Dubai’s Anonymous SAMO-esque scrawls in Barsha
In the late 70s, downtown New York became the canvas for a young Jean-Michel Basquiat and his ‘SAMO’ tags. It’s hard to say if Dubai is harbouring a Basquiat in-the-making, but these cryptic, poignant and (in one case) prophetic messages have been popping up all over the Barsha and TECOM neighbourhoods. These have all been documented by Jalal Abuthina.
A Nihang at Kila Raipur Festival Kila Raipur
Nihangs (also: called Akalis) are a very famous and prestigious armed Sikh order. Early Sikh military history is dominated by the Akali Sikh military order that is particularly noted for the many famous military victories they won, often while they were heavily out-numbered.
The Nihangs have historically been held in great affection and respect by Sikhs due the pivotal role they have played in Sikh history and Sikh military history in particular.
Traditional Nihang dress is known as Shiva Swarupa meaning "Shiva's appearance". This comprises full attire of superelectric blue, edged bracelets of iron round their wrists (jangi kara) and quoits of steel (chakram) tiered in their lofty conical blue turbans, together with the traditional sword carried by all baptised Sikhs (kirpan). When fully armed a Nihang will also bear one or two swords (either the curved talwar or the straight khanda) on his right hip, a katara (dagger) on his left hip, a buckler made from buffalo-hide (dhala) on his back, a large chakram around his neck, and an iron chain. In times of war, arms worn on the Nihang's person would generally be reserved until the warrior lost the weapon he held, often a bow or spear (barsha). Armour consisted of sanjo or iron chainmail worn under an iron breastplate (char aina). Nihang war-shoes (jangi mojeh) were constructed of iron at the toe, making their pointed toes capable of inflicting cuts and stab wounds.

Baisakhi, also called Vaisakhi, is a harvest festival which is celebrated on the thirteenth of April according to the solar calendar. It is celebrated in North India, particularly in Punjab, when the rabi crop is ready for harvesting. This tough agricultural operation is rendered into a lighter occupation by merry community festivities such as the Bhangra dance by men, who pound the ground with vigorous steps accompanied with singing. Women too, break into a revelry of dances principally the Gidda dance, executed with fervour and rhythmic exactitude. On these occasions, men and women adorn themselves with gay coloured clothes and traditional jewellery. Generally, the sites of these festivities are on the banks of the rivers which have their sacred import with myths and legends woven around their origin and names.
These shastars (weapons) belonged to Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his Sikhs. Usually your aren't allowed to take any photos, but I asked one of the sevadars there and he not only did he let us take photos but he gave us a nice thorough history of each shastar. It was so crowded because of the Holla Mahalla going on, so it was a little hard to hear him. But it was still just crazy to see these shastars.

St Bishoy (Pishoy) 320-417, was born in village of Shansa in the Egyptian governorate of al-Minufiyah. The youngest of six brothers, he was weak and frail. His mother saw an angel in a vision asking her to give God one of her children, and pointed to Bishoy. When the mother tried to offer one of her stronger children, the angel insisted that Bishoy was the chosen one. Bishoy went to the wilderness of Scetes when he was 20 years old and became a monk living the life of an ascetic becoming a disciple of St Macarius. Later, Bishoy was guided by an angel to the site of the present Monastery of Saint Bishoy, which he founded but continued to live the life of a hermit. Bishoy's asceticism was harsh to the extent of tying his hair and hands with a rope to the ceiling of his cell, in order to resist sleeping during his night prayers. This asceticism made him so famous that he was visited by Ephrem the Syrian. After the Monastery was invaded in 407/8 by the Mazices tribe, Bishoy left for the mountain of Ansena. While there, he built the monastery of Saint Bishoy at Deir al-Barsha, which still stands near Mallawi. His relics are housed at the Monastery of St Bishoy in Wadi Natrun.
Roma Termini is the main train station of Rome. It is named after the same name area, which in turn took its name from ancient Baths of Diocletian (in Latin, thermae), which lie across the street from the main entrance.
The station has regular train services to all major Italian cities as well as daily international services to Paris, Munich, Geneva, Basel and Vienna. With its 29 platforms and over 150 million passengers each year, Roma Termini is one of the largest train stations in Europe.
Termini is also the main hub for public transport inside Rome. Both current Rome Metro lines (A and B) intersect at Termini metro station, and a major bus station is located at Piazza dei Cinquecento, the square in front of the station. However, the main tram lines of the city cross at Porta Maggiore, some 1,500 metres east of the station.
On 23 December 2006, the station was dedicated to Pope John Paul II

On December 13, 841 (4 Koiak, 557 AM), Pope Joseph I of Alexandria fulfilled Pishoy's wishes and moved his body as well as that of Paul of Tammah to this monastery.

Christmas is an annual holiday celebrated on December 25 that marks and honors the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.Christmas is celebrated throughout the Christian population, but is also celebrated by many non-Christians as a secular, cultural festival. The holiday is widely celebrated around the world, including in the United States, where it is celebrated by 96% of the population.

On December 13, 841 (4 Koiak, 557 AM), Pope Joseph I of Alexandria fulfilled Pishoy's wishes and moved his body as well as that of Paul of Tammah to this monastery.

Taormina is a comune and small town on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, in the Province of Messina, about midway between Messina and Catania. Taormina has been a very popular tourist destination since the 19th century. It has popular beaches (accessible via an aerial tramway) on the Ionian sea, which is remarkably warm and has a high salt content. Taormina can be reached via highways from Messina from the north and Catania .Just south of Taormina is the Isola Bella, a nature reserve. Tours of the Capo Sant' Andrea grottos are also available. Taormina is built on an extremely hilly coast, and is approximately a forty-five minute drive away from Europe's largest active volcano, Mount Etna.A stay at Taormina is not just a seaside vacation. This area, rich in charm and history, must be experienced in a spirit that is outside the ordinary, and for one simple reason: here, everything is extraordinary. Every stone is a thousand-year-old piece of history, the glorious sea reflects Taormina's beauty, as it shapes and marks the passage of time, and the places that enchanted the Greeks create to this day a vibrant and exciting ambiance. But trying to describe in words what makes Taormina unique is truly difficult.
