Elegant double stairways. An original feature is the so-called “rotunda” lounge - from the Italian rotonda - a unique piece. The whole, formed by the vestibule and this large space, forms like a central span. This arrangement, also known as a "lantern", allows the visitor to have a view through the axis of the main courtyard-porch-vestibule-alley in perspective of the gardens located on the other side, around which revolve two parts autonomous each with a staircase.

The Royal Fort House is a historic house in Tyndalls Park, Bristol. The building currently houses the University of Bristol's Faculty of Science offices, Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for Health Research and the Cabot Institute.
The house was built for Thomas Tyndall KCB, in the 18th century, on the site of bastions which were fought over during the English Civil War and demolished in 1655. The Baroque, Palladian and Rococo styles of architecture are because of the work of three different architects: James Bridges, Thomas Paty, John Wallis. The garden was laid out by Humphry Repton around 1800.
The design of the mid-eighteenth-century house by James Bridges, for Thomas Tyndall KCB, was a compromise between the separate designs of architects Thomas Paty, John Wallis and himself. This led to different classical styles: Baroque, Palladian and Rococo, for three of the facades of the house. It was built between 1758 and 1761, by Thomas Paty with plasterwork by Thomas Stocking.
A later Colonel Thomas Tyndall employed Humphry Repton from 1799 to landscape the gardens which form a small part of Tyndall's Park, which extended to Whiteladies Road in the west, Park Row in the south and Cotham Hill to the north. Over the years large parts of the park were sold for housing development, as the site for the Bristol Grammar School, purchased in 1877, and only a small part of the original area remains, as Royal Fort Gardens. The siting of drives in the Royal Fort park is still reflected in street plans today.
The current stone gatehouse, built in the Victorian era and known as the Royal Fort Lodge, stands at the entrance to the driveway leading to Royal Fort House. It currently houses the University of Bristol security services.
The house has been designated by Historic England as a grade I listed building.

Elegantly dressed for a walk back in time, in combination with the garden and the castle, it shows a bit what life in reality was like in those days. Fairly complex clothing for every day, all the more so because it was actually not possible to wear non-formal loose clothing.

Vaux-le-Vicomte (Est.1658) - a baroque French château on a 33 hectares (100 acres) estate with formal gardens along a three-kilometer axis. Built between 1658 to 1661 as a symbol of power and influence and intended to reflect the grandeur of Nicolas Fouquet, Marquis de Belle Île, Viscount of Melun and Vaux, the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV.
The château was an influential work of architecture in mid-17th-century Europe. The architect Louis Le Vau, the landscape architect André le Nôtre, and the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun worked together on this large-scale project. This marked the beginning of the "Louis XIV style" combining architecture, interior design and landscape design. Their next following project was to build Versailles.

Menton The fishermen of yesteryear probably checked the time to return to port in the reading on the large wall sundial St. Michael Basilica. It was by chance, on the occasion of the facade renovation work, the team working under the direction of Jean-Claude Yarmola, chief architect of historical monuments, discovered traces of this sundial on the south facade from the church. It is exceptional in its size: about 50 m2.
Its size unusual seems to have for an hour remote reading. In fact, it was visible only from the sea. Today rehabilitated, visit the Bastion from the esplanade. Provided you understand the instructions! For despite the explanations provided by the experts, Maurice Marin, doctor engineer at the Nice Observatory, and Bertrand Scholar, departmental architect Heritage, the "italic" Reading this dial that finds its distant origins in Hebrew and Chinese peoples, is not accessible to the layman!
He consoled his ignorance thinking that Goethe himself complained of the difficulty in his "Italian Journey," in 1789! So much so that MM. Sailor and scholar who reconstructed the route of the dial "italic" deputy have him "astronomical" classic dial, reading much easier!

June 25, 2023 - San Nicolás de Bilbao (San Nikolas Eliza) "The church of San Nicolás de Bari enjoys a privileged location in the centre of Bilbao, a short distance from Plaza Nueva and Teatro Arriaga and facing the Areatza park. This lovely church was designed by the Basque architect Ignacio Ibero, and was built between 1743 and 1756.
However, its history dates back to a time when the El Arenal de Bilbao promenade was no more than a stretch of sand on the edge of the Nervión estuary, which was subject to regular flooding. This area later became a fishing quarter, and it was the fishermen who, in medieval times, built a hermitage there to honour Saint Nicolás de Bari, the patron saint of seafarers. As the population increased, this tiny hermitage was enlarged until it became a parish church. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by flooding in 1553.
The church of San Nicolás has a Greek cross floor plan set within a square. Considering that Ignacio Ibero had been tasked with continuing Carlo Fontana’s project for the famous sanctuary of Loyola, it seems logical that the Roman architect’s design would influence Ibero’s decision to use a central floor plan in his design for the Bilbao church. These kinds of floor plans always create small dead spaces in the remaining corners, which, in the church of San Nicolás, contain the chapels and the sacristy.
The church’s façade, constructed like the rest of the building from hewn Ganguren stone, reflects a Baroque style remarkable for its austere character in comparison with the Roman Jesuit churches of the Gesù and San Ignacio. This simplicity is evident in its windows and in the fine pilasters and cornices that cover the frontage, directing attention towards the focal point, the main entrance, above which a tympanum frames two lions rampant with the shield of Bilbao between. The cast bronze relief above the door is the work of the Barcelona sculptor Josep Llimona, and is the result of a renovation of the main entrance at the end of the nineteenth century.
The ruggedness of the lower part of the building gives way to a lightness in the upper part of the façade, where the church’s two robust towers are capped with crosses. The breathtaking interior cupola appears from outside the building as an octagonal prism, although its presence is somewhat obscured by the belfry that surmounts the façade."
