On February 27, 1994, a Cypriot ship loaded with 6,080 tons of rice from Bangkok, the Weisshorn, was going to enter the Guadalquivir river bound for the port of Seville. At the height of Chipiona, due to low tide , the ship ran aground on the continental shelf, causing leaks. The rice swelled with seawater to the point of denting the metal doors that kept it. The ship ended up splitting in two and the crew fled the ship towards the coast of Chipiona. It is said that the ship did not run aground by accident, but rather that it was the Captain who brought it close to the coast on purpose, due to a debt with the owner. Another more official version suggests that the ship was anchored on the day of the events off the coast of Sanlúcar waiting to enter the river, on that day there was a strong storm that broke the anchor chain, and the ship it was dragged by the wind and the waves to a shallow area known as "Bajo Picacho", where it ran aground. The residents of Sanlúcar and Chipiona suffered for more than a month from an unbearable odor caused by its putrefaction. This boat can be seen from Chipiona, Sanlúcar de Barrameda and the south coast of Almonte and is known by the locals as the “Barco del arroz”.

El Vasa (conocido también como Wasa,1 Wasan o Wasen) fue un navío de guerra sueco construido por órdenes del rey Gustavo II Adolfo de Suecia, de la casa de Vasa, entre 1626 y 1628. El Vasa naufragó en su viaje inaugural, el domingo 10 de agosto de 1628, tras recorrer poco más de un kilómetro en el puerto de Estocolmo por inestabilidad. El buque fue rescatado el 24 de abril de 1961 y tras su reconversión en barco museo, se puede visitar en el museo homónimo en la isla de Djurgården en Estocolmo.
