up was to wear harsh black eyeliner paired with a very light, pale lip-gloss. Pearls were a common jewelry choice. Women started to embrace their curves, rather than adopt a straight boyish figure that was common in the 1940’s. Family was the focus of the 1950’s, and the housewife became a major symbol in the media because of their consuming power. New technologies that were developed during the war benefitted the consumer and the level of the comfort of living was increased. Another new ideal that greatly influenced the market place was the invention of the teenager. The teenagers of the 1950’s did not follow the trends of their parents and the Paris fashion craze, rather they wore skirts and nice cardigans or if they were daring, oversized sweaters with tight black pants and flats. Rock and Roll influenced the use of leather pants and jackets for men. This was the first time in history that teenagers were defined as consumers and therefore the marketplace began to tailor products specifically for teens. Hairstyles changed frequently. Women began to visit hairstylists more often, although home dye kits were still very popular and hair color that only lasted for a day or week was invented. The hairstyles of famous movie stars such as Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, and Marilyn Monroe created new trends in hair that were copied by women all over the world. The strapless bra became incredibly popular in the 50’s due to the ability of women to wear strapless dresses. Long petticoats were also very popular. Swim wear was another trend of the 1950’s and was displayed in the media, the beach, and in magazines. Even though the bikini was invented in the 1940’s, its popularity grew immensely in the 1950’s.

There was a contest on Pullip Land and unfortunatly I couldn"t make it on time. But I still took my pictures following the given theme on every round.
I'm not really satisfied (actually not at all) with this picture. I wanted something more dynamic, and I had a really shitty background, no time. But anyways it was fun to do :D

Still nameless.
I modified the bathsuit a little but still think I can do it better next time. These, of course as all my girls' clothes, where made in work breaks in speed time. So please bear with the many flaws. ^^

Blaine : So we are finaly alone… we can continue what we begin this morning..
Barbie : What !? We are in public..
Blaine : I was talking about the talk we had about your parents.
Barbie : Oh… I’m not against public sex finaly !
Blaine : Babe..
Barbie : Okay but this is the only one time we talk about it, then you never ask me anything about them.
Blaine : Ok
Barbie : Well… I grew up in Wisconcin and my parents are a little… conservator. They wanted me to be a doctor or something like that. When I got 18, I got hired as a model for a bathsuit calendar.
Blaine : The famous black & white one piece right ?
Barbie : Yeah, and my parents totally disaprove my choice, they keep saying I should go the university, get a major, a husband, breed and redo the pattern eternally. I really don’t want to, so I leave the house, continue with modelling in Los Angeles, Paris etc… I never go back. That’s all.
Blaine : And they don’t talk to you for that ?
Barbie : And I don’t talk to them neither. You need to understand, I broke their perfect life plan, They were so dissapointed, I called them sometimes and they keep saying I was wrong and that my career will cost their reputation and that I was selfish.
Blaine : Wow…
Barbie : Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea are still in « good » term with them.. As long as they do what they want. That’s why they don’t come for christmas, birthday, they don’t call neither. In a perfect world I would just call them, excuse, come back and we could skip in the field of flowers. But looking back at my career and how great I did.. There is no way I could turn back. I followed my dream and being really succeful… and it makes them even more angry.
Blaine : But Why does they let skipper live in New-York with you ?
Barbie : I guess they did’nt want to lose total control over her too, so they compromise their point of view.
Blaine : That’s freaking me out. When we’ll got kids, I want them to be free to do anything they want in life.
Barbie : you never told me that you want kids, you would be a great father
Blaine : You never asked me.

Skipper : ...Am I interupting something ?.. I can come back.

From an album I have inherited from Karl Fahlström, married to my fathers elder sister Gunhild. Karl (Kalle) was born 1891 in Högbo - Sandviken i Gästrikland.

The canal of Strömsholm was built to transport iron ore and iron from nothern part of Västmanland to the lake Mälaren, for further transportation. Here the transport goes over a lake.
Every year, around this time, we get together with some friends and commemorate everybody's birthday, January to December, munching on barbecue and taking a dip in the pool. When I saw this friend with her coloring, bathsuit and a glass of orange juice, in the water, I rushed over and asked her to go to the center of the pool, please, before finishing that juice. She was very sweet to oblige. Then I got clicking trying for a clean, light image. The editing was mainly contrast adjustment and HSL in Lightroom until I got what I thought to be the right tones.
