Somewhere along the Lighthouse Loop trail one of the many views you get overlooking the Broken Group Islands.
West Coast Adventure on the packet freighter M. V. Frances Barkley, Port Alberni to Bamfield, British Columbia, and back. The ship brings supplies and mail to communities on Barkley Sound and joining inlets. As we thread our way down British Columbia's Barkley Sound, we come to the Uchucklesit Inlet on the right. The inlet leads to the unincorporated community of Kildona. In 1903 a fish cannery was built there by the Alberni Packing Co. The cannery was the first fish cannery on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Today there isn't much left except for pilings sticking out of the water and a few holiday homes. As we travelled through the Sound, numerous bears, seals, sea lions, and humpback whales were seen. The natural beauty all around us made the journey unforgettable.

Tawny frogmouth (Podargus strigoides), "Barkley" - serves as an Animal Ambassador for the San Diego Zoo. Conservation status: least concern.
The mountains of Vancouver Island stand out across Barkley Sound from Bamfield, British Columbia, Canada. Fog is common from June to October.

The M/V FRANCES BARKLEY returns to port after working the coastal waterways on Vancouver Island.
The BARKLEY is a 200-passenger and cargo vessel based in Port Alberni that serves the communities of Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands on the west coast of Vancouver island BC. Ports of call include Bamfield, Ucluelet, Kildonan, and Sechart.
This passenger, mail and freight service has been a part of the West Coast for over 60 years. The FRANCES BARKLEY has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere rather reminiscent of yesteryear.
Peanut Butter Barkley. Barkley will be turning 9 years old (72 ish for me and you) on July 3rd. As is our tradition, Barkley gets his favorite food on his Bday: Peanut Butter. And considering his Sister, Grace, will be out of town on his actual Birthday, we are celebrating early this year.
Barkley is a Boxador. Part Boxer and part Labrador. He is super smart, loving, and all play. For his age he really hasn't slowed down. Barkley is a Omega who is always about playing and being funny; and has always gotten along with other dogs - even the "don't play well with other" canines. I am not sure if Grace and Kellen could have a better pooch.
Lovely day exploring the waters around the Broken Group Islands off the West Coast of Van Isl. ☀️

Barkley is quite secure in his manhood (doghood). And other than requests for food, play, affection, and people to love on, he asks for very little. He really is low maintanence.
A few weeks back I posted a close-up picture of him being delightfully tortured by a mouthful of peanut butter. The humor in the photo was not lost on him and he, too, laughed.
But in recent days he has been polite in requesting an action photo of him be posted. He wants the Flickr-Universe to know that he is a multidimensional Lab-Boxer mix with more than a sense of humor; he possesses athleticism, adventure, and bravery.
Barkley, you give so much to this family, the least I can do is honor your wish.
Donna: "I had such an awful day at school. As soon as my English class started, I realized I had left my homework in my bedroom. Then, in my Algebra class, when the teacher called on me, my answers were wrong. I was so relieved when the school day was over and I could come back home. But when I was getting off the bus, I tripped and fell on the last step so the driver had to get off the bus to see if I was okay. I could see kids inside looking out the window at me. I just felt like crying--not from being hurt but from embarrassment."
"Walking home, I was so miserable. Yet, when I opened the door, there was Barkley, wagging his tale and looking so happy that everything I had been sad about seemed so silly that I had to laugh. I kissed him on his head. He always makes things better. I bet most people feel that way about their pets--that's why they become part of 'the fabric of our lives,' to borrow the words of a jingle."
The dog loves the water. Took a while but we got there in the end. Wish I'd had me proper snapper with me but the Sony Xperia did an ok job I think.
Barkley, my sister's 12 year old labradoodle and super good boy.

After the release of the Barkley Island Government official in exchange for a satellite phone, the task force continued to negotiate the release of the remaining two Foreign Service Officers who are being held captive by the local gang. However after several weeks have passed, negotiations have stalled.
Fearing for the safety of the hostages, the Cabinet Incident Response Group authorized a rescue mission.
Under the cover of darkness, the rescue force performed a hard duck helocast insertion from a Chinook helicopter and stealthy swam towards the camp. The rescue force silently infiltrated the camp and successfully rescued the hostages.
The end.
