Because the bedroom has French doors (to share light with the library), I installed a velvet curtain for on-demand privacy.
Door out to the stairway and the kitchen is off to the right, out of the picture. Leslie's table and chairs are out of sight to the left - you can see just a bit of one of her chairs. For most of our years here, this room was Chris' bedroom. The couple who had own the house before us had used this space as an office for the two of them. So we've combined the two uses for the time being. When the renovation upstairs is complete, this room will be Stephen's office and a guest bedroom (the sleep sofa now in the utility room/kitchen will be moved into this room, and the bed before you will be moved upstairs.)

Hyde Park is essentially built on a beach, so if you dig you reach sand immediately. We dug down about 13 inches, and gained between 8 and 9 inches of ceiling height.
Drier to the left, and our intimate kitchen. Glass block window at the upper left. Small cable TV sitting on top of the microwave on the right, on top of the rack of our TV tables. You can see Felix's bowls on the floor under the counter.
We're living in the basement. If you were to descend the steps from the groundfloor, at the bottom you'd look through the doorway into our bedroom/living room/office. My coat rack is to the right. (Leslie's coatrack is behind you to your left, in the vestibule that separates this room from the kichen/utility room.)
