Whilst walking around Sheffield Park National Trust property my eye was drawn to the strange bark on this tree.

It certainly looked very ancient and had many branches removed but was obviously still alive from the foliage at the top.

I'm not sure what the tree is but Google suggested it was a 'Shagbark Hickory(Carya ovata)' known for its unique bark that peels away in long, vertical strips, giving it a shaggy appearance.

Bark has always been something that I like taking photos of. Today I took a little walk and found this piece of art on a tree. So this is my contribution to this weeks Macro Mondays.

Creative edit of tree bark. Through my eyes and lens a landscape scene with fields of gold.

I had never seen this ghost like webbing before, but I found it strangely beautiful. A search revealed that it is made by Bark Lice (common name) and serve as protection from the elements for their colonies. They do not harm the trees and are not even really lice, but beneficial insects.

If you zoom in, you can actually see the tiny insect colony inside the webbing!!

I'm not sure what this is about. It appears to have been created fairly recently with various architectural relics.
