Barn Swallow The barn swallow's long, forked tail gives it that typical swallow look. Originally it built its nest on rocks or in caves, now it chooses farmyards with their 24 hours insect buffet. Its back and head are shiny blue-black, its belly cream-colored. But the best way to recognize the barn swallow is without a doubt its red-brown chin, throat and forehead. Barn swallows build their nests in accessible barns, stables and sheds. If you leave its nests intact, the migratory bird is guaranteed to return next year.

Another from the recent Barn Owls - they only started to appear just before 10pm so it was pretty dark!

Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

Barn swallows like to return to the same structures for nesting in the spring -- in this case, a barn. This is a female; the male's tail has long white forked feathers. Almost opaque texture layer added.

Barn and shed on the Countryside

we saw an owl quartering over a field and watched it disappear,a few moments later it came over the hedgerow and straight down the field towards us,it went over our heads and straight into the farm yard,we didnt see it go into the barn window though, after a four and a half hour wait an owl appeared from the barn to hunt, but by this time is was dark,i have watched the owls a few times and would love to try a few night captures, but they dont seem to have a post or fence near on which they land, as they come straight out of the barn and over a cow filled farm yard into a vast area of open fields and the same on their return

There are many hydrangeas on this side of the park. In the background is the red Krall barn, which has been paralyzed for its final details for three years. It is a pity.

Thank you very much for your visit and taking the time to comment! Really appreciated!

One of two beautiful barns on a former farm that is now part of a housing development. I believe the barns are now used for community centers for the residents in this development.

Painterly rendering of a nice old barn on the edge of Lakeville, MN next to the interstate hwy. Not an active farm but the barn has been kept up nicely.

Amazing detail of a really old barn door in the medieval town of Durnstein in Austria. The attention to grain pattern that the builder used is absolutely beautiful. Not many like this.

This barn is in Smoot, Star Valley, Wyoming. They didn't have as much snow as we did here in the Bear Lake Valley, but it was enough to cause some serious damage.

I am sitting in a wheelbarrow taking a short break before a hard day's work on the farm when I notice my puppy Sammy perched on a pile of kibble bags. Sammy seems restless and keeps shifting his weight, looking up at me with pleading eyes. Sensing my furry friend's dilemma, I offer my lap as a landing spot and reach out my hand to help him up. "Come on, boy," I coax, patting my knees. "You can do it." :o)

I'm not sure what that is at the owl's feet, but I think it's a rodent of some sort. No amount of zooming and moving Lightroom sliders around cleared it up enough to be sure.
